It's technically not a replacement for any 'real' scanner that has bi-directional controls. What it is is an enhanced global obd scanner. It will only be used to speed up diagnosis dealing with advanced driveability problems. It has specific tests for fuel trim, o2s, cats, volumetric efficiency, etc. Even talks to you and tells you if there is a problem, automatically pulls up troubleshoooters when it sees a problem and shows definitions of mode 6 tests. Basically everything I had to do in my head before is now put into a nice display. It's not exactly a cheap setup initially, but the updates are free. I opted for the bluetooth version so I'm in it for roughly $1500 with the cost of the tablet. You could pick up a used solus/modis/verus for that cost, but of course you would have yearly updates to pay for. I wouldn't have one as my only scanner and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone that didn't spend the majority of their day dealing with driveability issues across multiple vehicle lines. http://www.automotivetestsolutions.com/escan-pro.html

Thanks for the review, even though I was not asking. I have been following various systems the past year, as our shop is looking at updating from an older solus, and I wouldn't mind picking up a personal unit.

I really like not being tied to snap on or someone else for updates. Your scanner caught my interest, lookS like a pretty comprehensive unit for just OBDII. The blue tablet helps out too ;) But for a stand alone unit, bi directional is a must. I have been eyeing up the ethos plus. Looks like a good little unit, and they will roll in three years of updates with purchase I believe. Never have played with one though, so I can't say anything more than some BS'ing with my dealer.

Ok thanks, that's actually reasonable, it's my understanding that they dont warranty them is that correct?

Technically I don't believe they are. I think some dealers will do it for good customers and just eat the cost. That's only my speculation, though. I had a cool dealer before who said he'd warranty a couple but I just paid him the $20. To me it's normal use/wear. I do prefer the comfort grips over chrome handles, though.

I recall some of the reviews of the buffer said it was a non-standard thread size. Let us know how it really works out for you.
Thread size is M8 x 1 according to parts breakdown, which is an odd one. I was more surprised it was threaded vs the standard collet like a die grinder (probably to keep idiots from sticking drill bits in there).

I'll be using 2" rolocs mostly, so the piece that came with will work fine. This is just to take away a lot of frustrating time with a scraper and x-acto getting difficult gasket material off.

Exactly what I needed to know. Thanks man, I still do it in my head. And for the other guy looking at the ethos, not much for bidirectional. Be warned.

Where abouts did you get them from? I've nabbed a few extra 13/17/19mm from the Masters closing down sale, but haven't gone for a complete set.

How are the prices at masters? I bought a few from them a few years back. Not the cheapest.

Got that set from eBay. There's a seller from QLD that usually has a good selection of Stahlwille.

As far as I could tell, the OTC 7249 Ball Joint Press was made outside the US for a brief period (circa 2013/2014?) when most of the rest of their product line also moved but then it looks like that model press set at least came back to being 'Made in USA' I'm assuming when it started being rebadged as the Matco BJP7025C (for more than twice the price).

That's what I gathered anywho after carefully reading tons of customer reviews (like, all I could find) at places like Amazon. Some reviewers did say theirs were not made in the US but those all seemed to be a few years old, but I noticed all the newest reviews, as well as the oldest ones, said they were 'Made in USA'.

FWIW, I bought from Tooltopia.

Matco and Mac had rebadged OTC presses back in the 1990s.

Couple new things with more stuff on its way. Being a new tech means buying a lot of new tools. I am so very thankful that student discounts are available.

Bought these to do inner tie rods. Don't have a tie rod tool and all the rentals and wrenches wouldn't work- but this did.

Got the idea from this site- never knew how good knipex were- amazing quality:beer:

Bought it since I just don't have an adjustable wrench just yet (been looking at Irega's 92W though). Been useful for random hydraulic fittings so far.

Cheers, I'll have a look.

Prices at Masters aren't too bad, I think I got my 19mm for about $17 after the x% off that they were having at the time. Pickings are slim now though. At one point they had a 6-19mm set for $150, which I thought about grabbing but then I realised just about everything I do is covered by 10/13/17/19mm.

Torque multiplier/ lug nut remover from amazon, I wasn't sure if this was actually going to work (looked like some as seen on TV junk), but it's great on the side of the road removing semi tires. Also bought the adapter to run it off a 1/2" ratchet or torque wrench. Could see it working on a third member nut or eaton transmission rear yoke nut also. Loosened up some 14.00r20's on the crane the other day with no trouble.

20161116_151737.jpg

Also some bonney and armstrong offset wrenches, goes up to 2 3/4" works nice for hydraulic hoses in a tight area. Got from ebay.

Now that's pretty. I've been waiting for the Snap On air hammer to go on promo for a while, no dice yet. But I love my SLP cut off tool, and will definitely buy more from them. I'd appreciate if you could update after you use this for a while, or if you can compare how hard it hits to other common air hammers. Thanks!
