Finally found a deal I’ve been waiting for as I needed these. SAE flare end wrench set. I wanted SO as the open head is nice and thick. These are Vintage but don’t look like they’ve ever been used. 70 bucks for the set! One of my better purchases.

That set was the very first thing I ever bought off the Snap On truck at my first mechanic job back in 1991. Two weeks later got the metric set. Still have them, still use them regularly. Pretty sure I paid more than $70 back in 91. Great find!

I ordered a set of Wiha insulated screwdrivers for electrical use. Amazon had this set deeply discounted, but I can't figure out why. They were still in original packaging and unopened. The Wiha insulated screwdriver set replaced an inexpensive Pittsburgh set. Some might consider the Wiha brand an upgrade.

Finally got my replacements, got them a few weeks ago. Took them like 2 months to get the 1st pair, then almost another 2 months to get the replacements so I forgot about them & lost the excitement in getting them.

What were they replaced for?

Uneven jaws length, like really bad. Considerably more than 1/8". I tried to grab a small part with a shoulder on it & it couldn't do it. Yet guys on YT are showing off grabbing the edge of coins (not that I care about that).

I walked right back on the truck & looked at the other two he had (blue & green) they were much better/acceptable. He agreed to order another pair without hesitation & told me to just use those originals until he got the replacement but I didn't have a need to,

The replacements aren't perfect, wasn't expecting them to be, but lucky for me they are much better than the others I previously seen on the truck & compared to my coworker's (ex-coworker now).

Had I known it was gonna take so long I would have just ground down the longer jaw myself but I shouldn't need to to begin with.

That *****.

I haven't taken pictures or posted about it, but their quality control has definitely been lacking lately.
I've got 2 tools recently with "cosmetic" issues (that do not affect function).

I usually forgot all about something I ordered on the truck because it takes so damn long to get it, and it's been that way for a few years now at least.

1 or 2 more tools and I'll be completed cordless. I didn't matter much in town but it sure helps on a rural property.

Dangit! Now I need a farm! Then I can finally justify a cordless circular saw, a tractor, a 3/4" socket set to work on the tractor... GJ is an expensive place to hang around.

(The missus found a property in Montana, but it's a long gravel road named Grizzly Meadows Lane. Uh... that's a warning, in my book.)

You should buy one!

Ya know, I always figured I'd have a cordless impact and drill and that was it. Most other tools I had no problem dragging out a cord because you were it the middle of a "project" Everything needed a cord so what's the big deal? There isn't one. Lawn mower and trimmer were corded too! Then we moved...

When you have do use a lawn trimmer that need to go 200', well, you have two options, cordless or 2 stroke. Battery it was. So I bought a Dewalt combo, trimmer and blower.

Then, more than once, I'm in the barn with no electricity and needed to do something. Well ****, more than a few times, I had to string a few extension cords together to get something done. Dragging the Genny out wasn't really any fun either.

So here I am, with a bunch of "same brand tools to stay with the same battery line" and I know I'm going to get F'ed down the road and will have to re-buy all over again lol The exact reason I wasn't buying into the batteries in the first place.

I'm putting my corded tools away for a rainy day. :censored:

You want to make a small fortune?
Take a large fortune and buy a farm.

Interesting, I had no idea there were more QC issues these days, thought I was just unlucky. Thanks, good to know.

I also thought it was just my dealer that took long to get stuff but I haven't bought much lately. Most of my tool truck purchases were from the early 2000s, much of what I still have & use.

Our dealer only comes every 2 weeks but is understandable given our size (we don't buy much). Sometimes he doesn't even show up & it ends up being a month or more until we see him again.

Aside from the pliers, I've only purchased a neck light & 2 torches from him. Neck light took over 3 months. My Torch300 took about 2 months. Torch100 was no wait, got it when they first came out. Luckily there's not really anything else catching my eye so I'm good for now.

I’ve been waiting for a 5/15-18 tap from SO for a while, he said they have taken tap and die production in house but it’s a bit ridiculous.
I have spares
I haven’t bought anything in a bit.
SO’s show was this weekend i believe but not expecting anything that I need, want maybe?

Workpro electrician's/utility scissors.
20240818_153908.jpg

Why is there a screw in one of the blades? Well I'm glad you asked! :D I choose these Workpros due to a few criteria, one being inexpensive, room for what I wanted to do, & compact.

I use a lot of heatshrink at work, pretty much daily. Made me a contraption for cutting heatshrink to length quickly to refill my case/container. There's automatic machines that do it but they cost a couple grand. There's 3D printed plans online but I don't have a 3D printer. But I do have a lathe & mill. Thought about a tabletop guillotine/paper cutter style like the 3D printed ones but ended up go this route for portability. Looks goofy but my stoopid idea worked, well enough for me anyway.

You should patent that!

Sounds like the perfect excuse to dig a trench and run power to the barn!

Haha, that's what my lilttle brother said. China would just copy it in a heartbeat. It's happened to me before already.

I made a thing years ago. I actually sold quite a few, then this happened. I wasn't mad at all, thought it was pretty funny actually. At least they gave me credit for it, not really but sort of. Lol

Keep seeing people post these.... would like to know your opinion as well as others.... worth the money??

Funny you ask that, in the past I've never thought wow, I could really use a special tool to undo this connector, I've just squeezed it with my fingers. Maybe someday I'll come across a stubborn one where these will help. Basically just an excuse to buy another tool.

This is my biggest new tool. 1990's Alliant 942-3V. I have plans on doing a CNC retrofit, so currently researching that project. Bought it from a tool and die shop that was closing down in town. Motor is 220v 3P, so I built up a VFC to take 220 1 ph and make it 3 phase. I used the original "forward - reversing" switch to just run the forward and reverse enable on the VFD. Stepson has the maintenance truck with the crane to load the mill in and out of trailer, plus poke into the barn to set out of the way. I did end up buying a set of machinery movers to move it to the rear wall.

I have only done some squaring up of raw blocks and some holes, currently working on a set of dice and some T-Slot hold downs. Been collecting tooling and scraps of metal to practice on.

I have the straight version. Definitely worth it if you like saving your fingertips from those electrical connections. Makes it much easier than trying to do it with a screwdriver too.

Well, it's carburetor cleaning time. I have five or six of them to attend to.

I have a good-sized parts washer but was looking for something smaller so I started looking at ultrasonic cleaners. Seems to be a big gap between commercial units $$$$ or very basic units $. I chose the latter.

Most of the base units all seem to come from the same assembly line, just prettied up differently. I chose control knobs over electronic touchpads too keep things simple. Went for a 10L tub. Big enough, but not too big.

I'll put this into use next week.
