That's really cool. How did you form the branches? It is heating solid rod with a torch and hammer into shape? Make sure to post up the finished project.

We ran a longer bar of 1/2” steel through a tubing bender making slight bends & then cutting them off in random lengths. No heat required. Did the same with smaller diameter.

I used some 1/8" wall 2" dia tubing... cut it at 45 and tacked 2 together to make a corner. Split the whole thing in half so I could get 2 feet out of section I welded together. Traced out my template on each side of the original 45 cut/weld on the inside of the tubing and roughed it out with a cut off wheel. Welded the feet to the bottom of the frame legs and beat the outside flat with a BFH. Finished with a grinding when and then flapper disc... clear as mud?

They were a lot of work but I really wanted them on there!

any chance you can explain that with a video or series of pictures?? they look real cool

Had a need to scribe a large arc so I satisfied my primitive nature and made a tool. Nothing spectacular. Just a simple protractor. Quick and dirty and easy peezy lemon squeezy.

1/2" 16 ga. square tube
5/16" rod (5/16 key stock might work too)
1/4" bolts
I didn't have an extra scribe so I used a 9/32" transfer punch at one end

This wouldn't have cost me anything because I had all the materials on hand but I ordered two more carbide tipped scribes of the type at the left end of protractor because that one is the only one I have (cuz I never thought that I could possibly need two!).

Got the leaves made, hammered for texture & welded on friday. The rust spots are from cooling it down to put in my truck for the ride home. Not sure about the finish it will get.

Next week we make a sheet metal cut out using a plasma cutter. Mine will be a hotrod silhouette.

Built 4 of these davit arms for removing large heads from chiller bundles. The big head weighs 1800#.

Outer pipe is 5” sch. 120 and the inner pipe is 4” sch. 120. Notched the 4” to fit a 16”x45# beam that we cut down the center to make it a T beam. All welded on site with 7018.

3/4" Rebar, and strips of 20 gauge sheetmetal. Next ones

I used a 3/16" plate base, 16g sheet metal strips, 3/16" rod & 1/2" tubing. I built it a little heavy duty knowing it was going outside and will likely be moved around a lot over the years.

Yes, everything was made from 1/4” round. I ran it through my ring roller first to give it a tendency and then hand formed it to the spirals. The rings for the glasses I formed around a piece of solid and then welded up.

She was happy even with having to repaint the wall!

8 hours of welding. Esab migmaster 250. Never skipped a beat.

Komatsu 320 ? Esab eh ? I've never seen/used one before. What's your opinion of the machine overall ?
