Looks to be missing the 3/8” drive sockets but has an extra ratchet and shorter extension. I think bmwrd0 is missing the shorter extension. Are all the 1/2” drive sockets D-I marked? They should go from 7/16” to 1”. The box looks nice and straight. This one has an extra crossbar that didn’t come with it originally. 30DBAF8B-A60C-418E-953A-D1412A409D28.jpeg

All D-I. I don't exactly remember, but I think one or two big sockets are dupes, and maybe a small missing, but maybe just no duplication. I have many extra DI sockets floating around, but which should be 3/8 drive?

I know PO was Navy, and running a drydock at the big navy yard in I think Benecia.

The 1305 drag link bit is likely original to the set. What brand are the rest of the sockets in your RTEC set? They look to possibly be black oxide Walden. The sockets in my RTEC set are Walden. If you are missing a socket for your RTEC set, I have some Walden sockets that I could spare.

I have 8 sockets as well so I think you’re good. I’m still looking for some RTEC stamped ignition pliers. 😳
I gave away my first pair and the pair I had coming to replace them got lost in the mail.😢

^ I still need a good RTEC spinner, although I think I might have spotted one in a set while digging through stuff in the garage but it didn't click in my head at the time. Pretty sure I only have one set of the little pliers and one set of the little ignition wrenches.

This beast arrived in the mail today. I think maybe Indestro might have actually made it?

I saw a driver like the one pictured at an ES today, but IIRC it was yellow instead of red. Is it Indestro? I picked it up because of the unusual shape, but I didn't see any markings on it and tossed it back. It had a cheapo feel to it.

There’s an old ball shaped screwdriver I’ve seen mention on GJ a few times - cheapo feel would probably be it.

(I don’t own a Vessel ball grip, but I hear they’re really good)

Searching the thread for hose clamp pliers and 2141 did not bring up any hits, so I'll share the pair I picked up yesterday. They're eight inches long. (1" grid)

I spoke on the phone with them earlier and just sent them a follow-up email. Contact is "Eddie".
He said he will send photos and prices for all of the Indestro STOCK as well as the display boards and merchandisers. BK

I have no space or use for display boards - I simply do not have the available wall space to hang them. Eddie mentioned that they HAD an old free-standing merchandiser on which the boards were mounted. I suppose we'll have to wait and see exactly what he's got.

In the meantime: any Indestro collectors in the Fremont, Ohio area would be well advised to take a look at this one.
The shipping alone might be a deal-killer for me unless they're offering fire sale prices.

Your set may have come in a box with these markings. Although I have the box, I am on the lookout for those Duro marked sockets that came in it. I have substituted some D-I versions. So far I have the Duro 5/8” and 9/16”.F2DCC309-7B00-4676-89D0-40BE14038BB1.jpegBE9D93DE-2CD8-496D-9B49-E7B71F23BF22.jpegE3E3BB51-E92B-4297-85A3-3F7363DEC039.jpeg372D3536-99AA-449D-AEB0-23B00ED05D13.jpeg996FB7CC-E70A-430A-99B7-C2CC9712E28D.jpeg

Those look nice. I’ve been watching for a set of Duro marked sockets with wartime finish to replace the D-I sockets in my box since the sets I’ve seen have Duro marked sockets. My search is moving slowly! I only am up to two sockets.

I have been on a search for Duro-Chrome marked wartime sockets to fill this box that I received empty.5F687E11-E16A-4089-A7B8-D3B9F7E2CBE0.jpeg
So when this partial set showed up on eBay recently I wasted no time overpaying for it on a buy it now.3893640C-43EA-4234-B9B6-1F7DF9D40C01.jpeg
it came with all but two correct Duro marked sockets, missing the 11/16” and 13/16” sockets. I cleaned up the sockets and added them to my nicer box and started searching for the missing sockets on eBay. 5A5C1FA6-96FC-403F-9E56-25C883318513.jpeg
I made a best offer on this 13/16” socket and it is on the way.CB1771FD-33C8-48DD-80DE-EB6F2BC67466.jpegA04158A1-AB20-47B7-A8FB-9F47F0B7EC1C.jpegBC668225-43B0-4FC8-AD3C-8FE792D309E5.jpeg
Now I am just missing the matching 11/16” socket, if anyone happens to have a spare (hint, hint).
OTG has a nice complete version of this set which was used in WW2. 2224F1DE-BCD8-4036-B8EC-F3DBE21E5EBA.jpeg

The 13/16” socket arrived today and went right into the set. I added a 11/16” D-I placeholder until I find the missing Duro. FDA4DF6F-CED1-47ED-B7F5-620D8FCEA812.jpeg
This wartime D-I 1/4” drive set arrived today as well. All of the sockets were included. Now I need to find another dark finish Duro 1/4” drive ratchet. Probably should add a crossbar and a spinner too.

Might anyone know the purpose of this MANZEL tool? Made of tool steel, measuring 16"x16" square and weighing in at 48lbs. I circled two pins/dowels, pressed in and only one side protrudes approx 3/4", the other side flush. I'm guessing it's a jig for a rearend, an alignment tool or an anchor. The screw-in "L" tabs, must certainly have a purpose, other than having the maker's name. How'd it fall in my hands? Here me out. Well, my fatass dumpster dived. Not proud, but am lucky (see pic). Long story short, a metal building, a block from my home, was being cleaned out. Within this building, were NOS parts from a Ford dealership, long gone. I ran/biked/walked past this building everyday, still do. Met the owners and was told a couple of pickers had gone through and bought what they wanted. After throwing up, I asked about the contents inside the dumpster, readied for the scrapyard. They told me, "have at it". What did "it" give me, two NIS (Never In Service) 1951 Ford flatty V8 blocks, multiple flathead cranks, carbs, heads, cam covers, etc. Side note: I did ask the owners another question (a glutton for punishment question), "What other items did the pickers buy?". The man replied, "Oh hell, lots of old stuff, you know, Ford and Lincoln signs and complete engines and stuff". "Oh yeah, a few Lincoln engines, V12's". After throwing up again, I thanked the man and tried not to let greed and envy control me.
Thanks for any help on the MANZEL tool.
Peter

I'm glad you saved some stuff.

Manzel made many tools for Ford. The numbers followed the general part number for Ford parts. For instance, 2000-series was for brakes. Your 4000 part number matches up to rear axle/differential.

Don't forget that Ford built trucks, too. They used the same part numbering system.

The pins probably were used with a flat bar that had holes to slip over them when the fixture was set to "zero." I agree it was a fixture for setting some dimension.

I see some Indestro Select shows up here. This 3/8 set was purchased at a True Value hardware store about 1967. It is complete except it may have been in a blue metal box and the cover over the ratchet teeth is missing. A few words about the ratchet. When you're pulling really hard, the head twists . Once I was pulling hard enough the cover for the ratchet teeth popped off. I have since lost that cover. About that time it started skipping a bit, and I never found any kind of rebuild kit I thought would work. It had one advantage over any other ratchet I've ever used: you knew which way it was set to turn just by feel. You knew the pawl position when you couldn't see it. Miss that feature sometimes.
I've got Snap-on and Craftsman ratchets with the lever, but when my hand is a a dark place I can never remember which way the lever should be.

Anyway, these seem to be later than the "Select Steel" name, but the numbers are the same.

Thorsen and P&C made ratchets of an almost identical design. Thorsens are quite common, and made in 3/8 drive. Keep your eye open at flea markets, swap meets, and estate/garage sales.

I’ll second that. The Thorsen ratchets are quite common and extremely strong and reliable although occasionally missing the cover. The missing covers don’t really affect the operation.

Anyone have any insight on if the ratchet is correct for this period box? It's up online and I'm temted to grab it for the nice label inside. However, I see a catalog entry from '59 and '61 and the label seems off for a metal box (the label is used on the plastic box in these catalogs) and the ratchet seems like a different design. Maybe the image was recycled from an earlier catalog?

Most of my Duro/Ind tools are pre-war so I'm not 100% on my analysis.
