Nice.

Worker (911) and outdoor (910) variants, with suitably different blades and secondary functions.

I've never really been convinced however by multi tools containing loose hex 1/4" drive bits, due to the potential for losing them given the situations such a tool is likely to be used in.

Fans will love it I'm sure, and perhaps that's the main market they have in mind, for no particular use.

I am closer to the end than the beginning. Still have not had a use for a corkscrew on a EDC. Perhaps it is just a nod to time before me when corks were, apparently, everywhere.

I’ve been following that for a while and while it checks on overall quality, it would never end up in my pocket because it is too thick. I might buy one to play with, as I don’t own a Swiza yet and it’s one of the more interesting models.

For the corkscrew on an “EDC”, while screw caps are taking over the (wine) world, there are still plenty manufacturers that refuse to use anything but cork. Probably a dying thing as well, but we have had Picnics - or simply a glass of wine at our current ”project” only a couple of nights ago. I had chosen the SwissTool explicitly for the corkscrew as my travel tool. The corkscrew also makes the perfect home for the Victorinox mini-screwdriver. Is it necessary? No. Do I like to have it? Yes.

And that brings me back to this Swiza, it would never replace my SwissTool - and the Victorinox bit ratchet/bit holder holds way more bits, way more compact at that.

Still, the Swiza is a neat tool if it works for your application.

I’m not sure there is much “re invention” going on here!

The knife is a Swiza.

I’ve actually got one of those. It’s not a bad knife, but it’s not a great one either.


The blade grind is “o.k.” It’s better than many modern knives, but there is room for improvement. They have gone out of their way to make the tools different to a Victorinox, but without offering any real advantage, and I don’t think they are as rugged.

My main dislike is the grip material which is an impractical soft material that will have no life. Victorinox Cellidor is better in every respect, and alox far superior. In addition, the locking mechanism relies on the soft grip material flexing, which is generally torn / missing on any knife which has seen much use.

The design of the thing has obviously been optimised for mass production, but Victorinox do this much better, and the fit of the springs isn’t great.

With regard to the PB Swiss tool, they have obviously addressed the locking issue with a separate button, but all the other criticisms will I think remain valid. I absolutely detest pull out plastic bit holders. With any amount of use it’s obvious that they will fail to retain the bits, or break off entirely, so that just tells me that this hasn’t been thought through.

But increasingly that seems to be the case with PB Swiss. A company whose products I once considered leagues above the competition for quality (and still do to a large extent) but who worry me by incessantly pushing impractical soft handle tools, while allowing their quality (particularly chrome plating) to slide…!

Overall, you will be better off buying a Victorinox / Buck / whatever knife, together with a decent bit driver. Or just buy a Victorinox Spirit or Leatherman Bond and be done with it!

It’s simply not as good as it was.

I have some old, I think 70‘s/80’s, ball hex drivers.

In the same drawer I have some more modern (2010’s?) screwdrivers.

The screwdrivers have visible corrosion on the shafts, inside the handle. The older ball hex drivers do not. Same drawer, same handles, so something must be of poorer quality. Can only be the chrome? I suppose possibly the steel underneath, but that’s hardly a testament.

The ball hex drivers are fine. So are just about every other transparent handle driver I have - Facom, Vessel, Heyco, older Stanley, all fine!

Shame, because the tips are amazingly durable, and fit superbly. And historically, the tools were long lasting. I’ll try and take some pictures.

The head or founder of Swiza, the maker of those multitools used yo be the head of Wenger, the “other” Swiss Army Knife manufacturer, before Victorinox bought Wenger.
Most Wenger knives had a blade lock, and it was one of the things separating Wenger from Victorinox, were up until a couple decades ago, only the larger Victorinox knives had blade locks.
Wenger also designed a number of specialty multitools, including a sewing tool for Bernina, and a horologists tool.
I don’t love using flexible plastic for the push button, but it was likely the easier cleaner method for doing the push button.
As far as quality hoes, I have no experience with Swiza, but it took most other multitool manufacturers up until the early 2000s or later to figure out how to make blades with a quality and finish similar to Wenger and Victorinox, and this includes manufacturers in the USA, France, Germany, Japan, China, etc.
