I found this pry bar on Friday and could barely see the Craftsman markings. After the evaporust bath the markings are only slightly clearer.

Had to look in the dark corner of the shop on the floor at the farm sale for this. Was covered in old grease n oil, but after a little wd-40 and buffing, I think theres more paint left than I ever imagined there would be. Majn reason I took a chance, was that nobody bid me past my original $2.50! I'll try n post again when I get it fully cleaned up

I picked this up at a Restore last week

On the inside:

And the bits themselves are all Craftsman marked and matching. Too bad the 1/4" is missing

There was also a Long C table saw they were unloading as I was looking around, but I had to use the john before I could look at it closely, and I was already gone by that time!

Nice find, Beemer! I found the exact same set at a flea market back in 2015. I don't remember how I dated them, but it was late 40's early 50's. It was complete and in a little better condition. I admired them for a few years with the rest of the stuff on my Craftsman shelf and sold them recently on eBay for about $100 IIRC. As a data point, just in case you don't plan to keep them.

Haha! Love it! It's a strange, small world we occupy here in our little corner of the vintage tools universe. Sometimes we sell, sometimes we trade, and sometimes we buy, and somehow we all stay just one step out of the poor house! :)

These long C Craftsman socket chisels (1/4" & 3/8") were in a toolbox I picked up this summer. Both still have remnants of the Craftsman decal on the handles. I assume that the long C Craftsman on the blades was etched. Yes? No?

I would sure love to find more in hopes of putting the set together. Anyone have these or have a catalog pic of the set? Thanks!

1945 Catalog. I've got a set with the earlier decal on it and my best guess is that yes, the logo is etched on the blades. Always nice to have some decal remaining.

EDIT: I never have figured out how to post large pictures on this thing so I know that catalog clip is difficult to read. Sizes for the **** chisels are a 6pc set ranging from 1/4" to 1 1/2" while there's 9 firmer chisels ranging from 1/8" to 2".

Thanks JCS! Got a pic of your chisels? I'm thinking my two chisels are probably later with the smaller decal than the ad and the etched blade versus stamped. Look like some economizing on Sears part. What do you think?

This is the first batch I picked up. I've since filled the set in. A couple have very very scant remnants of the blue oval decal.

Not sure about the etched vs stamping. Looking closer at mine, mine do appear stamped. Been a while since I've looked at them. As far as the decal on your chisels, I think they probably exaggerated the size of the decal in the catalog drawing. I've seen several examples of them doing that throughout the catalog years.

Smoke: NOS!! Man those are nice. Too rich for my blood but not something you're likely to find at a yard sale. Outlaw did I side by side comparison of the Long C linesman pliers fairly early on in this thread, comparing them with Channellocks and Crescents. Based on that I'm convinced they were made by Channellock.

Who was the manufacturer on these ?

If you're interested in nitnoiding that a little further, see extended discussion on page 30 and 31.

Troll!!

BTW, I wouldn't have hesitated to drop $50 on those NOS pliers. What do the rest of you think they would have sold for if auctioned?

Brian

I have been called worse [emoji23] besides, my trolling has caused you to find some good thread appropriate stuff so I would prefer the term enabler [emoji23]

I looked up the NOS pliers Smokeshow was inquiring about, and saved all the photos. These are amazing. I'd love to know if someone here got them!

I can't believe I didn't see those NOS pliers as I'm looking almost every night. I must be slipping. Probably a good thing I didn't as they'd be hard to pass over.

I'm thinking as much as $100 but less than $150 was possible, Brian, but there's not a lot of precedence, so that's just a hunch.

Was that all the photos? I'd like to see that inside label without the pliers in the box. Did you see the first line of the second paragraph?

"Craftsman pliers are made by one of the world's..."

...world's what?! Leading plier manufacturers?! Best processes?!

It's almost as if the seller knew we were discussing the OEM!

I think their current slogan is “Craftsman pliers are made by one of the world’s lowest bidders”

Thanks to Smokeshow, who negotiated a deal I couldn't pass on. I have this DP in the legendary Camry - which has moved more vintage equipment than a fleet of Sears delivery trucks.

It has lived a rough life but at $50 I couldn't pass. It's missing the spindle cover and one of the quill handles but nothing appears cracked or broken. The motor is even period correct!

I spent about 15 minutes trying to get the head loose. Fortunately, I came prepared with a 48oz hammer, a 4x4, a can of Yield, and emery paper.

I'll be in Austin next Wednesday through New Year's Eve. Got any suggestions on where I should visit? Specifically talking about flea markets or swap meets. Thanks!

Haha. I run around in an old Grand Prix. That thing has hauled so many tool picks. I had a Blackhawk S4 in it at one time.
Nice DP. I do not see old drill presses up this way.

Looking for the following Plomb Pebbles Wrench 3061

Always glad to be a poor influence [emoji23] if I don’t have room for it in my garage , at least I can come visit it !
