Getting harder and harder to find American Made tools - even from major U.S. tool makers. The battery and maybe charger I could see being made in Asia, but the whole thing? Sign of the times I guess...

Milwaukee is not even an American company anymore, they're owned by a Chinese super conglomerate. This isn't anything new, you have to go back 15-20 years to really find USA made power tools. Honestly, I don't see why it even matters. Power tools on the market now are better than ever, regardless of COO.

True dat.....I love American made tools and will support American manufacturing whenever I can however cordless power tools are not one of the instances where I find that possible. Other times it is that cost vs. value vs. frequency of use makes a solid import option the best option. Sunex and Gearwrench come to mind.

Not really an arrival but something I built for brake drums on semis that are really seized on

Not a bad idea, I remember a couple times having to smash the **** out of them with the sledge hammer until they cracked almost in half to get them off. This would definitely come in handy

I hope to find a struggling, in debt mechanic one day and purchase one of these from him!
How much are these new? They have always appealed to me.

Bahco makes them and Snap On rebrands it. Go look on ToolsDelivered.com for pricing. I watched a toolbox tour video on YouTube where the guy compared the two and the Snap On pliers had "Bahco" forged right in the handle.

Right - I'd say they are somewhere between vise grips and a pipe wrench. The harder you pull, the stronger they bite in. I bought the medium sized pair first and had if for a year or so and finally decided to get the big ones.

I have the medium and large one, used it to unscrew hydraulic cylinder end to reseal. They are awesome.

SEMA 2016 Knipex freebie, a 10 inch pair of quickset cobra pliers.

Knipex gave out 200 of something each day of the show at 1400 daily. Tuesday was Black Knipex Ball Caps, Wednesday was a 6 inch pair of Alligator pliers, Thursday was the quickset Cobras, and I don't know what was Friday's
because I was driving home.

Knipex has had the best freebies for two years in a row. They also had knowlegable people working the booth that would demo their tools & answer questions:thumbup:

Got a gearwrench 1/4 off of eBay really cheap. The comfort grip handle was well done for and luckily I had a green snap on grip laying around. I soaked it it boiling water but it was still a little tight. It got a little dis figured because it was so tight and I was pounding. Oh well atleast it didn't crack. Took it back off and drilled it out slightly and it went on perfect. Also took apart the head and greased it.

Also picked up a harbor freight 8" bench grinder. These ones seem to have great reviews and I have been looking for a USA one cheap that had good power on Craigslist with no luck so I got this. It runs nice and doesn't bog down.

The tool rests are a little on the thin side and of course I had to remove the stickers lol

Finally got my blue pearls! I'm thankful Snap On brought this color back for a few things, I wish they would bring the ratchet set back too. I should have bought them when I saw them on the SO truck back in 94.

Nice, I just picked up a newer one of those a few weeks ago. Yours is in much better condition though.
I'd love to see pictures of it, and thank you sir! Admittedly I probably over paid for it at $50 but I have a thing for SK tools, plus I got it loaded up today and it fits my needs perfectly so I'm happy. I can't find any solid info on the date from the logo the closest I have found is a company that sells repop logos that claims 1930-1940s. But with the condition it's in I won't dare touch it.

See post 6413 on the vintage toolbox thread, it's pretty rough but is solid.

Also picked up an older larger box a few months ago, pics on post # 6140 of the vintage tool box thread

Here are my tool purchases from the last few weeks:

McMaster-Carr:

Wera Standard Hex Plus Hex Key Set (Made in Czech Republic)

Compared to regular hex keys, Wera (Facom has a similar technology) has a patented technology called Hex Plus. Hex Plus has concave edges on the flat edges of the hex keys to prevent rounding on the interior of hex bolts. The below picture compares a Dewalt 5/16" hex key on the left to a Wera 5/16" hex key on the right. The Dewalt has noticeably straight flat edges on the hex key flat edges compared to the Wera.

Milbar Mini External Snap Ring Pliers (Made in the U.S.)

Moody Tools Miniature Screw Extractor Set (Made in the U.S.)

Local Industrial Tool Supply:

Wiha Tools Polyester Canvas Pouch (Model# 91118; Made in China)

This is the second one I own. They are high quality despite the COO. The first one I use to store my high-end mini flat and Phillips screwdrivers. This one I purchased to store the above Moody Tools miniature screw extractors and possibly other mini screwdrivers.

HomeDepot.com:

I took advantage of last month's online only $10 off $100 promotion. I purchased the below Knipex pliers.

Knipex Pipe Gripping Pliers (Made in Germany)

Knipex 12 Inch S-Shape Pipe Wrench (Made in Germany)

The reasons the I purchased the Knipex Swedish style pipe wrench were due to its advanced tooth and jaw features. It will come in handy down the road in plumbing and automotive suspension repair situations. You can read about these features here: HomeDepot.

and got this Proto 3/4" drive socket set with drive tools and case for $300 from a coworker..... He barely even touched any of the sockets.

Today I picked up an NOS Danaher made Husky 3/8" torque wrench to go along with it's bigger brother that I picked up last year or so. I've been extremely happy with the big 1/2" that I had to have the 3/8" assuming it's the same quality and accuracy. As you know the Husky torque wrenches have all gone to China now so the USA made ones are few and far between anymore. The accuracy check paperwork was done mid-2014. These are identical to the Matco torque wrenches, at least the ones two years ago. I wish I come across a US made 1/4" torque wrench but the only ones on the peg were Chinese and Taiwanese.

I've used Taiwan made HF torque wrenches over the years and have had very consistent results from all of them. I've tweaked a couple of them once in a while when doing accuracy checks but we're talking about them being 2% or less off prior to adjusting them. People bad mouth the HF torque wrenches but they are by far the best value, meaning quality for the buck. They're no CDI or PI of course, but we're talking 1/10 of the price. I still use the HF 1/4" clicker and have proved it to be very very accurate time and time again. I'll probably look into a 1/4" dial torque wrench for rear end work. That will be fine to use for the other somewhat rare in-lb work that I do, mainly in valve trains and pan bolts.

Finally got me a new long handle 3/8 SK 45179... I've been in need of the extra torque for years now so it's good to know I'll have it when the time comes. It's a real beauty. Now I can see why these SK designs haven't undergone many upgrades over the years. There's a certain "suredness" you can feel when you hold it. Here it is alongside a 45170 I recently picked up off eBay and my old (practically stubby!) Craftsman. I can't wait to wrench with my SKs!!!

attachment.php

I picked up my 45179 from Circle County Supply in Bazine, Kansas. They sure look like a small family-run business from all the way over here in NYC! http://www.circlecsupply.com/about.html My order was processed quickly, shipping was quick, too. My package arrived in three days. And, they know how to wrap their ratchets...

This is how my ratchet arrived...
attachment.php

I'm going to definitely keep an eye on them from here on out.
