Nice! When I saw the handwheel, I knew it must have been made by Atlas. Sure enough, it has a 101. code!My search is finally over for this elusive table saw. Picked it up last night after seeing it advertised on offer up. This is the rare 9” table saw that was introduced in the 1940 craftsman catalog model number 101.02181. It is missing a few parts but overall good functional condition. Comes with the original 3/4 hp motor. There is the typical rust and cancer on the sheet metal at the bottom. Super excited to have it in my collection.
I am currently moving my long c collection into the top chest I cleaned up that you originally found and am finding some spares already. I will bring them next time we meet for you to peek through. In between myself and jocosawdust, we should be able to fill some gaps!
This saw is pretty uncommon! Nice find. Delta made top notch stuffMy search is finally over for this elusive table saw. Picked it up last night after seeing it advertised on offer up. I’m a dumb dumb. I knew that but somehow got my wires crossed. You are rightActually, with a 101 Model prefix, it's not Delta, but Atlas. (who bought Clausing and later changed to that name)
WOW, I AM IN AWE!! I first got interested in Vintage tools and Vintage Craftsman ( the latter being my favorite) a little over a year ago after my Little Brother, Best friend and Business Partner passed away. We were close so I was extremely upset and I needed a diversion. One day I was going through his tools, ( We had a Handyman Service) My Father's tools, and mine. I came across a few things that I thought were interesting and obviously Vintage. One of them was a 3/8s breaker bar Craftsman vandium with the complete underline logo and I tried looking it up and ended up joining a few Craftsman tool collectors sites on FB. Anyway I found many, many similar ones but not exactly like mine and nobody until just recently
That's precisely why I bought it, Smoke. Someone will need/want it. And I might even have one left around here I can switcheroogie!
I agree it wouldn't make a good "carry" box. A large portion of the weight would be placed on the pawl of the lock. I suspect a lot of these boxes failed miserably if fully loaded.
I am going to our mutual friends house next week and after that I can send you a list once I get the local spares he hasLooking good Smokes. Send me a list of what you're looking for. I'm about 10 days out from getting on the correct side of the pond.
I’ve seen a few of those for sure. But like you I haven’t seen the earlier ones(Or maybe I wasn’t paying attention?)I have a =v= stud puller but I haven’t run across an earlier one. Here is one posted a few years ago.
-DonNeed help identifying craftsman tool
I found this in one in one of my boxes but I cant identify it. I have found no visible markings besides the craftsman logo and looked on alloy artifacts to no avail. I know there are some tool wizards on this site that are rich in all tool knowledge. Looks like some kind of adjustable wrench or...www.garagejournal.com
Thanks. I was thinking they were somewhat uncommon but like I said, a long c stud puller wasn’t on my high alert list so I figured some could have slid by without noticing.I've got a Circle H stud puller for what it's worth. I've only seen the one I have in the wild and can't recall seeing any on the 'Bay but I could be mistaken.

Nicely done. The comparison is interesting. One could certainly believe Hinsdale made tools for Craftsman( this could have already been verified and I just don't recall it). Is there a link to the socket comparison? I will search henceforth for it. On a slight hijack I've got a friend looking for a 9/16" x 3/8" drive socket to fill a set if anyone ever comes across a stray.I was comparing a couple things about the 3/8 Hinsdale tool set I recently picked up, to the Vanadium Craftsman set. The boxes, for one.
I think most of us have seen the socket comparison before, so I skipped it. The eight inch extension is a dead ringer for the unbranded Craftsman extension obtained through Lesserson and his flea market travels a while back. I was quite happy to be able to add the extension to the set.
I’m excited to be adding one more piece to the set. A breaker bar! The correct breaker bar from that era. It was on Ebay and I had to have it. I’ve never seen the ratchet and breaker bar together.
For those curious about the Hinsdale breaker bar. They were using a much beefier version in this particular set. I also noticed the missing Hinsdale ratchet in this particular set would not be a round head like the Craftsman above, but one of the more commonly seen pear heads. The ratchet outline in the box (not pictured) tells all, and aligns with catalog images I’ve seen.
Glad you got that. I saw it and was hoping it would go to a good home!I was comparing a couple things about the 3/8 Hinsdale tool set I recently picked up, to the Vanadium Craftsman set. The boxes, for one.

Several times over, but in a few different threads, including this one.One could certainly believe Hinsdale made tools for Craftsman( this could have already been verified and I just don't recall it)
The ratchets have been compared somewhere, too, here, ratchet thread, or both. Hinsdale supplied DBE and DOE wrenches in the same era, Andy.Alinc, I believe it was OTG that did a socket comparison earlier in this thread.
The dbe/doe wrenches you are referencing, are you talking about the craftsman Long C -CI marked ones? I thought those were made by billings/spencer but I could be wrong?Several times over, but in a few different threads, including this one.

Oh I know what you are referencing and yes, those are hinsdale made. They are uncommon/ borderline rare so most folks don’t have any.No, they were earlier than "CI" and probably earlier than long C. They have the plain CRAFTSMAN logo like the C series. I don't have any Craftsman versions.
Yup,Right. I was just filling Andy in that Hinsdale is a known early supplier.

DudeI was happy to find this Hinsdale wrench in my DBE box to fill the gap in this partial set.
I posted those wrenches earlier in this thread, but snapped a fresh photo for the current discussion.
I found the largest of these CI wrenches this week and am wondering if the one below that is one of the Hinsdale-made wrenches. It is marked C-1729 on the smaller end. There's an area around the CI on the 1731 where the chrome is lifting, but the outline surrounding it makes it look like some sort of factory defect.

where are you finding those wrenches?
You have to buy some lottery tickets. That’s amazing to find them all together in a set!It was total luck and a freak coincidence finding them in a tray that fit a box I already owned; along with the complete C-series socket set. I shared it back in post #3661 when I found them and again in #3675 after I cleaned them up.
The DOEs were all found separately. (Mr. WBM had Fairmont and Vlchek DOEs in his kit).
You guys will be happy to know I went back and read all 94 pages of this thread. It's so cold I can't stand to be out in the garage. There are a lot of great tools,a ton of great info in this thread.More reading.LOL. Then memorization, man.I'm getting old.
