Always nice to find those old Reed sets complete. Looks like the tape measure lived a charmed life!
Indeed, the tape measure is a beaut. I posted a better pic in the vintage tape measure thread.

I spent some time cleaning up the pipe threader today. It turned out better than I expected. Seems to be complete with all the bits and pieces.

I picked up this 30" Heritage Box at an estate sale for $37.50 a couple of weekends ago. It's basically brand new, but I haven't had any luck finding a date stamp on it. Any idea when this one was made?

Here’s a piece of comparable age (but not condition) I picked up today: 207.25530 6-1/2” circular saw kit. Needs a new cord, at the least. 09D73731-62CA-48F8-A8D5-EF477ED6DF3E.jpeg

Jumpman-z: Sometime in the 50’s. Some of the earliest heritage logos showed up in the late forties. That has to be one of the cleanest boxes I have seen. Nice find.

Nice! I have a pair of those, buy one is branded Dunlop and has cool red drawers. The feet & divots interlock perfectly, wouldn't be surprised if they came from the same manufacturer.

**edit** weird, my phone broke that up into two posts, and i can't merge and delete. Gotta love the new forum software!

Yeah, I can never have too many of these things. I also have two larger ones, but they're not Craftsman branded. I often find them at flea markets, sometimes full of interesting hardware. My most recent one came fully loaded with old carbon comp resistors, I've used some of them in various music electronics projects (yes, the values drift over time so I measure first...)

Not too long ago, somebody posted a catalog clip from a 42 or 43 Big Book of the floor model Mohawk drill press. I can't seem to find it. Not sure if it was in here but it's as good as any of a place to ask. Can somebody please point me in the right direction or re-post? Thanks.

I've only had a shot at one of those small parts cabinets and it was trashed so I passed. I'd love to find some Heritage or Dunlap versions.

JoCo, that was me with the picture. Will try and refund where I stashed it on my computer.

Edit: Was on the CM Drill Press thread.

Here is my 1950s King-Seeley belt sander. When I bought it from the PO it was mounted on an old cast iron table. The day before, in anticipation of getting this sander, I had purchased for $20 a 12-inch three-wheel Craftsman bandsaw mounted on the original tool bench. This particular tool bench was only made in 1951 and 1952, the following year the flared legs were not as canted. I thought it might be too big but it was actually the recommended tool bench from Sears. I'm restoring an old Craftsman period correct motor to put underneath it, the one that came with it was a newer Dayton. Always surprised to see the tough old water decals survive for 70 years. I snuck my FrankLee inspired DP bench model stand in, sporting a Walker Turner table. JoCo, Smokes, nice to see the usual suspects here.

There's a lot of eye candy in those pics Hoorn! I'd never picked up the difference in the cant of those tool stand legs, I learned something this morning! The decal on the stand is in amazing condition. I've never seen more than remnants on one of those. It's also interesting that the sander has a decal instead of the aluminum badge. I glom onto more pre-war machines than I do Heritage era but I do pick up Heritage machines when they're priced right as my son in law is compiling a Heritage wood working shop. I'm on a learning curve with that stuff so it's always good to see something I'm not aware of from that time period.

That WT/Craftsman hybrid stand is fantastic!

Thanks JoCo! That sander is awesome. 67 pounds w/o the motor. I paid $70 for it and was pretty happy with that price, especially because of its condition and original paint. As for your mostly Long C stuff, please always find the flimsiest reason to post pics of your amazing tool showroom.

I meant to attach these as well. 1951 Craftsman catalog.
Wondering how you ended up with a 1950s date. From what I can tell, they were produced from Long C thru the heritage era. I also have a water decal version. My only WAG is it was due to metal shortages during a war (either WWII or Korea).

Heck of a sander there Hoon! I had one of those as well with a pretty nice decal. I attached it to a long c era builder saw stand and made a wood table top for it. Alas, when I moved I sold it to Rileysan because my garage situation changed.... It was my second most favorite craftsman power tool, next to my drill press. Man I miss that thing. It could rip saw dust like no ones business!

Thank you Smokes. Yes it can turn big wooden blocks into little wooden blocks very quickly!

Thanks Hoorn. That room with all the Long C stuff in it is actually (or is supposed to be) my area of actually making things but my collection has spread into my work area. I had every intention of finishing out the last third of the barn to move the collection into this summer but with lumber prices what they are, that's on hold. I did start a thread about the barn linked below. It's incomplete as it only covers what used to be the breezeway but it's a start anyhow. I keep waiting till the work/prewar room looks halfway civilized but it seems I always have something tore apart in there. I suppose I should just make it come as you are and go ahead and show my mess.

If you want a Craftsman sander that can really make the sawdust:

Of course, someone down the line painted it green over the decal, but it is a 12" disc with a heavy duty line-rated 3/4hp motor. It took both my neighbor and I to lift it up on the bench in the garage. I was going to restore it, but I think I am going to move it along to someone who tends toward that style of wookwork.

I've got a modern version of that from a different manufacturer, it's an absolute beast. The big 12" plate takes several minutes to spin down after it's been switched off. That Craftsman example is a beauty!

I just had to pass on one of those 12" Heritage disc sanders. It was in great condition. Broke my heart but I'd already spent my lunch money of a couple of DPs.

Paging JoCo! Heritage Bandsaw (103.24280) on its pedestal! $150. No affiliation to seller.

Thanks Cruzan but I've already got 3 of those things, one of them on a pedestal base. I'm referbing the pedestal based one for my son in law. I have another that I've been using for about 30 years now that I just moved up into the loft until I decide to sell it (which I really need to do). Making room for a prewar 16" Walker Turner made bandsaw I picked up a while back. The third machine was purchased dirt cheap to replace a cracked housing on my son in law's. I seem to do less and less woodworking these days and more and more working on old woodworking machines. I'm kinda enjoying the transition for now. I enjoy picking up the Heritage era machines when I can get them cheap. My plan is to restore a variety of them and place in storage for the day my SIL has a good sized shop of his home. Let's me dabble in a later era without dedicating shop space to sore them.

Due to 11b's Bandsaw thread, I became aware of the Power Pak (only knew of the Panls before). Since then, have been keeping an eye out. I found a Power Pak on eBay, and had a make offer (was listed @ $10). Threw an $8 offer out, thinking if it gets rejected I would still happily pay the $10 (shipping was ~$8). To my surprise, the offer was accepted! Just showed up today, with a surprise inside! Not only was there a Power Pak, it was in the OEM box! No instructions, but they are on VM.

I have quite a few V spinners, but this is the first one with a socket-end handle. The only one with a square shank too. I'm guessing this is probably the oldest in the bunch. Does the V in a circle help date it? Did I put it in the correct thread? I figured the pointy top A put it in this thread, as opposed to Crowntop. This one's had an easy life, with only a few shallow plier bite marks.

Nice spinner Mintgun and I think this thread is probably as good a place for it as the Crown one. There's a dizzying array of 1/4d spinners sold by Sears out there. These are mine that I can get quick access to. I think I've got them in chronological order from top to bottom but not 100 percent sure. All have round shanks. All are Circle V with the exception of the bottom one, which is -V-. Numbers 2 and 5 have broached handles. Number 5 came in a large 1/4d set with a butterfly rat so it would be early 60s. I'd put the top three amber handles as early to mid 50s. I think I've got a square shank spinner somewhere but if I recall correctly, it doesn't have a broached handle. Now I'm curious and have to find it.IMG_1255.jpg

Nice detective work! That looks exactly like it. For some reason, I would have guessed it was older. It's all a guessing game around here though. I am just learning about things like =V= vs -V-.

Nice family photo too. Thank you for the informative response.
