If you do any woodworking, you will appreciate the straight edges. Look for a 24" as that's also a very convenient size, probably the one I use most. Depends on the size of what you're working on. Superb for checking a rectangle you've laid out for cutting, or just assembled, to see if it's squared up properly.

i have 12" & 18" starrett combo sets, 12" CM and a couple 4" & 6" combo squares.
i keep the starrett stuff in the basement, wanted something inexpensive to keep in the garage, so when i need it out there it's already there.
seems like a cut a lot of galvanized tin for the wifes "projects" so having a 48" straightedge "on hand" will be nice, and for $8 it was a no brainer.
