My first project after buying my first welder was a cooler rack for a Harley Davidson FLHTU. There was a thin board that went in the top, then a camp grill on top of that.

This was a project for a local day care. They use it for weaving hoses or ribbons through, climbing on, pretending it is a mountain to climb, etc.

Not happy with this heap; going to tear it apart and do something different. Was meant to carry two 6-gallon gas cans, tool box, cords, and a generator.

New workbench legs. Meant to be mobile, not rock solid. It also unscrews from the top and comes apart into 3 pieces so I can store it flat against a wall or reconfigure if necessary. Came out well so I'm going to weld up a few more sets of legs to make more tables soon.

Not welding, but I fabbed up this little screwdriver organizer out of 18 ga.

I'm a total newbie to welding, but have been getting advice on another forum, along with YouTube, and talking to my BIL who is a steam fitter by trade.

I started out with gas torch welding and brazing, and then graduated to stick welding. Eventually I'll get into MIG and TIG, but that's down the road a ways.

My first actual welding project was to build a rear brush screen for my newly purchased CAT D3B dozer. The first time I was in the woods, I backed up and nearly impaled myself on a small tree I'd already gone over....thanks, but no!

I didn't really do before and after shots, but that's probably overkill for this topic:

Tacked up the angle:

Added the cross braces, fit the expanded metal (9ga), painted it with POR-15, then a top coat of Magic implement paint:

Installed...just need to paint the bolts/washers:

Update on my pit cart welding project.

I painted it last weekend and it's almost done. I adding a banner to the side with our team logo, and car number, and that should wrap it up. Here's where it stands now:

Nothing really fancy.

When I built my house in 2005 I designed the cabinets in the great room to accommodate a specific Samsung DLP television. It fit perfectly in the opening. Fast forward eleven years later, the Samsung DLP needs to be replaced and televisions are much smaller for the given screen size. I was able to buy a Samsung LED the next size up to fit in the same opening. However, it did not fit as nice.

The new television in the old opening. I did not like seeing the silver stand.

The stand caused it to sit back four or so inches in the opening. This offered a gap that I did not like.

So, I fabricated a stand that would bolt to the back of the television using the same holes you would use for a wall mount. I had it powder coated in flat black to make it less visible.

Mounted to the back of the television.

It now fits in the opening without the offending gap. It's not as square as I would like it to be but most people will not notice it.

A view from the back.

All in all I'm very happy with the outcome.

I just finished up this mobile base for my DoAll. A lot of welding went into it that's for sure.
I still need to bolt it to the frame, and paint it or vise versa. The castors don't have locks but i'll probably put leveling feet on it anyway, that will kill two birds with one stone. Got the castors off craigslist in Ohio when I went over there for a machinist get together, or I would have bought some with locks.

I ended up not putting the gussets in the frame, I still can but it doesn't seem to be sagging at all. So I think it's pretty much done.

Getting ready for a new project ... a 5x10 trailer. First major project for me.:scared:

Picked up 30' of 3" channel for $95, for the periphery. Also got a good deal, I think, on a Dexter #3500 axle with springs and hubs for $50.

I'm thinking of using 2x2x3/16" angle for the stringers.

Tried my hand at some aluminum tig welding over the weekend.
Had to re-install a bung for an air trmp sensor in the Intercooler pipe.

Had a lot of trouble with the bung melting a lot quicker than the pipe even though it was a lot thicker.

Nice job! I like the "low profile" you built into it. I put casters on most things in my garage, the full swivel kind. Makes utilization of a small space much easier. Say if I'm not welding I take my two welders and horizontal band saw and stuff them in a corner, easy to do with the full swivel caster. And they come out just as easy.

This is the building of my houseboat, in the picture of the pontoons is my wife, son 12 and daughter 15. We did it as a family project with no outside help. I used about 400 lbs. of welding wire. The boat weighs in at 70,000 lbs.
