The clearance continues and I’ve just about got them cleaned out. All at about 50-60% off.
IMG_7313.jpeg

I’ll probably try to find a Craftsman box for my son to store these in.
Those V Series tools are legit. I gifted my apprentice my V Series regular and ratcheting combo wrenches as I have so many already and he’s in love with them. He’s been using them to restore his ‘72 El Camino. Even his mechanic friends like the tools. Too bad Craftsman didn’t try harder to market the V Series stuff, I think it would have been a real winner.

I never understood, either. My Lowe's Craftsman display had an ad for V-Series ratchets dating back to when they were introduced in 2017. Yet, they never actually stocked any until this Christmas season.

I'm confused, are they blowing out all the V-Series cause they're discontinuing them? I was under the assumption that was a newish line?

My local Lowes had a display of them, they seem like a very sturdy tool. One thing I did notice with the V-Series was some were made in China while most seemed to be built in Taiwan. I'm cool with Taiwan built, but I try avoid anything built in China these days.

I’m not exactly sure what the deal is and whether it’s just a local decision or not, but they seem to have more going on sale every time I go back. They may be clearing space? I have been steering clear of any Chinese made tools, except for those I keep on the boat (where tools go to sink!). I like the V-Series tools and most of what I have picked up seem to be Taiwan made. The wrenches seem to be really solid and the case provided is pretty nice.

I don’t know of any made in China offerings in the v-Series line. Just Tawain and France. More Lowe’s are offering them during this sale then ever before. High end tools aren’t really a big box store thing, but these prices are so low it’s astonishing.

I checked the entire V-Series Display just out of curiosity, there was a mix of China and Taiwan. Can't remember everything I checked, but I want to say all the sockets and ratchets were all made in Taiwan. Those stood out to me as they felt very high quality. Maybe it was the bits and screw drivers were the Chinese stuff, I can't remember?

That might've been regular Craftsman stuff that was put in the V-series display. As far as I know all the V-series tools are either from France (pliers and some screwdrivers), or Taiwan (everything else).

$27.49 at Lowe’s if you can find them. Identical to the Proto, with the ratcheting size adjustment. I like this over the awkward Knipex size adjust. Made in France. Who thought Craftsman would be my holiday gift of choice.

How are these? I have all the Hazet and the “chrome” finish Knipex in all the sizes.

I wouldn’t consider this at full price but for $28 bucks, these might make good gifts and for the car/beater kits.

I bought 2 based on the @Etchase post. I like them. I’m a big fan of anything Knipex and I have all the sizes as well. These are solid. My Lowe’s had them for $22 and that was simply too good to pass up.

I find them better than Knipex. The Facom branded and Proto branded tools routinely sell at a premium to Knipex and I paid that premium. At less than half those prices I found the v-series irresistible. I have no experience with the Hazet ones, but do have the Klein, with a similar one-handed lever size adjust which I liked. I prefer all the Knipex cutting items, but I’m not a fan of their size adjustment.

After two weeks of impatient waiting, my Craftsman (FACOM) Torxdrivers arrived today. I paid $24.99 plus tax from Amazon. I think I saw it listed for $23.99 earlier today, and now it's $29.99. It all depends on how much you tip the bouncer, really. For FACOM, it's a steal.

At the top of the photo, the Torxdrivers I already had. That there was only one overlap made the sale for me.

T20, T25, T27, T30, T40.

I often gently rib people for using manufacturer-supplied trays because they're space hogs and those same manufacturers want to sell you big tool chests with lots of drawers, too. This is a denser tray than many. In fact, there aren't many places to stick a fat fingertip to retrieve one, often, you need to touch the tip, ew, I might get oils on it. (Meh. I later realized, there's no law saying you need to push these down until their grooves hold them, all depends on drawer depth.) I'll probably just put them in a drawer without tray for max density. But it's a fairly nice tray.

Box looks like it went from a warehouse to a store to shelf and then eventually back to a warehouse then an Amazon warehouse then shipped to me in an envelope. (I'm certain about the thick brown envelope.) No skin off my back! I got a deal!

T20 next to my Wera 1/4". The Wera handle is a nice concept but to my hand, kinda small. (As I traditionally gripe, just because the fastener got smaller doesn't mean my hand did.)

IMG_0287.jpg

A note about the grips. I constantly sermonize about "oh just make the whole grip grippy, please." The Wera above, the green is soft and grippy, the black is slippery plastic. (Wihas, all the black is slightly soft and has good grip.) On this FACOM, er, "Craftsman", there are two slick, shiny panels, the rest are very finely grained and seem to give good traction. However, I spent the past months daydreaming about FACOM/USAG/Craftsman screwdrivers (and in the past, FACOM/Stanley or FACOM) thinking they had lovely ergonomics and were mushy-squishy, too. Nope! No squish. On the other hand, they claim good solvent resistance.

But right off the bat I can say I love the contouring. Feels great! **** is slippery smooth for pivoting in your palm/heel of hand.

IMG_0288.jpg

Biggest handle (T40) in my somewhat big (just sub-palm-a-basketball_ hand. Daddy like!

IMG_0289.jpg

Now, I don't feel silly overlapping with three perfectly great Wiha (just one) but well, this is all in the context of me already owning this sweet Bondhus T-handle set.

IMG_0284.jpg

A little silly. But this is GJ. I think you know the urge to have just the right tool for the right situation. Oh, and do I have some 1/4" and 3/8" drive Torx bits? Why, of course I do! That's where you start, in my book.

Ah yes, the Channellock 460. Very handy, brake piston calipers (outside of salt land, neener neener) and, with enough room, oil filters, too!
last time I used mine, it was to remove and replace a basket strainer in a sink drain. Actually, reused the plastic strainer. It was still good, the putty had failed after 25 years not the strainer or sink. I did have to replace the cardboard washer. I cut one out from a cracker box. :ROFLMAO:

Not my picture, but he also used the CL for that purpose.

I only used one pliers though because somewhere along the line I picked this up. I don't remember getting it, but it was there in the toolbox.

This is why we have so many pliers! Awesome.

If you'd followed my primitive boat building posts at The Underground Lair earlier this year you'd know to use a strip of Malaysian cedar bark.

You buy jewelry at Prince's estate sale 8 years ago and you don't even remember?!

So ,Ive been doing a few closets and other things around the house.
Found myself , out of convieniance choosing to use my 4 inch chainsaw to cut instead my jigsaw or my circular saw and my little Bosch screw driver to drive in screws above it's paygrade instead of my drill I decided it was time to get battery powered tools. Got this Makita set at HD on sale for $450
Almost went for the Rigid set because of a rather attractive warranty called a " lifetime service contract " and pricing wasnt bad either But not having a jigsaw and a Grinder included in that set is what swayed me to the Makita set .Ive previously have great experience with Makita and didn't know who Rigid were until I moved to US.
I may in future grab some Rigid in future as ot sound like it has a decent warranty on both the battery and the tool.
I won't get rid of my corded stuff but I have a feeling it won't be used much unless I need the hammer function on my drill or the batteries are both flat.

This set consist of
1/2 drill
1/4 impact driver
Grinder
Jigsaw
Circular saw
Receptacle saw
2x 4ah batteries with charger
Work light

Had to replace a Starrett 98 that I dropped (oops). Also got a 1-5/8” for some 1” anchors we have to place next week. And bought a couple 1/4” ratchets for the gang box. Always interesting to see what brands comes from McMaster. Curiously the ratchets aren’t straight. Not sure if this is a Proto thing.IMG_9328.jpegIMG_9322.jpegIMG_9323.jpeg

This one was company money but I got to say this thing is legit!!

IMG_0146.jpeg
Maybe I should have used a different tape measure to show the size of this thing, it ain’t no toy. And for $1,200 I wondered if it was going to be worth it.
IMG_0144.jpeg

It did also come with a door prize that just might accidentally fall into my box 😙
IMG_0145.jpeg
I’ve been really happy with my 1/2” one I bought a couple years back. I’m looking forwards to seeing how well the 3/8” works.
