when I was a professional technician, I had used 1/4 and 1/2 inch mainly, with 3/8 being least used. I did have a 1/2 inch Elora flex head ratchet, and used it all the time. Others included Hazet Composite 1/2 inch, Hazet 1/4 pear head and Snap-on 1/4 round head that pivots to a screwdriver.
Now I leisurely work on my own car, and no longer on the floor professionally, I am exploring more 3/8 options, and the flex head once again rules the roost. Not the notched flexheads, I hate those.
The Williams reminded me why I hated my Snap-On F936 3/8 ratchet and probably why I didn't use 3/8 as much. I can't decide between the F80 and the Koken...they're both really good.
The Koken feels like it is mounted on roller bearings and exhibits no resistance whatsoever to the ratcheting mechanism, I really wished I knew about this ratchet when I was on the tools, the ratcheting sound is exceptionally reassuring.
The Snap-On, wow...I would have a much higher respect for Snap-On if this was around back in my day, and not the awful 936 ratchets - worst 3/8 ratchet I have ever used, and the Williams flexhead is no different and reminds me why I felt that way.
I feel like an apprentice all over again since finding out about garage journal and rebuilding my professional tool collection with modern stuff.
