I have to wonder.... if you claim to have 94 adjustables including "any and every brand", how do you reconcile that with the list of 108 different brands of US-made tools on this list:

now, of course, there's always the possibility that not all of those brands/manufacturers offered adjustable wrenches in their line-ups (I just discovered the other day Indestro listed no adjustables in their 1948 catalog, for example), but that notwithstanding, how can one confirm that he has one sample in every brand or by every manufacturer?

inquiring minds want to know. ;)

You didn't, of course, really think that list above was actually complete, did you?
Of course not. I find new brands I'd never heard of all the time perusing Ebay ads:

Miscommunication on my part. The point wasn't that I have one of every brand (obviously I don't and am fully aware of that), the point was that I'm not loyal to any certain brand, only that every brand I own is in fact made in the USA.

Simply, I have a motley assortment of adjustable wrenches (and brands likewise), granted they are all USA made.

just jazzin' you, man..... ;)

every time I think I have "completed" some set of something-or-other, I think about that list.

don't even think Twertsy's got a sample of everything on that list.

since I posted that one hour and thirteen minutes ago, I ran across another one I've never heard of before:

Snyder Corporation, Lexington, S.C.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/METRIC-COMB...568846?hash=item2367dfb28e:g:bdoAAOxyHIlTaAA4

(but that wrench set looks exactly like a Duro-Indestro set that's currently listed on Ebay, so I have to wonder if maybe those were stamped out in Chicago for Mr. Snyder in South Carolina.)

I don't think that "list" will ever be "complete". New names just keep comin' out of the woodwork! ;)

Digging this thread up, I picked up this Ampco 12" adjustable today at a flea market. I dont think ive ever seen one before, made of AlBr for non-sparking applications.

Edit: the sticker says apply a moderate amount of torque to fixed jaw only.

Aren't the majority of them made by Western Forge? :p

Maybe today, but not the originals. PROTO, Diamond, use to forge their own stuff. You could tell, they were different.

The "re-branded" stuff all looks the same these days....sad. Nobody striving for a higher standard.

Forgot the two little wrenches in my pocket.

I like the Sears brand wrenches because they actually seem to tighten up as you use them.

Some nice wrenches folks. Don't believe I've posted in this thread before so thought I'd lay out the assortment of 4" adjustables. Sort of just surprised myself when I realized how many I gathered. A few are hiding around my user boxes still.

I don't actively hunt for these but do grab them when they are cheap, so I suppose I collect them. :headscrat :) I'm proud to say these were all bought locally except for 1 !

The dark ones are hard to read in the photos so if anyone is curious about any just ask. Not looking to part with these guys yet though. Don't mind the dirt and rust, as always I am way behind when it comes to cleaning my finds.

Just picked this up. 10" Utica adjustable. It caught my eye because it appears to be newer than the examples on AA. the top part of the jaw slide has squared corners, instead of the usual round cross section. The only other adjustable wrench that has this feature to my knowledge is jh williams.

My 8" Master Mechanic is identical to this wrench, I assumed it was jh williams because of the squared slide. However it has the Utica style jaw opening. On the reverse there is a triangle (on both master mechanic and Utica), does this indicate triangle tool corp?

All the Utica adjustables on AA have the round slide.

I more-or-less started out with an assortment of Proto adjustables from 4" to 24", a gift from Dear Old Dad. Because of this, I have a soft spot in my head for Proto adjustables. There was no 15", I bought a Blue-Point from the Snap-On Dude when my job required one. Prior to working the assembly-line, I had very little use for adjustable wrenches. On the line, the 12" and the 15" were absolutely indispensable. Horses for courses, I guess.

The original 12" Proto was "lost" at work (stolen), as was it's replacement. At this point, I have a 12" Spanish Channellock, the 15" USA Blue-point, and the rest are USA Protos in the "fan"
Adjustable_Wrenches_01.jpg

I have a batch of odds 'n' ends--a couple USA Crescents, and a lot of junk. Monkey Wards, Truecraft, generic ****, etc. None of these get used. They're all "spares". Somewhere there's a 10- or 12-inch black-oxide Utica that isn't in the photo.
Adjustable_Wrenches_02.jpg

There's a couple of 6" ALBR (Aluminum Bronze, non-sparking) adjustables from Ampco
Adjustable_Wrenches_03.jpg

I'd like some help with this: My original Protos must have been fairly elderly when I got them. The later Protos have a different design. The old ones have a rounded end to the thinner center section, the later ones the thin center section goes right up to the adjusting nut. They have the same part-numbering system, (708 = 8", 710 = 10", etc.) but the stampings are in different places. A quick search of eBay shows that Proto has had more than just these two designs--although these seem to be the two main versions, with detail differences.

When did Proto switch from the rounded-end depressed center section, to the depressed center section leading up to the thumbwheel? WHO made the older ones? Who is making the newer design? Here's an older 8" and a newer 10".

The older Proto wrenches were from when Proto acquired JP Danielson. These wrenches have the radius at the bottom of the jaw. They look like the 10" in your pic, except the examples I have do not have the center panel open to the thumb wheel like yours. Which is a WF feature.

The 8" has a hex gullet like WF, but center panel closed.
Edit: if you buy a brand new Proto adjustable today, it is WF. They have WF Clik-Stop too. They are open to thumb wheel.

Found one more....

....300mm Made In China

Specialty adjustable made for working around corners

ADJ5.jpg ADJ6.jpg

.

Do you have the special aviation snips too that are made for, get this, cutting corners and making jobs take half the time?

Of course, you will have to have it done correctly some time in the future to fix all the mistakes

Persistence has netted one addition to the Penncraft family: a 12 incher. Alas, not a hint of a six inch. I'm beginning to wonder whether they were even made. Maybe finding a 6" would motivate me to clean up the whole batch-not that they're really dirty or rusty. Notice the "Missing Wrench Formation" - they're pining for their lost brother.

In other brands, I got a 24" and a 30" because .... well, just because.

But they came in handy changing the ball on a trailer hitch! No more chewing things up with pipe wrenches!
