I was surprised that Cornwell was made in Ohio. I was coming back from the Canfield Swap Meet and had to stop and get gas. I left the Summit store, and had to drive into Mogadore to get gas and passed the Cornwell factory. If it had been a weekday, I would have stopped in and asked for a tour.

Merbie....as far as I know, and what I watched on "How it's Made" one evening, all Cornwell tools are made in the US.

NOT TRUE!! Cornwell only manufactures some of their hardline in the US. If you were to pick up a Cornwell price sheet, only those items printed in bold print are actually made by Cornwell in the USA. Each year the amount of bold print decreases.

For example: Screwdrivers: black/blue handled ones Taiwan made, Orange or blue handled ones made in Germany. Fine tooth ratcheting wrenches made in Taiwan. All torx, hex, bit drivers are Taiwan made. Most of their pliers are Asian made. those that are US made are Channellock rebadges. Current tool boxes are hencho in Mexico at the Waterloo plant.

What are you left with that's US made? 30 tooth ratchets, sockets, extensions, and wrenches. Not that much when you look at their whole catalog.:wtf:

Some of my nicest tool dealers over the years have been Cornwell Dealers but, their line isn't all US made. There are lots of rebadges that can had for less from the original manufacturer. I have several of their tools but, don't think everything they sell is US made.

Our Cornwell guy is a really great guy to deal with, but I'm less than impressed with the quality of a lot of the imported tools, and the prices aren't that great.

Plus I'm also very worried about being left high and dry when our dealer gets out of the business or I move to a different shop in a few years. Same goes for the Matco guy, he's also great but I have the same concerns.

those are very real problems that I've experienced from using truck brands. I have a 60 inch wide Kennedy made Cornwell branded top, bottom, and end cab set up that I can't get parts for because Cornwell switched suppliers. It has served me well for 12 years but, if I have a problem, I'm sol. One of my all time favorite ratchets was a MAC round head. Mac quit making and supporting them more than a few years ago. :(

It's one thing for an individual tool to be orphaned but when your very pricey box is orphaned...hell then you start to wonder what did you spend that money for? I'd rather buy a $3k box from Strictly Toolboxes and take my chances on no replacement parts rather than pay several more thousand for a Cornwell box and then be SOL.

One of the things I do like about Snap On is they have fairly good support for the boxes and tools for the most part. Just wish we had a Snap On dealer.

Cornwell also makes their own punches, chisels and prybars beside one Mayhew rebadge. I have a couple of their larger prybars and they are tough sobs.

I'll just bump this up. :)

Picked up a couple rails full of misc. non Cornwell sockets a few weeks ago but it had two Conwell sockets hidden in there.

I';m am not a Cornwell user at all and do not have a truck rep., so if anyone back here wants two Cornwell sockets PM me. Cost? $1 for teh padded envelope and whatever price of shipping is which should be under $3. Which is really 2 free sockets plus shipping and handling.

Both are 3/8" drive
7mm deep six point TN-2207-L
List price $15.40

11/16" deep six point T-2222-L
List price $19.20

So for under $4 (really free, but I;m not paying to give away tools -duh) . you get almost $35 worth of Cornwell love and say you own Cornwell tools.
Wanna test quality and finsih first hand if you don't own any-nows your chance :)

No interest means the sockets go to the "Island of Misfit Tools" (gratuitious Rudolf teh RNR ref. ) which is really an old plastic kitty litter bucket on teh shelf with a variety of other unloved sockets in my life.

LMK.

There are also some Knipex rebrands mixed in as well. But those are obvious. They will say Made in Germany. And look different than anything else. I have a few of the CCL Channellock rebrands and they are nice. I stopped buying them when I discovered I could buy them for much less under the Channellock name.

So there's the general purpose set which has the orange handles? And the deluxe with the blue handles and I should get the orange ones?

Only a couple inherited and pawn shop wrenches, extensions, and sockets here. I like the look and feel of cornwell though. Kinda reminds me of some mac stuff...

What's the part number? This is the USA made set. http://www.cornwelltools.com/webcat/products.php?product=ZZCCL4S-%2d-4-Piece-Plier-Set
http://www.cornwelltools.com/webcat/products.php?product=KXC2000-%2d-3-Piece-Cobra-Plier-Set
This is the Knipex made set. The rest are Taiwan made by a company called professional tool products. They also make the black and blue square handle screwdrivers and a lot of the air tools. I do like the fact that Cornwell does price the imported tools at a lower price than the USA made stuff. The tools made by PTP are actually really good quality for the money. I owned a set of of the Taiwan made drivers and they were actually very good quality. I gave the 8pc set to a friends son who was starting out in the auto body biz.

Our Cornwell guy has been my number one go to tool guy for about 3 months now. Snap on barely comes in anymore and Matco guy is just plain weird and pushy. A new guy that just started was needing some pliers and likes the cornwell ones. The blue handles ones which looked decent.

Go for the blue handle set. The grips on the imported orange handle ones feel cheap and feel like they will pull off. The Orange import handle pliers are China made and the blue are Taiwan. The blue feel like they are better quality. No experience using them just judging by the way they feel. Do they sell the USA made pliers across the pond?

Those blue socket trays are pretty cheap too. $9 - $12. Every time I buy a socket set from my cornwell guy I have him order me the tray. They used to sell their sockets with those trays but now you have to order them.

Nothing new but my next purchases are going to be either 1/2" chrome sockets in metric or 1/4" chrome sockets metric. I've been taking home my cheap sockets and buying Cornwell. My Cornwell dealer is the only tool guy that's actually reliable.
