That's awesome man, I'm kicking myself right now. I saw a similar if not exact poster in a shop recently but didn't notice the Crown logo, I just looked at the nail and screw chart and thought, "I will never need that"... d'oh :(

I picked these two boxes up recently. The two drawer dated 03-67 had a lot of =V= Craftsman hand tools plus many other tools. Paid $40.00 for the lot.

Found a pair of Crowntop rethreading tap sets this weekend.
9_52114 NF tap set
9_52113 NC tap set
Both are 1/4" to 9/16"

The picture is after I cleaned the pouches. Still need to clean the taps.
Now I just need to find the Die sets to match. :bounce:

Picked up this old creeper at a yard sale for a buck. Kinda beat up and worn, wouldn't trust it to use. So I turned it into a shelf.

Cut the bottom twice and nailed together. Moved the top casters to the front of it. Bought 6" carriage bolts and some square nuts for the sides. 2 hours or so and $4 total investment ain't too shabby. Still want to poly it to protect it though.

ALL: i've had a lot of stuff in boxes and buckets and finally getting a chance to pull some out and GET ORGANIZED.

this one caught my eye not because it's a Craftsman Crowntop which i'm usually a fan of anyway, but that it was made in WEST GERMANY.

i found one on the Bay and he called it this so i'm going with this name for now. any other SEARS tools made in Germany?

There are also German-made "crown top" era dial vernier calipers (PN 40164). They have a distinguishable yellow dial face. Every now and then I see one on ebay.

Thought I had more but here's my small contribution. The other cool craftsman stuff I have is either older or newer than the crown logo. Original instructions, torque chart and even the Styrofoam packing ( the one for the head is in the box ).

I recently got this box from my mother in law. It belonged to my father in law, who got it from his dad. After my father in law died, this box almost ended up in a garage sale with a $10 price tag on it!!!! My MIL didn't think anyone would want it. :shocking:

Nice. I saw that exact box or in my Dad's garage a few weeks ago. Yours is in a little better condition.

Thanks 'Bomber,

I'm gonna clean it up a little and then dedicate it to storing my Craftsman =V= 1/4" and 3/8" drive tools. Any guess on its approximate age? I'm thinking 1950s, 1960s....

If I remember correctly, that plastic handle, in that shape, and with the ends pointed outward, would date the box somewhere between 1959 to the early sixties.

In addition, the Crowntop logo with the thick black border and no red outline would place it early in the Crowntop era.

Drives,
Good catch on the West Germany mark. The younger generation probably doesn't realize that Germany was split in two for a while. As for the verniers.... 25 plus 16 is....? Maybe it's good for preventing Alzheimer's, but I'll take a dial.

Thanks Jake. That was kind of my thinking too, but more based on information my MIL gave me in terms of recollecting when my FIL got the box from his dad as a gift. She thought it was about 1960 or so. Hard to believe the box almost ended up in her garage sale this past summer for $10.

Picked this up for $4. I'm still in awe of its condition and owner mods to maintain it and fit their needs.

I found a really nice Crown Top bench grinder on CL recently. When I get to have a Block grinder, with a Crown Top it is like -- :D. When it is in great shape I'm all :rocker:.

Found these today, an interesting little Craigslist find... they had been hoarded for over 40 years, at least. These are both brand new, never had a tool in either of them.

I got a second of the smaller 65161, but it has some water/rust damage on the side. Still new, but has a bit of cancer on it.

Restored this 1950s Craftsman bandsaw a few weeks ago. 103.24280

Then I found this 1963 or so 103.24260 bandsaw with slo speed converter.

I bought it for the slo speed converter. I'm probably going to take the motor, pulley and table and swap them onto he one I restored. Unless someone can tell me this 1963 model is better. The main difference is the self aligning upper wheel, but I don't think the tension is adjustable which doesn't sound good to me.

Bagged, awesome job! We have a Heritage Logo Thread for the 50s machines. I have read of issues with the non-tension models, you are probably better off with the 103.

I started taking apart the self tensioning model and I'm only keeping the parts off it as spares. The guide holder brackets will get swapped onto my 50s model.
