I was tired of plastic oil-catch-drain-things that were too small and leaked so I built this.

oilcatch1.jpg

It'll hold a few gallons of whatever fluid I'm draining in to it. I have a plastic insert to thread into the elbow and some tubing that drops down to an empty container on the floor.

When it's done draining I kick it back under the bench.

I am going to buy and learn to use a mig welder just to make a drain pan just like this. You have inspired me sir!

where did you get the led set lights from for that light bar:thumbup:

I bought them from one of my majors who has an emergency lighting company. I got a GREAT deal on them. If I had to buy them retail, I would have gone another direction. They are a bit over $100 ea. retail. If you want to search them, they are Code 3 Three-Up Optix in clear steady burn. There are also two different lens styles. These are the "spot" type. The other is more of a flood pattern. A friend and I have bought out his entire inventory of them in case we want them for future projects like rock lights or in-bumper lighting. If he gets more at that much reduced price, I can let you know if you like.

It was a "brother" rate and I agreed to not give it out - so sorry, but no, we don't violate that trust in the fire service. His price for the general customer was still unbelievable. He just doesn't know if he will get any more for that price. He buys over productions, factory refurbs, etc. I'll let everyone know if more become available.

That kart reminded me of something that might be good to try, I worked with a guy who said as a kid he built karts with a car battery and starter for the motor. Said they would absolutely fly.

thats cool what are you gona do for batteries?

I'm using 3 - 12v 10Amp hour AGM batteries(might upgrade to some lipos to reduce footprint/weight) a 36v scooter controller, and 24v 350w scooter motor. my son currently has a kart that does about 20mph with that setup on his. This one is for my daughter and me haha

First project was a heavy duty table for the garage. I wanted something massive to weld on, beat on, assemble the kids toys, have some storage under it and have the ability to attach bench mounted tools via a trailer hitch set up. I went with a frame of 2x2 and 4x4 for the legs. The shelf is 12 gauge and the top is 1/2" plate. Total weight is knocking on 1,000 pounds. The top alone is 4'x6' and checks in at about 450 pounds.

Here is the story in pictures....

These go on large kenworth semi trucks for the oilfield. It gets a pto winch down inside of it. These are about medium duty of the ones I have built. I some made out of 4" sch 80 pipe to go on huge kenworths that arent even street legal to go to saudi arabia, they had a mount on each side for 44" sand tires.
Thanks and that makes sense. ;)

Heavy duty in an understatement. Nice job!

I built one similar years ago but not quite as deep as yours and I use the hell out of it. I can weld on it or beat on it all day long and it just takes it.

Whew, all kinds of images flashed by in my mind. I figured you had something in store to handle that sprocket. Nice project, I look forward to more pictures as you progress on the build.

With gardening season coming up, I remembered tracking a pile of dirt into my garage from the garden. I wanted to try & stop that s&!% from happening again this year. So this is what I came up with.

The catch can looks great, did you put anything inside to help separate the oil before it hits the breather filter?
