Tonka my AVG is getting a threat warning from that site!

I use McAfee and I just clicked the link I posted (Tillet USA) to see if "Site Advisor" would balk & it did not. I would never advise another to disregard their protection scheme, but my software is OK going there.

toomanytoyzz it looks cool, I would like to see it when you have it completed.

Thanks:rocker:!! I'm hoping to have it done by the end of the summer. Gotta get back to restoring my '72 FJ40.

I see you are a Middletown, DE dweller. It's funny how the world wide web makes the world seem pretty small.

I never get to post stuff I work on in this thread because I don't get to weld often and when I do, it's not worthy. That said, I'm pleased with today's work so here you go.

My cheap older HF MIG welder is around 120 amp 110V and definitely not strong enough to weld solid to the 1/4" steel plate. However, seeing as the seams are 12" long, I think it'll hold the weight.

Cut the seat brackets for the DIY Recumbent I've been building for my wife.

Tac welded in place.

Test fit. I plan on powder coating the bracket so I left a bit of space for that and the spray paint on the top rail.

Dialed in the welder...

One side finished and wire brushed, no grinding.

I haven't figured out what Tweco gun to get for my Solar 175 amp 220V welder. I'm sure that would have done a much better job at making some penetration.

My wonderful wife bought me an awesome hammock for my birthday not realizing it didn't come with a stand. With some 1.75" x .120 and 1.5" x .120 tubing, a little bending, welding and painting I was soon lazing in the cool evening air.

WakonTonka: Thanks for the complement!! If necessary I may tie into a nearby sub-frame but for the time being the hitch is more than sufficient. Regardless, thanks for the advise too [/QUOTE]

Tie into the sub with some side braces and it will be fine

The axles have not been tested. We have seen a few 914 Porsche guys do something similar when swapping a Subi engine in their 914. We will see how they hold up. Luckily they are a pretty easy swap-out if they do break.

I love the subaru motors for buggies. Unfortunately, the driveshafts are kinda undersized and dont take very well to welding.

I broke 2 in less than a mile. I am far from a wonderful welder, but have done several custom driveshafts for front wheel drive vehicles. Never had trouble with any of the others, but they had larger diameter shafts and less power.

http://stupidrob.net/buggy/

P.S. this is my first post here. Hope I did it right

Had a driveshaft place make me a new one, but they heat treated them and stuff.

you could weld a small pipe to the back just larger than the light socket and silicone the socket to the pipe or use a set screw my 2cents

I would consider JB Weld for this bonding project. If you do use this 2 part epoxy, place a 2x4 or so over the tops of the sockets to keep them flat to the surface and prevent the wires from altering the position. Not too heavy or too much JB will ooze out. What does ooze out can be troweled into a nice radius with a suitable piece of plastic or popsicle stick. Tough stuff and you can paint over it no sweat.

Finished photos please!

Thanks guys !! I was thinking of incorporating the set screw, but I'd have to drill about 75 or so holes. Still doable, but I'd like to cut down on the fab time since it's not really going to be worth much in years to come since it's homemade. JB Weld might be the solution .

What is the matter with some of you guys? OK ZT is the head of the bunch.
This has been one of the most fun forum reads I an a long time. Alright I lied - EVER.
Clean shops, wicked welding carts and tables, and so much other stuff. Been reading for days.
Take it easy on the rest of us. You could always spread a little pile of "ends", used welding rods, piles of grinding dust or something to make us feel at least a little better.
Keep up the great "stuff" !!!

I was hired to design and build a cart for vintage wood/coal fired kitchen stove. All the guy had was four cast aluminum wheels with no holes. The frame is made from 1/4" thick 2" angle and only raises the stove 4". The stove is going to be used at the annual Pioneer Days.

Thanks for posting your design, I found a set of wheels and have been wanting a cart and may build one starting with your Idea. Including a picture of my 15" donks :rocker:

This is my welding table. $5 at a recycle store. I have a couple more if them I use for light stuff or setup. This one I can stand on. The others I wouldn't even try. But they are way more useful than you might think.

Glad to see I am not the only one that uses an old ironing board for a portable table. I found mine sitting by the curb on the way home one night. I don't know how old it is, but dang is it sturdy. Perfect height (for me at least) for standing mig work.

And I am glad to see that we have a mature group of folks here who will not have to flame a guy for using an ironing board (for anything). So many forums are that way and I will not spend a second of my time on them. BRAVO dudes!!

What night is garbage night again??

That will also work well if you need to cut metal with a torch or plasma cutter due to the expanded metal. Good call:rocker:!!

My wife uses a welding table to iron our clothes. Looks similar to mine but no paint on it. Or welding spatter. And she rides a Kawi Vulcan. Nope I don't have a problem using one of these. I see cowboys around here wearing pink shirts and I'll tell you for sure that it does not detract from THEIR manlihood. Either.
I agree with you WT

Heyah, I have an interview tomorrow, would you mind touching my shirt up on your welding table? :) I wouldn't have thought to use an ironing board in the garage. Last project I welded on sawhorses didn't go so well.....

IMG_0099.jpg

Trying to flip the piece to weld the bottom side, I lost my grip and it fell onto the sawhorse.

Couple of projects I've done.

This is an entry/sofa table I built. The square tube is Ducati shipping crate, the round is offal from Izzy's Custom Cages & some other projects. The wood is from a 100yr old rehab I managed.

rande_table_15-660x440.jpg

Blog post about it here.

Here's a little couch table, made to slide over the cushion so you can have your food, drink, laptop, whatever right next to you. It's Ducati crate material as well, powdercoated Bright Orange. The top is pretty well done, just got put on hold for paying jobs in the shop.

Bit of a build thread here.

This is a side table and bench for a client. The steel is all new, the wood is 2" thick oak barn beams from my parents farm. Yes, better pictures will be coming.

Your Pal, Gary

Holy Hell!!!!:eyecrazy:

What a monster you've created!! I wouldn't want to get my finger caught on any English wheel, but this goliath is on the top of the list. Awesome work:rocker:!! Please post some pics/vids of the beast in action.

You didn't throw away the Ducati and keep the crate did you?

So I know I am suppose to post my welding projects here... But thought I would ask for some ideas... On Craigslist i got a bunch of 4x4 sheet metal all different thickness... I got it real cheap and the guy delivered it so I was extremely happy to add to my increasing scrap pile for future projects... In the pile was 5 sheets of perforated sheet metal... First not sure how easy it will be to weld but all part of the learning process...

My question any ideas what to make with it? I was thinking maybe using it for the bottom shelf of my welding cart? Or maybe trying to make a pegboard system out it? Or....:dunno:

All suggestions welcome... Welding is fast becoming my favorite hobby can't wait for it to drop under 100 degrees here to get more time in the garage.

I made this chop saw stand yesterday. I got tired of not having a place for it while working and already had this piece of axle tube welded to a brake drum. Just added some bed frame and it was done. It is surprisingly stable, but a little too tall so I think I'll cut it down about 6".

The other stand was one of the leveling jacks from a 5th wheel. I also welded that to a brake drum. It has about 18" of up/down travel.

** sorry for the sideways pics, Windows 8 is kicking my ****

Here's a few more pics of the project. The letters posed more of a challenge than anticipated, but I think they turned out ok. I still have to finish the 4x4 letters since I cut them a tad too small. The light bulbs are bout a 1/2" too big if I were to box the letters in now. Not a bid deal, but I was pissed for about three seconds today:evil:. More to come .
