Noticed new magnetic organizer trays. A little spendy, but figured I would give one a try. The magnets at the bottom of each tray are surprisingly strong; the magnets are probably why this is $35
Lol. Most of that price is almost certainly the logo, not the magnets. Not surprised it works well, anyway.

WrightGrip Wrenches, 7-22mm. Chrome is great, all but one wrench is straight as an arrow, and the price was good (138 dollars) as its a rather complete set, but I'm a little underwhelmed, and its my own fault. They're a little shorter than I expected, I knew they are not long pattern, just thought they might be a tad longer, anyway as such the beams look rather beefy. Should I return them and buy proper long pattern wrenches (Carlyle or...snap on I guess?) or should I use them? I know they should/would be a pleasure to use, but I suppose I don't really know until I use them, and I wouldn't wanna return something at that point. My long pattern gearwrench wrenches have served me well, but needed a second set so I could keep these at home.

Straight from SK headquarters in Sycamore,, Illinois via Fedex and SK's 30% off holiday sale is a 80180 1/4 drive 90 tooth ratchet. First impressions is that it's a nice little ratchet. U.S.A. is stamped on the top of its head to keep the COO Police happy, it also has an R for righty tighty and an L for lefty loosey by the selector switch for those that are directionally challenged. I have to say though that the dull gray direction switch is pretty FUGLY against the chrome of the ratchet body but, i guess the green switch from the first 3/8 run was too expensive. Grease, Grime, and use might make it look better, yeah, no.

I think the SK sale runs until Monday. There's also Epstein's so get some SKness for the Holidays.

I needed stubby wrenches and a set of standard wrenches. Didn't wanna spend SO money like I did for my metric sets. I went with Tekton.

Those sure are pretty.

I made an Excel Spreadsheet and put the lengths in for the brands I was interested in. I compared SK, Stahwille, TOPTUL, Wright, and Gedore, both standard and long length where applicable.. I entered the lengths for 8, 10, 13, 17 and 19mm. Then I did an average length from those 5 values. SK Standards were the shortest, Gedore 7XL were the longest. Wright was right in the middle. It was the longest standard wrench.

My go to wrench in my box are my Craftsman Professionals, which I believe were made by SK and are long pattern. If I were buying new I think I'd get the Gedore 7XL.

Pleasantly surprised with the fit and finish for a $17 set of pliers from tekton in 16". Even more surprised with the USA designation, for the price.

Thanks! They are nice wrenches and I guess should serve me well, glad to hear the Wright are in the middle length wise, it certainly could be worse. If I need long pattern wrenches I'll just buy some long offset and/or double box end wrenches I suppose.

The Gedore 7XL look really nice, maybe a bit more than I wanted to spend but if I ever upgrade I'll keep those in mind too!

The word on the street is that with Wright's beefy beam profile, you're able to pull on them harder without having to suffer the pain of the beam cutting into your hand.

I happen to think that with Wright's beam profile, they'd totally dominate the wrench market if they were to ever produce a long pattern.

I haven’t need to use my Wright’s much, as I try to keep them only for the “oh, God I hope this comes loose” situations and so far they’ve surprised me in a good way. Pulling the Loctited recoil spring cap on a well used ***** shotgun for the first time in 20 years was the big test. That open end grabbed on the flats and never slipped and the cap came right out. Couldn’t believe it.

I kinda like thinner beams, more aesthetically pleasing but I agree, its probably better, and if these where long pattern I would be in love. I'm excited to use them, but again a little underwhelmed due to my own fault, but alas! Waiting on a nice ernst wrench rack to arrive tomorrow and then they'll be ready for use

Have you ever tried a Snap-on combination wrench? They have a thin wide beam profile. Not great for pulling on without gloves, but excellent for flipping around in your hands.

My numbers for the averages were:

Wright 192.4
Stahlwille 14 202
Toptul Long 210.4
SK Long 213.2
SK X-Frame 219.2
Gedore 7XL 235

I didn't include SnapOn or any truck brands as they aren't on my radar.

The Gedores are affordable if you buy from Amazon Germany.

Yeah used them tons of my previous job before we moved them outta the truck and went back to something cheaper. Misplacing one was never fun :D

I like them, just didn't feel like dropping that much money at the moment and know there are quality alternatives out there. Here's hoping these are one of them!

I added some more items to my Xcelite collection:

First off, a PS-88 and a PS-120 convertible screwdriver / nutdriver set (plus a couple extra little drivers). I didn't care for the cases though. So I found a small metal case from a socket set that fits them perfectly:

I also picked up a 99PS-50 and 99PS-40 screwdriver / nutdriver / hex set:

And I finally completed my "long nutdriver" set, buying them one at a time here and there. I couldn't find a USA-made L12 in good shape, so I gave up and ordered a chinese one off amazon:

And one more oddball that I just had to have- a NOS super-long 1/4" magnetic nutdriver. They only made these in two sizes, 1/4 and 5/16. Someday I hope to find the other:

New (to me) Matco AFR128LFM 13.75" 1/4" ratchet. A bit longer than the TLLF72.

Slightly beefier ratchet and some adapters.

My Thanksgiving weekend order from KC Tools finally showed up last week and very glad I grabbed the pliers wrench as it was a great deal at $32. Still waiting for a back ordered Gedore bottle opener.

One 3/8 drive Westward ratchet (free from a coworker who had cleaned out some old truck) and a 1/2 Allen (key, wrench, driver?) ordered from Amazon for $2.99. It's probably not the highest qulaity but for the 2 times a year I will need it I'm sure it will be fine.

Picked this up off E bay for about $43 including shipping. These old porter cable tools are made in USA and some feel are on par if not better than their counterparts from Milwaukee. They are getting harder to find, and of course Stanley Black and Decker is not supporting the pre merger tools parts wise so we’ll see what shape she’s in on arrival and then try to rebuild her back to better condition, replacing the worn out parts that are still available.

Would you mind sharing where you found that set for $138? I've almost bought that set several times this week, but haven't seem any deals that good.

Thanks

If you're in no hurry wait for a 15% or 20% off Ebay coupon, only had 10% off when I bought mine and they seem to give them out every week or two.

Speaking of which, just found an ebay code today, use code PICKUPSALE for 15% off, comes to 130 dollars, cheaper than I grabbed them for even! Good luck and enjoy!

Guess now I gotta get Mid torque with this coupon, or maybe screwdrivers...hmm.

A Snap On F830 3/8 ratchet with 17mm socket, and an incomplete KRA-229 1/4 socket set missing the ratchet and small adapter I believe. Wasn't looking for these, but couldn't pass up the deal.

I use spring clamps to hold my tape measures at work and I had to dig to find US made Pony and CH Hanson clamps. Bessey is just a name at this point

I need to stop looking at them Home Cheapo daily ads! Another red tool to go with all of the others. This is my first 12v though. It's smaller and much lighter than its big 18v brother, non Fuel.
