O.V.B. (our very best). Hibbard, Spencer and Bartlett's premium hand tool line.
The brass and rosewood putty knife is the finest I've ever seen.

This logo is still a mystery but it is really cool looking! There are no other markings on the wrench, and it came in a lot, so I have no other context.

That logo caught my eye when you posted it in GS thread. The X reminded me at first of the Western ammunition logo, but wider.
The symbol behind the X is a cross potent

used in heraldry and a significant element in various emblems, including the Jerusalem Cross. I suppose the X could be interpreted as a cross saltire or crux decussate, but the serifs nudge me toward seeing it as a letter. They are just too terminal to make it a cross pattee saltirewise.
I’m not finding that particular combination, though X is often used to represent Christ, chi being the first letter in the Greek spelling.
So maybe some organization for which evangelism had some significance?

Or, more prosaically, some weird early variant of the Triumph logo?

I spotted this screwdriver on eBay this morning. I’m thinking of making an offer.

Ohhh, the asterisk. Worth and Pexto as mfg was noted elsewhere. How is Red Diamond tied in???? Another Pexto brand for 3rd party marketing?

This made me start thinking of motorcycles and I instantly thought of the Excelsior logo. It’s almost the exact same design.

I think you have it! A little more research, but that sure looks right.

I checked around and saw a listing for the same wrench listed as an Excelsior. I put an inquiry into a FB group to see. Thanks again!

As a WWII GMTK tool collector, the putty knife I am usually on the look-out for is Red Devil brand with an Irvington, NJ address. They are so prevalent that I was a little surprised to even see another company in NJ making putty knives. I found them advertising in a 1940 trade mag, but so far, I have not found any records of wartime contracts. Be that as it may, I love the logo.

I am a little late responding, but I believe Red Diamond was a trademark (first use 1930, filed 1948, registered 1951) used by a NYC hardware store. I cannot at the moment recall the store name (NOT the English company Garrington’s).
So RTM’s ID of the OEM as PS&W, based on the asterix, makes sense. Currently on eBay, there is a nipper with a more refined daisy/asterix and a drawknife - both clearly PS&W - plus a NIB hand plane, all with the Red Diamond logo.
I have a brick layers hammer with the same logo, sans asterix F0B26A62-37F2-4AA6-863A-AC86B2F35427.jpeg

Well, I am even later responding and totally missed Part I of this discussion (probably the awesome Excelsior ID threw me...), but Masback, Inc., formerly Masback Hardware Company, owned that TM. It's strange that the JUSTIA site you used included everything but the name of the owner, but going straight to the source once you have a Serial or Registration Number - USPTO's TSDR page (TSDR.USPTO.gov) - never fails.

Did we find out what the "B" inside a pentagon is? Guy on the bay has a set of offset DBE wrenches listed as "Bonney".

I saw those. There is nothing about them that resembles Bonney DBEs of any era. I checked Alloy Artifacts for pentagon-B logo, but they don’t list one. I don’t know whose mark it is, though they have a Lectrolite look to me.

It wasn’t on the tool but I bought something from Thexton that has a cool logo on it. Little cartoon guy with a lion. Can’t find the original picture but this is what it looked like.

May not be a tool but I like the looks of Nokorode flux.
Wow! I grew up a few streets from the mill where this company was located. Was in operation until 1999 after the assets were purchased by RectorSeal in 1998.

Neat. I didn't realize they sold out. That explains why I haven't seen any on the shelves at my hardware store.

Thanks to GJ I now know this is a cobblers hammer. Shape is very similar to German ones offered on ebay. Nice blacksmith punch.
