Somebody's clever grandad removed the handle from the big wheel, bolted a pulley onto the side, and made themselves a motorized post drill. I've never seen that before.

I plucked a Craftsman Mowhawk off C/L this afternoon to add to the fold, a 103.0303. I'd only seen pictures of them until now so it's nice to finally get a good look at one. This one has the third pulley set up for better speed reduction that appears to be factory. I'm pretty sure that's all original paint too and not a mark on the table so I won't need to do much to get it working right. The old long C motor even spins right up. A couple pics. Ed.

Saw that! Good score Ed!

Thanks Jock, I was a little late on this one and at least two guys looked at it before I did but passed because they couldn't get the belt cover to hinge up and the center pulley had a bearing out. Got to lower the spindle to open the cover. Nice guy had it, said his grandfather had a machine shop near Sacramento and worked the gold mines. He had bought it new. Ed.

Nice looking Craftsman floor model Vice. Looks like you put a lot of effort into it. Ed.

Vice I think if your lucky enough to have a tool like that it becomes a time machine each time you use it. For me I only have an old hammer with a banged up handle, but every time I reach for it I am teleported back.

Nice job on the restore. Love the vise.

I think its cool and its definitely old. This is a 1960s (according to my boss) select equipment radial arm drill press. It came with the shop when he bought it in the 80s. Im not sure on the specifics but its got so grunt to it. dont mind the mess, its in the old section of the shop by the saw and material racks

Debating wether to keep 2 drill presses or not. It is nice having one for metal and an oil free press to drill wood.

Boy Howdy, you can survive with two drill presses? Quick count I think I have five and in total some 17 spindles that will drill a hole. Two is just a start me thinks, but those two look like a real good start.

no neat sig line

I have a 3rd as well. It’s a Duro mfg drill press. It’s in the middle of a slow restoration which has been put on the back burner.
the other 2 are working presses.

Dude that's awesome! I like the oil cups on the bearings. You should post some more pics

It's a 21" Milwaukee, can't find anything about it really, only numbers I found are a "99" on the base stamped into it, either a date or a part number, nothing on the internet webs. weights 600-700 LBS and stands just under 7 feet tall, perfect for my small shop.

I redid the table. that was the big repair. It was a lunar landing pad, really bad so I machined it flat, removing about and 1/8" leaving most of the holes etc but making the surface true and bolted a 1/4" plate to it and machined the slots before machining the new surface true. Turned out awesome I think. Definitely recommend this repair to a table that is a total disaster! I put a nice old Holtzer Cabot induction motor on there. This machine has never been converted before I got it, I have the loose tight shifter and pulleys. But it is running nicely, drilling 1" holes!

Great job! Was wondering about the table, would try it on mine but I don't have a lathe that would swing it. It's 21" royersford excelsior. It's a camel back, but newer than yours, I'm guessing 1920". It came already rigged with an electric motor.

Attached pic is same model as mine, but not my actual press.9f3b5d3e77ee5f4a11cfa46d3143f5f9.jpg

Nice restore! Makes me want to work on mine. Same model as yours. here's a pic of it when i purchased it. It came with all the parts except for the crank handle. Even has a period correct switch and motor although the pic doesn't show them. And i actually found the original crank for it a year ago on eBay lol.

Nice drill press, Glad there is some Upright drills re-emerging in this thread. I have a delta dp220 and an old school craftsman but there is something special about the upright drill. I like watching the thing work :)

Here's my Delta DP600 #3. (yes I have a soft spot for these wonderful machines). I saw it on CL and it looked like a diamond in the rough and priced pretty cheap. It was filthy, had surface rust but 99% complete. The only missing part was one spoke of the handle. I took it apart to haul it so don't have any "before" pictures but here's "after".

The motor is a very modern Dayton 1 HP with style K frame?? It fits the Delta motor mount's top two holes. The table had a minor arch of shame. (mainly a few small shallow divots easily filled with JB Weld).

The quill is a JT33 male taper. Most of them seem to have Morse #2 sockets.

Many thanks to GJ member Jason for helping me with a handle spoke and a nice restorable nameplate!

This one has the art deco cast iron belt guard. I thought I read on OWWM that Delta couldn't supply the full belt cover for a year or two so substituted this style of belt guard in the mid 1940's

I might VFD it if I can find an affordable 1HP 3 phase motor.

Now and how it was with my other old drill.

Quite literally a barn find. I moved two horses to get this to my car. So far only knocked the dust off. Don't know a year and never heard of Rockwell before yesterday. I have been looking for a nice older drill press for several months. Seems to be just surface rust. Cast parts look brand new. Not one stray hole in the table. Someone took care of this.

Welcome to the forum. You must be new to vintage tools as that name is about as ubiquitous to power tools as Ford is to cars. What a great tool to start out with. :)

Yes new to older power tools. Always leaned towards newer things there. I'm happy it works. Wouldn't mind getting it back to original condition though. The switch just seems.....wrong. Must be a replacement.

I think it is wired for two speeds. I had literally five minutes with it before I had to take off for work so I'm not even sure. Any luck finding a manufacture date on a 15-241? serial # 82545 Rockwell manufacturing company of Canada, limited Guelph, Ontario
