Order in from Deen Tools, I was not aware when ordering that they are not Japanese made tool. A bit of a letdown for sure, had I known that I might not have ordered. That is 100% on me. Looking forward to seeing how I like these roto head ratchets. I got two that are 3/8 in a 1/4 body.

Wait what? I thought all of those were made in a Japanese factory. I just googled it. The AI overview, which is notoriously wrong, said they were all made in a Japanese factory. Ugggg.

I think they are essentially Factory Gear's house brand?
I got to play with a few of those in Osaka and I was impressed with the quality.
Little funky that all the hard handle-ish grips are all indexed differently,
but I still think they will serve you well!

I'm really curious how you like the set.

I have all the sizes of the overdrive ratchets. I do not have all the sizes of the non overdrive.

My only complaint with them has been the heads seem pretty big but they work pretty well for me. I'm also curious how you like the manual driver. How does it feel in the hand.

Pretty nice score.
Will test it out and report back. I was able to snag for $95 so couldn’t pass up. Made in Taiwan. Not sure if nowadays Craftsman is Taiwan only or also some China stuff.

Think I liked Horrible Freight better when they were Not offering as many deals and coupons.

Sunday... remembered my crummy zip ties this time. Actually like my 2pk $12 generic pliers racks on Amazon more than these. USG are heavier metal and hold one more pliers. But that makes All the slots narrower.

Wow, great price.

Interested in the fit for on bolts (open ended wrenches) The open-ended overdrive wrenches are really tight to the bolt. The wright tool (my favorite) go on very easily.

Again, nice score.

They are indexed a bit differently (I don’t even notice till the post). They look worse in the picture. I could have took more time to line up the logos. In person they are much closer.

Exactly - most of the tools are made in Taiwan. Many of the pliers seem to be made in Germany. They're mirror chromed to give them a bit of a Snap On look. Though for the money I'd rather buy a Japanese made tool - I thought it was a little curious that Factory Gear's house brand was made outside Japan.

So this one was a bit of a surprise. I posted a picture of my Montezuma 30”x19” box on a giveaway post on the Montezuma Facebook group not even knowing what the prize was. Got a message a couple days later that I had won and this showed up today.

IMG_8042.jpeg

Not really sure what I’ll do with it. It doesn’t really fill a need in my shop or function well enough to keep in the truck. I may gift it to my buddy or one of my nephews. Either way it was cool to win something for once!

Now that is a great box! While I feel the same as you about it for personal usage, I could imagine it as the perfect box for quite a few of my friends who just need very few assorted tools and a drill/driver for the most basic home and mom/dad use (kid’s bike, toys, furniture, garden …). Very neat solution to sit on a shelf in a garage or basement with absolutely no clutter or being ‘overkill’, and when no designated ‘work space’ exists because it isn’t needed.

Thanks for showing this, I didn’t even know it existed. Now I know what I will recommend when asked by one of them for a couple of tools and a box for the most basic home needs.

Really, really cool!

Kind regards,
Olli

Picked these up on Sunday. HF lug nut socket set and the free paint brush with appropriate coupons.

Craftsman 3/8” socket extention set along with 2 Craftsman 6way screwdrivers. All three were in clearance. YMMV at Lowe’s as usual.

extension set was $9.98
Screwdriver was. $2.37

I had already put the paint brush and one screwdriver in the shed.

It’s been mentioned on GJ at least a few times in the past, that the Deen Tools were made in Taiwan, despite being from a Japanese company.
The problem, is that you would gave to go reference a whole bunch of posts, or read thru entire fairly long threads like the “Tools From the Old World” thread, to find the mentions of it.

As for Google AI, it routinely gives inaccurate information, and is less functional than Google from 15+ years ago.

That would be a perfect box for the house with basic tools. No need to run to the garage, just walk to the house box.

Another photography tool:

54369863959_315830962d_b.jpg

A real, high-output continuous light source, made for photography! The lumens rating is ridiculous (18,600 @ 1m), but, at 100%, it pretty well out-shines daylight coming through a window.

With just that reflector, it's pretty harsh:

54369652411_80cb39973f_b.jpg

Look at the shadows to see what I mean by "harsh". That has some uses, but I'll mainly be using this for ad shots of the food specials at the pub, so more diffuse is more better.

A larger reflector:

54370052085_32e06382ff_b.jpg

The light is considerably more spread-out, but the shadows are still harsh.

With a two-layer white diffuser in the big reflector, making it a "softbox":

54369863989_a7863f8d45_b.jpg

That's more like it! Notice how the shadows are almost gone.

I'll be trying this for real in about an hour....

I've been shooting stuff like this with improvised continuous lights, natural light or strobes for too long. It's nice to have the right tool for the job!

Strobes are great and highly versatile, but continuous light is WYSIWYG. Much easier. The new ultra-high output, full spectrum, ultra-high CRI lights are a blessing. Using continuous lights used to be torture--they were called "hot lights" for a reason. Anything bright enough to be useful was hot enough to cook your subjects.

Called the snap on rep to see where he was to meet up and he was on his way out of town. I told him I needed to meet with him for something so he stopped his truck and waited for me to get there. I needed an e5 Torx socket and luckily he had one blue point left so I grabbed it. Decided to grab a t72 since he stopped his route for me. Didn’t realize I would need e-torx stuff for older gm stuff. Gonna change out the starter on the ranch truck soon.

Does GODOX use a proprietary flange? Is it actually cool to the touch. Seems ideal.

No. It's a standard Bowen flange mount and stand.

The light was only on for fifteen minutes or so at a time, at 100%, and stayed perfectly cool to the touch. The LED has a huge heat sink and the light incorporates a near-silent rear-discharge cooling fan.

The model I bought--SL 60IID--is not light-color-adjustable, It's fixed 5,600K. A few more bucks will get you the adjustable light-color model. Brightness is very finely adjustable.

It was also $200 for the light, stand, reflector and softbox! That's like the price of two Snap On 10mm sockets!

Never thought I’d be reading about photography in a tool thread:ROFLMAO:

I got into it for a while, but did mostly automotive and wildlife. Sony a7r5 with the Sony 200-600 was my favorite setup and brought me so much happiness. I would just drive wherever a gravel road took me in search of stuff to photograph.

This white ibis and crab went a few rounds before the crab met it’s fate.

For some reason, I just find this little box cool.

So I did a little searching and found it is a Montezuma box. If anyone is interested, here's a link to the website.

I bought a pair of Sunex 1/4" drive magnetic sockets from Amazon, around $6.50 each.

On the left is the 1/4" socket, made in China.
On the right is the 9/32" socket, made in Taiwan.
The 1/4" socket has a magnet so deeply recessed (4.95mm deep) that it has only a weak hold on a short #10 hex-washer-head sheet metal screw. I am not a fan of the made in China socket. The 9/32" socket has the magnet recessed at a more shallow 3.30mm, same as my Sunex metric sockets in the smaller sizes such as 6mm.

DSC02497.JPG

Today I used the made-in-China 1/4" Sunex magnetic socket once, to hold a 1" long hex bit, and the magnet popped out. (n)

Some goodies from Snappy. An 8pt 3/4” socket for the handles on one set of vises I use at work. And then I ordered the new long flexible flashlight. Planning to use this bad boy when I’m touching off my tools after set-ups. I’m thinking I’ll put it on the turret guard so it will be away from the spindle but still cast some good lighting.

Snappy is becoming my go to for tool trucks. Haven’t seen Matco in months and still haven’t had a chance to get on the MAC truck more than once due to his schedule. My co-workers give so much **** for buying Snap-on and tool truck stuff but then they all are over by me borrowing all my tools. It’s starting to get annoying which is saying something cause I’m usually a patient dude willing to lend stuff out. But when I’m constantly getting grief about it but then they are all looking for them in my box, it’s really grating. Major props to my driver, he is a cool dude.
