Here's mine. Got the s-o at the swap meet for $5 ea but the seats were falling off. I melted the up and down air cylinder adjustment when I welded the seats back on. I put wheels under one.

The one in the back ground is near my welders. I had a square seat cushion that I bolted across 2 legs at the very bottom. That allows me to lay the stool on it's side and sit on the square pad when I'm welding or working on something low to the ground. Keeps me from kneeling on the hard floor.

Cool thread, I can contribute a few here.

First up is my vintage Admiral Chrome Corp chair:

I've also got this one, a more recent acquisition, from Matco:

Last but not least, I have this non-swivel chair, which originally belonged to my grandfather. Pretty old, going to guess at least the 70s. Built like a tank and the one I spend the most time in:

Here's my "shop" stool!
Stool.jpeg

My shop stool is a semi truck break drum with a 8x8" 3/8" plate welded to the top, to which I welded a length of 1-1/2" black pipe to, then welded a cap and 3/4" nut to, then welded 3/4" allthread to a 12" round 3/8" plate so I can adjust the height of the stool up about 16" above its lowest height of about 48".

Its heavy as hell, but never have to worry about tipping it, and being all steel and having adjustable height, its great for supporting steel when I'm fabricating, since I don't have a welding / fab table.

Not the most comfortable as built, but if I'm using it for longer than a couple a minutes at a time, I just throw a kneeling pad on top and its great!

My primary job is as an electrician, so my primary "work" stool is either an empty 1000' spool of 12-2 NMB or empty spool of MC which is really nice when making up receps during rough in.

This is mine it's probably from the 40s or 50s made by the singer sewing machine company. Given to me by my mil before she passed away. It was hers when she worked in a shoe factory her name is scratch under it.

I have a work stool. This massively over built 400LB rating Big Red from Torin. It was sold by Northern Tool but has now been discontinued.

Then I have 2 expensive office chairs I got from a guy who is in commercial office furniture to actually sit in. Yea they are kind of a puke green but new they were over $600 each! Steelcase TB117.
Heck even used they want $200+!

They are extremely tough chairs and are adjustable in height. Way better chairs than I need in the shop but for free they are great!

I've had this for probably close to 45 years. Aftermarket Harley buddy seat. The HD shop I was working at at the time had a swap meet to get rid of old stuff and this did not sell. My wife LOVES this thing in the garage.

Here are my two low mechanics stools. I got the green one at a surplus sale for IBM employees. They also had one with a single drawer version that was very low. I found the brown one at the curb on garbage day earlier this year.

I’ve been wanting to restore the green one for many years but haven’t gotten around to it.

I made the low rider for doing brakes. I used the side panels of two MAC G5 computers, and some awesome german casters.

I also used the yoga mat process on the medium stool. Couldn't believe how it came out with a lot of cleaning and wire brushing.

I have one of those HF caster stools with the pneumatic adjustment posts...
Sat down on it and it shot out from under me and it dumped my **** on the garage floor...
My wife forbids me from ever using it again....
I've been looking for one of those old, no casters, high school shop class stools...

I can finally add to this thread yet again. In addition to the ones I showed here, I've finally landed one of these bad boys. Been looking for a long time, as they've gotten ridiculously hard to find locally or even on eBay in decent shape:

carquest1.PNG carquest2.PNG

Story goes it came from a mechanic's shop and was part of the contents being sold off. Nearest the guy knows, it dates back to the 1980s sometime. Very heavy and good build quality vs. the newer stuff. Has the nice double layer vinyl on top, one clear and one with the logo underneath. I cleaned it up a bit and got some new feet for it off Amazon since the originals were missing, but otherwise all good and quite comfy. For $100, I cannot complain.

As luck would have it, I stumbled into one last stool. I only had room or need for one more, and this one came up at a price I could not turn down:

klein_stool.PNG

It's not exactly vintage, but it's still marked Made in USA by Adverstool™ and condition was as close to new as you're going to get in the secondary market. Build quality on these is far better than the import junk too.

Have one of the icon stools from harbor freight. So far it seems decent for the sale price I got it for. Need to get two more taller stools for the work benches next.
