I was thinking of doing the exact same thing with my powersports / small engine tool box.

How waterproof do you think the Milwaukee box is? I'd like to have something a little more resistant to water than my current proto handbox.

I've been thinking about one of these for my Makita 18V LXT tools but not sure all of them would fit in one. Right now I'm at 2 drills, an impact driver, an impact wrench, recip saw, circ saw, flashlight, charger, 3 batteries, and all of the accessories that go along with them. Pics above make it seem like I would need two boxes which would be a bigger PITA than the wheeled duffle bag the tools came with.

Not Milwaukee, but same idea. I drag this with me everyday. I keep all my 20v stuff in it. I have a bag for hand tools.

They are pretty durable....I did an abuse test on one....

My only complaint really is the fact that when you drop it, the latches pop open & all your stuff WILL fall out if you dont have a carabiner or something holding the lid shut.

Rocket, a bunch of random comments/questions

how do those SK drivers feel compared to the Wiha insulated ones? I have that same set and like them a lot.

How do you like that Milwaukee 11 in 1 driver?

How often do you use that grout attachment for the sawzall and how well does it work?

Is it good enough to have it instead of an oscillating tool?

What cans are those?

just fyi, in case anyone is interested - when i click his link to the box, the price displays $29, and then immediately changes to $39 when it adjusts to my store.. i changed "my store" to a florida location, and the price went back to $29.. you can get it to ship to home for free, but your order needs to be $45 or more...

awesome box.. - so glad you made this thread.. nobody would honor the out of state sale - but picked up a box, and someone had put 2 top trays in it, so that was worth the extra 10 bucks i suppose..

the promo light fits almost perfect in the lid next to the charger, i placed a small bungee to hold it in place. - and YES you can fit the sawzall and 6.5 fuel circular saw in the same box if you go without the tray..
i have the hammer drill / impact driver combo, sawzall, promo light, dual charger, and four 4.0 m18 batteries - AND the m12 drill / impact combo, three 3.0 batteries - ratchet , m18 power source, 2 tapes. andn like i said - i can get the 6.5 fuel saw in there also w/o the tray..

the box closes perfect like that - and all i removed was the tray.. and to be completely honest - i can still fit the stuff i have in the tray, in the box easily if i wanted to.. im going to keep the saw in a bag by itself though (i think)..

Thats great! Thats just about all of the M18 stuff Ive amassed during this "promo that should have saved me money but instead cost me a ton"

I managed to fit my M12 stuff into one of the small Ridgid boxes (I know, I still need to get pics!) but was looking at the big Milwaukee box for the M18 stuff. Looks like its pretty doable.....sure looks a lot more organized than having the tools wound together in a canvas bag.

As my Milwaukke power tool collection is growing to 4, a big plastic job box looks nice. It is good because it keeps it all clean and waterproof.

I've been waiting for a thread like this... I have one of the job box and one of the smaller cube/bucket style and have been trying to find layout ideas online and here we are...

Thanks for your infos. I have the spyder scraper thing and that Kobalt multi-function-thingy kit that has brushes and stuff but I had not tried one of those guys.

I have the Wiha 1000v kit and I love them. I also have that Milwaukee 11 in 1, I haven't really been ever to really 'love' it but there isn't anything really wrong with it. I wonder has yours always been sloppy like that or did it get old and start doing that? Either way they only came out what a year or two ago? That thing can't possibly be really 'old' enough to give it any excuse.

Are those cans comfy?

KC, that stick light is really freaking awesome. And it's a common thread too (I forget what) so a bolt and one of those ring magnets makes a cheap removable hanger for it.

Rocket,

I ended up picking up the 2654 impact wrench today at HD.

Been eyeballing impact sockets - would you recommend that Sunex set you've got up in the first set of pics? Like the case/idea that it will fit in a work box - quality stuff? Seems right for the price - seen it mentioned around here quite a few times. Thanks!

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. I use it almost exclusively when working in 3/8".

Ordered it through Amazon - thanks for the rec. Hoping to have good luck with them. Price seemed to good to be true (don't know if this is reg. price or not - but seemed quite reasonable when comparing to similar sets) - $75 w/ prime shipping for the Sunex 3342 set.

The Tampa Fl stores have them.

That's the set. If you end up hating it lmk. I need another set for another tool kit eventually, lol. No, you'll love them. You may also need something like this too: http://store.harryepstein.com/cp/38drattach/SK45674.html

Haha, good stuff.

The set comes with a 3" ext. Amazon has the Sunex impact 5, 10 and 15" extensions for probably $25ish altogether. Might grab those. Thanks!

is it that one size is red and another size is black? I haven't seen any black ones up until now.

Saw these Monday and I may end up getting one this weekend. My PC tools are in three bags right now and this box looks big enough to hold most of them (18v drill, impact driver, circular and reciprocating saws, light, 12v drill and driver). That will free up an 18" bag for nails and screws as well as a bag for bits and blades.

If it holds up well carrying the gray stuff, it will probably see some red cordless tools in the next few years.

I did this for a while, my box got too heavy and I split it up. There's 12 tools in there total.

2014-12-02.jpg

I didn't officially weigh it, but I'd guess close to 60 lbs.

I swapped to all Festool/Tanos systainers. The modular, stackable concept hurts my brain a lot less, and doesn't force me to unpack the whole box to get to the tool at the bottom. They are damn expensive though, if I were to do it again, Sortimo/Bosch L-BOXXes all the way.

I wish Milwaukee would come out with their own version of LBoxx so I we could get trays molded for the tools!

I have the small Ridgid box holding all of my M12 stuff....I know someone asked for pics, Ill get to them soon. But with not too many tools (M12 hammer drill, impact driver, cordless drill and 4 or 5 battery packs) it got pretty heavy pretty quickly. I like the Ridgid boxes though, and they are easier to get than LBoxx-es so I might purchase a couple more. And a larger sized one for M18 stuff.

I did the Kaizen foam from Fastcap instead of doing the tray thing, holds 'em better and gives you options for accessories. $20 gets you a 2x4' sheet of 25mm foam, Rockler stocks them.

The Ridgid ones look pretty good, they just need more size options. They jump from 6" to 12", then to 18" (the Festool/Tanos boxes are available in 4, 6, 8, 12, and 16", the L-BOXXes are 4.5, 6, 10, and 15.25").

Never realized there were that many size choices in the other brands. Go figure, an 8" deep box would help with the M12 stuff (I wanted to stack the tools in different layers of foam to increase storage efficiency). But the 12 or 18" are probably fine for the M18 stuff.
