A Cman "Hollow Set Screw Key Assortment" model #46696

The vinyl pouch is still supple, and there are no rips. It just needs a good cleaning.

Awesome Dennis, try some simple green on a paper towel to remove the paint from the logo/label.

NOS 1973 Crowntop 1/2" Electric Impact

Craigslist Score.......

Just picked this up tonite....

Doesn't get much better......the anvil appears to be a virgin....

1973 price tag $139.95.......& tax.............I gave $65.00 cash.....(can somebody do the math on that for me....and tell me if I did OK?)

The IRONY of this deal is.........The house where I bought it was about 3 blocks from the Burnaby Sears store......where I was buying NEW Crowntop and =v= Craftsman handtools...42 years ago.

The Sears Auto center had a HUGE parts dept. back in the day....where we would get our domestic parts from......

In the parts dept. showroom....I remember playing with (and speed shifting) a Hurst Mystery Shifter demonstrator. :3gears:

I think if I pulled out my crown logo stuff, I'd take up a driveway. LOL.

I have a lot of 1960's Craftsman....the best stuff was inherited from those gone before us....a special place for me.

I went to a Rummage Sale at a local church and found this a carry box marked 5520.

It's a little rough but it was $10.00 and it had a bunch of 1/2 drive =V= sockets along with a Herbrand phillips #2 screwdriver and a 1-1/8 Barcalo Buffalo combination wrench.

Cheers

Jim

They made that same thing for many years, apparently. I have one I bought new in the early 80s; it's red instead of grey and it has the newer logo, but the construction is identical.

Yup, I have the same creeper. That stool is nice though. Now I'm going to have to keep my eyes open for one. :willy_nil

Picked up this stand yesterday. Previous owner said it originally had a belt sander on it. I have one of those that I picked up recently so I am considering mounting an old bandsaw I have on it.

If it belonged to someone that passed away, my theory is that they wanted you to have it and it needs to soldier on..

Seems Mr. McFeely has been busy on my street the last week. Dropped off some goodies to include these crown top beauties
#9-9049 fractional size drill gage
#4047 number size drill gage
#9-40136 4R 6" rule
#9-4026 protractor square center
Also picked up a made in Japan #9-40172 dial vernier caliper, I'll get pics of that later.

So, good day, bad day here yesterday.
First the good, got this crown top chisel arrived in the mail today. Looks well used, needs to be sharpened. But a quality addition to the tool room none the less.

Then the bad bad. Watched this brace and bit set on E-bay since it was posted. Wasn't really interested in the brace or bits, but the bit set included a crown top holder that looked to be in great shape. Description said seller had inherited it a few years ago and decided to sell it. Only two pics in the listing, but everything looked good. Showed up yesterday and I had a bad feeling as the brace handle was protruding from the envelope. Opened it up and the brace was fine, but the bits had been left in the holder and wrapped with nowhere near enough bubble wrap and then taped to a USPS flat rate envelope. Got the bubble wrap off and sure enough, the bits had torqued the holder all out of shape. My heart just sank. What I won this auction for I would have paid for the holder alone, the brace and bits were just a bonus. Not sure if it can be repaired without damaging the paint and that beautiful logo. But I am determined to try.

I have reached out to the seller to see if he is willing to refund at least the shipping cost. He has a 100% feedback rating, so I am hopeful.

Life - nice scores. Sorry about the tweaked holder, perhaps someone will have good ideas how to put it right.

Allow me to add my latest Crown Top addition.

I added a 1/2-HP rtop Block m-397.19590 Commercial Crown Top to the Craftsman collection yesterday.

It was listed for $25 in CL.

After a nice drive into Ohio, I said to the retired gentleman that it's my rule to always negotiate the price, especially if I've driven more than an hour.

However, I was going to make only one offer, $35.00.

He laughed, said OK, took the money and looked at me like I was crazy.

I explained I know these grinders well, and it is worth more than $25 to me.

These first two came in a toolbox I bought on Friday. I've never seen the battery post cleaner before. Anyone else have one?

My all time favorite hand saw. The blade says "24" Utility (Dock) Saw" and is engraved with "BLADE MADE IN NORWAY".

Cool thread, Nine. Subscribed!

I bought another tool box, just because of the Crown Top logo. A little rusty on the out side, a lot better inside.
