I bought this Fortress Ultra Quiet Compressor last Saturday for $119. I wanted one for small nailing projects and broken furniture repairs in the home workshop. I read good reviews about it. The compressor is quiet for being oil less. I may only use it a dozen times a year if that. Plus it's portable for away from home jobs. I have a big one in the garage.

Apparently making poor choices became the theme of day. I ordered a Klein drawer style box to house my drill and impact stuff. I knew I’d lose some space but didn’t have a clue how much.

Well now I know this ain’t gonna work 😣

The impact sorta deals with it all.

But there’s no chance for the drill stuff.

And I got two more of these

Bought some old Britool whitworth wrenches on an ebay auction. Polished them up. Thought they'd come in handy for my BSA project. Impressed by the quality, the double box ends are very comfy to use.

Seems they don't fit all that well though. Maybe the screw heads are a bit worn. But it is frustrating when neither my metric, sae or these whitworth sizes don't fit quite right. At least Knipex does not fail, but clearance around screws is often too tight for the plier wrench.

Isn't is funny how you don't know you need a tool until you have it?

I've used my transfer punch set twice already today. Both times on aluminum, so no idea how they'll hold up on harder materials.

In the past, I would have grabbed a self-centering bit for door hinge installation, which does work--if you keep the drill perfectly aligned.

I wasn't on this thread in 2022, I don't think, but the story starts here. Harry Epstein's Day, July 2022. They had acquired a bunch of SK surplus T-handle Allen tools. The brand is SK, but they sure look like Bondhuses I already have in Torx. Heavy, sturdy, nice. There's stiff steel in those handles! HJE prices were very fair.

IMG_0384.jpg

I spent two years thinking, "I really need to build a holder for those things." Tonight, they're still in that box.

Somebody here recently showed us a nice, large set of Bondhus L handles in a fabric pocket organizer, all the way up to 17mm, said they got them from McMaster-Carr. So there I was a week or so later, perusing the McMaster website, wondering what they looked like on the website, wondering why they never reveal brand names. And then I saw it! You can buy just the organizer?! I didn't know that!

I took the part number (Bondhus #17936) and ran to Amazon, and then ordered it from Gott Electronics in Torrance, CA, and saved a dollar over Amazon themselves, but using Amazon to make the order (if that makes any sense.) $9.56 shipped!

Huzzah! Organized! And I did have a 9/64th in that jumble!

Those modular systems rob so much space. I have yet to see one from any brand that I personally really feel works.

The mod box stuff is pretty decent. So much so a couple of my guys bailed on Milwaukee and went all in.

After sleeping on it I realized my mistake. It equates to setting up a 3200sqft shop……then moving into a three car garage. 😣

@NUTTSGT - would it be fair to say you're so far satisfied with performance on those "Carlyle" sockets from NAPA?
I have no issues with the Carlyle stuff. I have bought pieces of their stuff over the years so I had no issues ordering the random needed sockets from NAPA.

Last spring, someone had a link to NAPA's website and deal of the month for a ratchet. I bought it as soon as I saw the price.

^ There's only one NAPA outlet around here left that I know of, and it's at least a 45-minute drive all the way to the other end of town.
I might get curious and drive out there - but only because I know of an "antique mall" down the street.
I never knew NAPA had an outlet store ?

Our old NAPA store had the tools on an end cap behind the counter. The new store is an old Aaron's and the tools are on the floor. They are in the front corner, somewhat out of sight from the counter.

Not sure what things are like where you are (or online), but Carlyle gets expensive fast. Just that assortment of sockets from NUTTSGT would be over $200 in store.

Inventory can also be questionable. Some stores have nothing and they are all different.

New Scan tool for construction equipment

That's interesting. I wonder how well it actually works. I don't know about other brands, but I was under the impression you can't access anything CAT without CAT ET, a laptop and a COM adapter. I have never seen or used a 3rd party tool.

Report back after you use it, or I'd like to see a video on your channel.

Prices in store were cheaper but online had Free Shipping. . . but of course priced higher.

Sorry - perhaps I shouldn't be using "outlet" as a synonym for "retail store".

Actually there are three NAPA retail stores in the area - all at least a 45-minute drive from me, and none of them are stocking the full line of Carlyle. The Lakewood location, where I was directed by the other two stores, has dropped Carlyle and switched over to Performance Tool (formerly Wilmar.)

Video Review here:

So I work for a Material Handling equipment dealer (over 17 brands) , I'd say we are construction adjacent but there is a bit of crossover with regards to engines and drive lines.

Aside from tools offered by Diesel laptops, I as well have never seen a aftermarket scan tool that could access what we work on besides the Ancel.

I can however confirm that it works for John Deere equipment(MANY OPTIONS) and Cummins engines (Hidden under Komatsu for some reason) It can also do Regens for Cummins, John Deere, and Volvo, but that's it for Bi-directional controls. Caterpillar is mentioned too but a couple reviews on their site mentioned having difficulty connecting to CAT.1000009116.jpg1000009118.jpg

Ahhh, I see.

When I was filling up the Hansen trays for the other box, I bought some at the local store. They didn't have much in stock so this go round, I just ordered off line. I know I paid more than the store but I wiped out a large section on the Hansen hit list.

Used the Inside Track membership to pick up a couple of the US General Mini Toolboxes. For under $10, these are incredibly well made. Great deal IMO.

PS - If you buy a couple of these, you almost immediately recoup the cost of the Inside Track membership ($30/year).
Dang, you got a black one… we need to trade 😂👍. I want to get some black as well

According to the Manager at my store, they will keep bringing out stock. I actually asked about red and she gave me the ‘come back Friday’ deal. But, I don’t shop on Black Friday.

Edited to Add - There’s a ton of these showing up on eBay … at inflated prices of course!!

Yup I was told they get another shipment Friday and to come back then. I work 3 blocks from the store so it’s pretty easy for me to just swing by👍

I would grab one of these but when I look them up at Harbor Freight's web page it just says "Currently Unavailable - Check Back Soon".....
