More seriously, there are many ways to skin the photo cat here at GJ. Sometimes I paste the photo into an email text box, CTRL+A and copy what's in that window, then I go to my web browser and paste that into my post at GJ. This retains proper orientation, too, compared to some other methods.

Sometimes you can just put your mouse pointer on an image and select "Copy" and go paste it. I've had the "too large blues" here under the modern GJ forum software but it's been a few months and I don't remember how I worked around it - but I'm sure there's a workaround. For no good reason, I rarely upload a photo directly from a folder on my laptop.
For some reason l cannot copy and paste a picture into the text body on GJ. It crashes my Edge browser.

If you are using a windows pc and the photo is too large to upload, there is a free image software tool called IrfanView. I have used it for years and years. Open the image file in IrfanView, find the resize/resample menu item and follow the instructions to specify a lower resolution image file size. Not too difficult even if you are technology challenged and I'm sure that there are YouTube videos showing you how to do it too.
You can also resize with the Photo App built into Windows.

Vessel is from Japan. What is the obsession with Made in USA?

Japan used to be the second leading industrial economy in the world until China bested them, and put them in 3rd place.

The Japanese produce some of the most sophisticated and best products on earth.

Was only joking because of the extensive literature that most likely did not originate in the US, apologies if the absurdity of the question was not apparent.

Some of Vessel’s products are made outside of Japan, but this one is made in Japan, and is very short, 2 5/8 inches including the bit. It has a slight click at the detent on “regular” bits, but I would be afraid of any bits less than 1 3/4” long being pushed into the handle and irretrievably. 2” long “regular” bits like the one shown work great without fear. I like it.

I haven't been in the shop much lately, I was out sick for almost 2 weeks.

Anyway... I picked up a set of CAT screwdrivers today. There was a set available local and I couldn't resist them for $32.50 with my employee discount.

Unless they invent new types of fasteners, todays 3/8” and 1/4” metric Matco semi-deep impact sockets probably set me up for good. According to insurance inventory spreadsheet im north of $10k in sockets alone now.

Well call me crazy but I bought myself a welder - Hobart 210 MVP. Gonna do a little self-learning and then try that cat replacement myself. If that works I’ve got years worth of “when I finally learn how to weld” projects to try out…

you can do it, with practice.
I dumpster dove for old exh pipes at a local garage, cut them up and welded them all back together.

Used my mig to extract a bolt that broke off flush in a ball joint knuckle on my volvo, it worked a treat.

I have the CAT screwdriver set as well. However, it looks like my set has one more. I can't remember the part # as it's been a while since I purchased the set.

I picked up the 6 piece screwdriver set from my local dealer a few weeks ago. I can confirm CAT sources them from Snap-On. But I'd guess Snap-On sources these from Williams as the CAT screwdrivers look just like Williams. CAT PN is 162-7804 for the 6 pc set.

Here's a pretty current catalog.

That was my understanding as well, CAT>Snap-on>Williams all the same. I couldn't remember the 6-piece set part # to save my neck. Thanks.

yeswelder mig from amazon, 120/240 dual voltage , alum capable with spool gun and gas . I have argon from my tig welder.
I find a small mig more useful around the car , already extracted a broken bolt with it, tig would be a pain, especially outside.

First one was all splatter so I started a return ticket to amazon,
yeswelder said it has 12 month 100% guarentee and offered me a new machine , which I took, and it worked fine.
Original welder just had reverse outputs, so I got 2 brand new migs for $400. Easy fix.
Gave the first one to my farmer next door neighbor, he says it works great around the farm, he welds almost daily.
He plows my driveway anyway, its all good stuff up here in northern Maine.

Its no hobart or miller but it works for me on SS fixed income.

I appreciate the warning. I looked into pre-sprung assembled struts for the BMW, but the choices were not to my taste.

In my case, it looks like I can put them on while still on the car, and so mostly use them as coil "holders" rather than "compressors". My plan is to always keep my body out of the axis of the spring at all times. If I'm the least bit uncomfortable with how the tool looks under tension, I'm not going to loosen the top nut at all, I'll just put the strut back on the car and go on to my 2nd and 3rd options.

But again, I _do_ appreciate the heads up. I am going to take a very conservative approach to this one.
as a fellow euro guy, Strutmonkey.com is the go too if you want preassembled stuff, guy uses all oem stuff or w/e aftermarket combos u want.

Nice Napa haul today. Was waiting on me at home. Only part one of my order haha. Other part should be here tomorrow. I keep losing my number 2 Phillips heads so I bought an extra one again lol. I ordered one from Snap-on about a month ago but he hasn’t been back since so I’ve pretty much written that off. Then a set of metric ball Allen sockets. So for those who asked if I buy sets yes I do. This set I looked at it in person at a very rude Napa store so I chose to use my coupon and order it online instead of that rude store. I managed to get all of this for just $8 more than the entire set so $158 for everything. The Carlyle set appears very well made. I looked at the set at Auto Zone and Advance and they did not seem quality at all and seemed very weak so I chose the middle ground set. It was either this Snap-on or Mac or Matco and they are all priced $110 more than these so since they aren’t an everyday use tool I chose these. I’ve had excellent luck with Carlyle tools just they are expensive which is why I don’t buy them often. Then I got a 12mm socket for one set I need to complete at the house. And the tool coming tomorrow is for Subaru as I’m still a Subaru tech since the Toyota isn’t permanent.

That's pretty useful.

I've gotten used to doing it myself (I won't say comfortable...), but that might well come in handy. Thanks!

Picked up a new DeWalt Mid-Range impact wrench. The one on the right is the new one (DCF892) and the one on the right I have had for 3-4 years (DCF894). The DCF892 has 600 ft. lbs. of fastening torque and 800 lbs. of breakaway torque vs the DCF894 has 330 ft. lbs. and 600 ft. lbs. The are exactly the same size, but the DCF892 is slightly heavier. DeWalt got this much torque out of a mid-size impact, which is impressive. I saw a test on it and it actually broke loose a bolt that had been tightened to 900 ft. lbs.

They do have a big boy that has 1,200 lbs. of breakaway torque, but it is massive and heavy. For my needs, I don't need anything that big. And probably didn't need this new one either -ha! However, I mistakenly thought the DCF894 had 330 ft. lbs. of breakaway torque. 20230412_204050 (002).jpg
