My search is finally over for this elusive table saw. Picked it up last night after seeing it advertised on offer up. This is the rare 9” table saw that was introduced in the 1940 craftsman catalog model number 101.02181. It is missing a few parts but overall good functional condition. Comes with the original 3/4 hp motor. There is the typical rust and cancer on the sheet metal at the bottom. Super excited to have it in my collection.
Nice! When I saw the handwheel, I knew it must have been made by Atlas. Sure enough, it has a 101. code!

An update;
Don generously offered a few spares for the Long C box I picked up, and I sourced (my junk drawer) a replacement leather handle:

The search goes on...
I am currently moving my long c collection into the top chest I cleaned up that you originally found and am finding some spares already. I will bring them next time we meet for you to peek through. In between myself and jocosawdust, we should be able to fill some gaps!

This saw is pretty uncommon! Nice find. Delta made top notch stuff

WOW, I AM IN AWE!! I first got interested in Vintage tools and Vintage Craftsman ( the latter being my favorite) a little over a year ago after my Little Brother, Best friend and Business Partner passed away. We were close so I was extremely upset and I needed a diversion. One day I was going through his tools, ( We had a Handyman Service) My Father's tools, and mine. I came across a few things that I thought were interesting and obviously Vintage. One of them was a 3/8s breaker bar Craftsman vandium with the complete underline logo and I tried looking it up and ended up joining a few Craftsman tool collectors sites on FB. Anyway I found many, many similar ones but not exactly like mine and nobody until just recently

Jimmy, I am sorry for your loss. The last five years have been one big exercise in saying good-bye to some very prominent people for us. It has made managing a challenge a times. Hang in there. ^_^

Can you show us your interesting piece?

I agree it wouldn't make a good "carry" box. A large portion of the weight would be placed on the pawl of the lock. I suspect a lot of these boxes failed miserably if fully loaded.

You are correct, sir! I just had a handle fail during recording. Gotta love it...

I got my small 19” width top chest set up on my work bench and filled up with all my long c tools. I still have a lot of holes to fill but I have more tools than what I thought. I am going by a local collector’s collection next week to see if he has some spares and once I get those I will post my needs.

Proto body hammer shown in front of it to show how small it is. Most of the time you see the 22” wide ones, not these smaller ones.

Looking good Smokes. Send me a list of what you're looking for. I'm about 10 days out from getting on the correct side of the pond.

Picked up a couple more items- be marked 1/2 drive stud puller off eBay. It’s in pretty good shape and the teeth only show slight wear. I also bought some stickers for my drink container since the current sticker is coming off.

Is this stud puller somewhat uncommon? I don’t recall seeing a ton and am honestly asking, not trolling 😉

I’ve seen a few of those for sure. But like you I haven’t seen the earlier ones(Or maybe I wasn’t paying attention?)

I've got a Circle H stud puller for what it's worth. I've only seen the one I have in the wild and can't recall seeing any on the 'Bay but I could be mistaken.

Thanks. I was thinking they were somewhat uncommon but like I said, a long c stud puller wasn’t on my high alert list so I figured some could have slid by without noticing.

Also picked up this long c circle H drag link socket off the bay. Unfortunately it has the all too common vise grip marks on it but it looks fairly straight and doesn’t show a lot of reworking on the tip. I didn’t put a ton of money into it so that’s ok.

I was comparing a couple things about the 3/8 Hinsdale tool set I recently picked up, to the Vanadium Craftsman set. The boxes, for one.

I think most of us have seen the socket comparison before, so I skipped it. The eight inch extension is a dead ringer for the unbranded Craftsman extension obtained through Lesserson and his flea market travels a while back. I was quite happy to be able to add the extension to the set.

I’m excited to be adding one more piece to the set. A breaker bar! The correct breaker bar from that era. It was on Ebay and I had to have it. I’ve never seen the ratchet and breaker bar together.

For those curious about the Hinsdale breaker bar. They were using a much beefier version in this particular set. I also noticed the missing Hinsdale ratchet in this particular set would not be a round head like the Craftsman above, but one of the more commonly seen pear heads. The ratchet outline in the box (not pictured) tells all, and aligns with catalog images I’ve seen.

Nicely done. The comparison is interesting. One could certainly believe Hinsdale made tools for Craftsman( this could have already been verified and I just don't recall it). Is there a link to the socket comparison? I will search henceforth for it. On a slight hijack I've got a friend looking for a 9/16" x 3/8" drive socket to fill a set if anyone ever comes across a stray.

Glad you got that. I saw it and was hoping it would go to a good home!

Several times over, but in a few different threads, including this one.
Alinc, I believe it was OTG that did a socket comparison earlier in this thread.
The ratchets have been compared somewhere, too, here, ratchet thread, or both. Hinsdale supplied DBE and DOE wrenches in the same era, Andy.

The dbe/doe wrenches you are referencing, are you talking about the craftsman Long C -CI marked ones? I thought those were made by billings/spencer but I could be wrong?

I was happy to find this Hinsdale wrench in my DBE box to fill the gap in this partial set.
1671836263925.jpeg

I posted those wrenches earlier in this thread, but snapped a fresh photo for the current discussion.

I found the largest of these CI wrenches this week and am wondering if the one below that is one of the Hinsdale-made wrenches. It is marked C-1729 on the smaller end. There's an area around the CI on the 1731 where the chrome is lifting, but the outline surrounding it makes it look like some sort of factory defect.

Dude 😳😱😱, where are you finding those wrenches? Not an easy find and to find the small offset ones is even more uncommon!

It was total luck and a freak coincidence finding them in a tray that fit a box I already owned; along with the complete C-series socket set. I shared it back in post #3661 when I found them and again in #3675 after I cleaned them up.

The DOEs were all found separately. (Mr. WBM had Fairmont and Vlchek DOEs in his kit).

You have to buy some lottery tickets. That’s amazing to find them all together in a set!
