Whipped this up for my little pup. I have ice cubes just for her.
The tray can be a little bit of a pain being silicon, so I grabbed a small piece of 1/4' aluminum plate and 1/2" round bar, put a bit more than 90 bend in it drilled a hole and blasted it with the spool gun. Now my wife won't get mad at me for spilling water all over the place especially in the freezer :)

Installed a battery mounting plate on the front of my 6x4' TSC fuel trailer as I am switching from 125vdc to 12vdc fuel pumps.

Here you can see it's sized for a Group 24 battery holder and the G24 battery on the floor.

The 3/8" coupling nut is to cover up the 1/4"x20 bolt I welded to the underside of the plate for a grounding stud:

My 15 year old & I are currently working on converting an old 10'x10' shade structure my Dad had build for a horse pen, into a shade structure on skids that we can put a shooting bench under to have some fun hitting targets down range.

He's 1 year into his industrial welding training (it's a dual credit program with his highschool and a local college) and I have no formal training with welding or fab, but have spent a lot of time learning what I can from a wide range of sectors.. I'm especially proud of our saddle we cut in the collar of a 2 3/8 pipe for the 2 7/8's skid to fit it. I don't have any saddle templates and havn't done this since high school metal fab class.

In the next few days I'll roll it back over right side up and have him finish welding it up then start working on the roof.

upgraded my little fab table to have steel storage underneath. maybe some day my welders will go under there but not til the day I only have 4’-8’ sticks sitting in the corner.

finally figured out I was way too hard with the pressure knob on my Miller 175 which was causing the ‘rats nestin’ at the drive roller.

I might have to move this project over to the woodworking thread, but I got my frames back from the powder coater awhile back and have started working on the wood and fabric parts. The drawer boxes are made of pre-finished birch and melamine. The drawer fronts are baltic birch veneered in walnut (scrap I drug home from my old day gig). One if the units is for hiding a slightly 80's looking sub woofer. The front panel of that unit is covered with a vintage "Marshall" style speaker cloth. Still a lot of parts to make to complete this project, but I thought some might like seeing how the wood parts integrate with the steel frames.

Cut and welded up most of my stool project.

20250315_173924.jpg

Just need a few more things to arrive until I can finish it.

Made a new thread on it if y'all want to see the boring details.

Realized I not only forgot this thread exists, but also that I never did a follow-up.

@pancholasvegas, those people don't visit here so you are safe. If anyone here thinks you spent too much time fixing that chair, let them speak now or forever hold their peace.

Don Long did two of those chairs, one Shell and one Penzoil. Nobody thinks Don spends too much time on anything.
Don’s thread was actually the spark that had me hunting on down. I love how he did his, I’m just not that invested in Petrolina that it would fit my look, but his work was killer.

Thanks!

So this project is the casework for the living room of a property I'm renovating and eventually moving to. It runs the length of one wall and will house the stereo system and storage for albums, cd's, etc... and will also be a platform for a Mid century modern Malm fireplace. I pretty much wrapped up this project a few weeks ago with the exception of the drawer in the bottom of the stereo cabinet was an afterthought and I'm not sure I'm happy with the grain match to the below cabinet. Thinking about digging through the left over walnut to see if I can come up with a better grain match. There is also a Caesar Stone "raw concrete" top it will get when it's installed. It's designed to have a hidden 3" chase in the rear that all the cords and electrical will be hidden in. Didn't have room in my current shop to set it up the way it will be installed in the new crib, but here's some more pics of the mostly finished casework. Materials are powder coated 1" sq steel tube, walnut ply, prefinished birch ply drawers boxes, and melamine drawer bottoms. One of the modules is covered with a vintage Marshall style speaker cloth that a sub woofer will hide behind. In addition to the two drawers under the stereo cabinet for albums, there are also two big drawers under the Malm fireplace that use 40" drawer slides with 500lb, capacity for more albums. Can't wait to install this, but that's a ways off.

I don’t know if anyone remembers me posting about some apron conveyor pulleys I got in an auction, but I finally got round to making them into pole holders for my wife’s sun shade. She buried a bucket and concreted in a small pole, then these go over the top and finally the pole goes in. Not much chance these are going over - the holders alone weigh around 120-130lb.IMG_9574.jpegIMG_9575.jpegIMG_9579.jpegIMG_9581.jpegIMG_9582.jpegIMG_9583.jpegIMG_9588.jpegIMG_9589.jpeg

Finally got this tig thing figured out. Making some brackets to bolt to my deck posts to mount some tubing for a sun sail shade dealio.

Shame to paint over them.

Yeah, id keep an eye on that if you get any wind. Thats a lot of leverage there to possibly tip those poles.

Here's mine installed with the brackets posted above. They space the square tubing off the posts to clear the top cap. The square tubing unbolts from the brackets so i can take them down in the winter.

I have aluminum spacers slid down between the vinyl and 4x4 to take up the small gap to prevent the vinyl post from cracking.

Added 2 Harken cam cleats on the posts for easy tensioning and setup/take down. House side has eye lag screws into the wall studs just below the roof soffit.

Yes, i still need to paint the square tubing but its been too damn hot!

Now you can find out how strong the corner posts of the deck are.

4x4s that have blocking into the joists. Pretty sturdy.

The sail comes down quick for when storms roll through.
I really like the speed-cleat idea. Unfortunately, it wouldn't work here at the pub because feral children.

I'd also cap both end of the tubing as, around here, they'd be full of wasp nests inside of a week.

I have some snap in plastic caps I found online. Took a bit to find them for the thick wall tubing. Just haven't put them in yet. I'll probably throw them on this weekend

I was going to weld caps on but that sounded like too much work haha.

I've learned to buy some 1 1/2" strap and cut it on the chop saw. Saves lots of time, and time spent with the helm down isn't deducted from your lifetime--or did I get that backwards?

Rarely post here, forgetting this thread exists!

Start of last night's order beginning with a small test cut with some new font before cutting out the actual piece.

Few small beads and she's done so far.

20250803_115452.jpg

Need to grab some 3/16" for fulfilling another order I got today, as well as cutting the remaining parts for this stool.

While I'm glad that my pricing is pretty good compared to the East Coast, it still hurts whenever I replenish my supply :ROFLMAO:

Only change is that 16 gauge went up by a few bucks compared to early this year.

20250804_095157.jpg

The 16 gauge I just like to have on hand, plus a friend that hooks me up with wood made a request for a Doberman sign.

The 3/16" are for truck parts, as well as the remaining parts for the above stool.

20250804_133639.jpg

Tomorrow I'll weld the small round tube to the ends of the legs, followed by welding the legs to the center support.

My ash hardwood for the stool cushion and backrest cushion should arrive by the end of the week.

I use this stool bottom as a template for the holes being drilled into the wood before I weld the nut and ACME leadscrew to it.

Still waiting for my wood and leather swatches so I cut some parts today, more out of curiousity than anything.

20250806_112730.jpg

Taken right out of Vyper's playbook mainly because I'm too poor to buy a tube roller.

My measurements seem to be on point which is good, with my only concern being the thickness of the material when stacked.

My current stool uses a thick washer which I'll avoid using with this new stool, but still curious to see once the new casters arrive.

Man the price of metal is crazy now. I'm so glad I bought a bunch of DOM tube, angle square and flat bar years back and have been slowly using it instead of having to buy new material all the time. At first I was cursing myself for having to deal with storing all that material, but now I'm not looking forward to having to buy new material again... it's gonna hurt. might have to take out a loan next time I buy a whole bunch :cautious:

That’s going to be a damn nice looking stool !!

Yeah he's absolutely stoked!

Got him some leather samples from the shop I buy leather from - he's considering croc but also just sticking with plain black

It even has my initials on it LOL. You gonna paint it or clear coat it?

Totally his choice; I won't be the one painting it but I suggested going with a smooth paint if going with textured leather.

I did the opposite and went with textured paint for my smooth leather.

It would drive me nuts, I would constantly be stepping on it while rolling around.

Interesting. I'll try and see if that happens when the casters arrive but thanks for the feedback.

I only say "interesting" cause it sits low, and farther in than say, the footrest on my current stool. I roll around just fine and it would technically be in the way more.

Would you say it'd be better if they were angled to sit farther inward?
