got a care package from my good friend Don so I can complete a couple S-K sets and maybe flesh out a Kraeuter set a bit, and a few extras.
I especially appreciate the return of the "Taiwan/Junk" zip-lock - but I can't recall what it was I sent to you in that bag!

I couldn't have sent you the junk - it's in the "JUNK" zip-lock and it's still sitting on the kitchen table!

Also got the Icon floodlight from this weekend's sale. Used it today at work & surprisingly I'm pretty happy with it. I'm pretty sure this one & the Braun ones are made by the same manufacturer as the Snap-ons. Also got me another tool bag cause for under $4 why not.

My coworker/team mate got me an early birthday present.... a step stool/roller chair. There's an ongoing joke at work about me needing a step stool when I work on trucks cause I'm short, I've been using empty wooden 4ga wire spools as step stools so the boss won't buy me one. The roller chair aspect will also come in very handy when I work on front ends.

I'm so grateful that in return I got him a pair of Klein 1006 crimpers for his early birthday present. He had a Snap-on crimper that failed at the pivot, he got them warrantied but the replacements are so damn stiff/tight they **** to use. Been almost 2 months using everyday & still haven't loosened up a bit at all. Gave him the Kleins today & while out the package they were slightly tight, by lunch they already started getting smooth. I'm happy & I'm glad he's happy.

So disappointed in the Snap-ons. I use my trusty Thomas & Betts at work that I got from Matco almost 25 yrs ago. Speaking of which I bought me a back up pair from Zoro a few months ago.

My Thomas and Betts crimpers look just like the ones shown above, but are from 1981, purchased during my second Engineering job.

I don't use crimp connections often, but when I do, they are my goto crimpers.

I like Gedore stuff. How are these ?
They're excellent. I haven't used them a lot yet but I love the angle they have. Honestly without that I wouldn't have bought them. The quality is top notch. They're perfectly smooth without any break in needed. I wanted the NWS version but I'm glad I got Gedore instead. They are a step above the NWS made Felo pliers I have.

My previous/first Gedore purchase was a socket set that included a ratchet with the metal split at the handle. So I was skeptical but these are nice.

They're $33 on zoro. Less with a coupon.

Haha, funny you say that. I tend to stay away from all these COB LED lights these days, they look funny & kinda cheesy to me. But hey, I don't mind cheese on my eggs. :)

But it does have good output vs runtime. Can get a bit toasty on high when used for a long period of time. Case is metal/alumn & has some heft to it, which is good for heatsinking also, I just assumed it would be plastic.

The damn egg is not centered in the lens though which bugged me at first. I checked all the ones they had in stock, all the same. Took it apart when I got home & there's no easy way to fix it, just the way it's made (mcpcb mounted on the heatsink), not worth the trouble so I just put it back together. Which reminds me, I wanted to see what kind of battery (or 2 in parallel) was in it but totally forgot, damnit oh well.

Good on your coworker for getting you one, I'm really surprised with the culture of safety in most workplaces today that your boss wasn't worried about using empty wooden spools as a step stool..:(

I've been pretty happy with mine. I'd probably skip the Icon stick light overall (it is fine, but not great), but the puck light is really bright, lasts a long time, has a really strong magnet and has survived several falls from 5'+

Yeah a couple of my coworkers use the Braun stick light. They're not for me but the latest Braun ones are better than the Icon stick light IMO. I use my two neck lights most of time & we do use plug in fluorescent under hood lights to light up interiors but they don't light up everything (we spend a lot of time working in the interior). That's where this puck light fills in the voids when needed. Day 2 of using it & I'm pretty happy.

I was just thinking the other day to buy some Spid brushes, how do you like them?
I have only done a couple of swipes with it, my first with them myself. My initial reaction is I’m impressed nice and stiff, and the tip gets in some tight spots. I saw them on a u tube video but can’t for the life of me remember who it was. I will update in the next day or so after a little use. $28 for six on Amazon they came from overseas free shipping

Wilde 7" cotter key extractor

20240413_092128.jpg
I mentioned a few weeks ago at the a cotter pin puller is a tool of a thousand dozen or so uses. I have since remembered two more:

1) our new used Ford Transit van, the cargo mat is a few mm short and wants to pop out from under the rear plastic threshold. This is a good way to slip it back under.

b) Pulling ivy vines off of tree trunks.

910FF964-DD9B-435D-B38E-F600AD2C3584.pngGot this scan tool today from my parents when I got home. It’s an early birthday present. My birthday is Tuesday so one week from today. Really excited to use this. The reason I got it early is because my friend called and said she was stranded at work her car cut the check engine light on and cut off right away so I have to go diagnose it. I had a small code reader but that was it.

I'd love to see a review after you've used it, a few times, especially compared to higher end scan tools that you use for work.

I bet if you did all of that inspecting while it's on you wouldn't see the misalignment! You'd just be blinded.
Right you are, that is true. At work I don't have time to notice the misignment, which is pretty bad IMO. If I had this at home I would notice it much more but eventy should forget about it. Good thing I have enough lights at home & don't need/want one of these for home.

Grabbed a Jackson face shield, STECK pop river stopper kit, and VIM wire connector removal tool.

I’d sure like to know how that steck rivet remover works. I tried searching for a video the other day when that got posted but all I could find were flanging tools from them.

The first of two Knipex tools I ordered, and my first interaction with this brand.

Initial impressions are of quality, the soft touch handles in particular.

There was a thread here at GJ maybe 6 months ago about comfort grips on various brands. I'm still of the opinion that hand size is a big factor for many, whether the like comfort grips.

The typical Knipex gateway drug are the 10" Cobras. Even if you think you don't need that because you have some Channellocks or somesuch, you've got to try those! (Then start shopping hard for some "pliers wrenches", which turn out to be handier than you might think at first glance. Prices can sting, so shop hard!)

More AmPro arrivals.
-Coil Spring Compressor
-Pliers
-Cutting Pliers
I ordered an AmPro ratchet screw driver around the same time but that ebay seller seems to have gone Awol so I don't think those will arrive.
A tad disappointed that the Pliers are made in China and not Taiwaan like the rest of the AmPro stuff I have. 1st time I've seen a Chinese made AmPro product, let's see how it holds up. I've bought Chinese made cutters in the past and theyve bluttened rather quickly or haven't been great from day one vs some 20 year old SA made cutters I had. Let's see. They don't feel awful so maybe these are different.
Updated with Pic- they can pick up a quarter which my Husky ones could not do due to a bit of slop. Yes , I know this isn't a test of how good a plier is , but , if it was absolute junk like another pair I have, a Husky which is sloppy. It would not be able to do this so there is that.
