A neat, older intermediate box I got off evilBay. $125 shipped.
I've been looking for awhile on craigslist and evilBay for a good older drill press, just because I like older machine and older stuff is where the quality is at anyway it seems but I've had no luck. And since I've been needing a bigger drill press for awhile (as in, projects are on hold, needing) I just figured I would go out and get a new one. $288 with tax from Lowe's. I measured .002" runout at the spindle after installing it. .001" runout on the shank of a drill bit after installing the chuck (odd I thought). I drilled a hole in a leaf spring leaf with a .265" bit then measured it with a small bore gauge and it measured at .267", so for the most part I'm happy with the press. The things I don't like so far in the 3 hours I've owned it: the power cord length (6ft too short), the length of the 'flex conduit' or whatever it is that the light is mounted on (3 inches too short), and the top bearing in the motor makes noise when the belts are tensioned (this is my biggest peeve). This appears to cause the pulley cassette on the motor shaft to shake ever so slightly, or at least when the top pulley (most leverage on the bearing) is the one being used. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about this yet.
And a 'shipping distressed' Baldor grinder stand I got off evilBay for $128 shipped. You can see the damage in the second picture. It was purchased this way, that's why it was so much under MSRP. I asked them to send that broken corner piece if they had it but no luck. I'm still really happy with it.
