Christmas tools. Thanks mom and dad 😁. I asked for hearing protection because hammers hitting metal is certainly not quiet at work. Then the rest of the stuff I said get whatever cause I like all tools lol. They keep apologizing because they wanted to get me batteries for my Milwaukee stuff but they couldn’t find any I told them it’s alright. I definitely can put the screw extractors to use. The flashlight for the small one has a belt holder which is really hard to find on most so I’ll be using that one at work the big one will probably stay at home. I’ll probably get more throughout the day but we will see because still have two other places to do Christmas at.

Got this a few days ago. Read about ratcheting screwdrivers in GJ and never tried one. Price, $10.97, seemed reasonable. It feels good in hand and the magnet in the bit holder is strong. Seems to be smooth and have low back drag. Plastic bit holder will keep them organized in the handle. I think I'm going to enjoy using it. Made in Taiwan.20211225_133610.jpg

My Christmas present from my 2 little brothers. I actually asked for these, had nothing else currently on my wish list, & I'd probably never buy these myself. Even though I asked for these it was kind of a surprise. My brother told me Lowes cancelled the order saying they are backordered even though the website says in stock & available for pick up or delivery. So I thought I wasn't getting them. Turns out they ordered them from Ace Hardware. Came from Ace in a huge box & that's what my brothers wrapped so I totally did not expect the ratchets to be in the box.

I'm so over Craftsman & I'm not a fan of any of the new SB&D Craftsman stuff (sorry Blake TCG & others :)). I certainly don't need anymore ratchets. The thick & sealed heads were a turn off for me. But I love single diagonal knurling as I machine that knurling myself on stuff that I make. So basically I just liked the look of these & is why I wanted them. They are fine tooth though, not sure how many, haven't looked it up yet.

Surprisingly I also don't have any decent 1/2" drive ratchets since I rarely use em, I only own an old Husky USA 1/2" & a HF 1/2" extendable ratchet. My 1/2" sockets get used only with impacts & breaker bars or an adapter with a 3/8" ratchet.

Let me know your opinion, I have it in my basket for a long time, (the price is what drives me back, although if I buy it in the US the price is quite good even paying the shipping, it would be half of what I it would cost here in Spain).
It seems decent.

I would pull the trigger at the current price.

Those look nice. I just can’t bring myself to buy them for the prices they want. Now all my ratchets that I buy are Snap-on and Capri. I still use my Craftsman gunmetal with my oil filter claw to pull off oil filters sometimes. If I received them as a gift absolutely I’d use them lol.

Blake those extractors work pretty good, they've saved me a few times, I find the trick is to turn the drill slow and start small. One of my uncle's bought them while drunk off tv commercial and my other uncle and I made fun of him, I had a stripped screw in a piece of trim on a 55 Chevy and we tried it, we vowed never to let him know that they saved us lol

Yup I hear ya, that's one of the reasons why I have no interest in SB&D Craftsman, their prices, but there are other reasons too. But I like these & I'm happy to own them since they were a gift and didn't cost me my own money. :ROFLMAO:

All my ratchets are Snap-On & Matco but mostly from the early 2000s. I don't even own any Sears Craftsman ratchets. Earlier this year I did treat myself to a couple of Nepros ratchets for my bday but those things are so pretty I'm still afraid to use them. Lol. Maybe next year.

Presents I steered people toward this year:
Slide hammer - I hope it will help with the rear bearings on the Explorer - we will see.
6" pipe wrench - useful for a lot of things but particularly for pulling studs. Better grip than vice grips.
Precision screwdriver - a responsibility at work could make this very handy.
Tire irons - need new tires on the mower and the motorcycle - we will see how that turns out but I've got a little better chance now.

Ridgid 18v 5" Random orbital. My 10+ year old Skil brand corded one crapped out on me three days ago and the wife picked this up for me off of Ama. I finished sanding my garage cabinet doors with the help of a cheap oscillating tool and at one point a 4.5" angle grinder flap disc.

Santa (wife) took really good care of me this Christmas with a new Klein tradesman pro 14 pocket tool pouch bag. Pretty excited about it.

Thank you!

First ones are titanium ice picks that I used to make & sell.

Second one is a spear or javelin or .... the name will come later, a one off that someone contacted me & asked to make from them. All he requested was that it be titanium, around 30" long, & sharp. This is what I came up with. I decided to make it 2 pieces that threads together to give it more purpose. The blotchy looking tip, as well as on my ice pics, is carbidizing that I added to give it a bit of extra wear resistance (in theory). The owner seemed to be very happy with what I made for him, I never asked what he wanted it for but after he received it he told me, "in case you were wondering, it's for killing zombies". So I then started calling it the Zombie Killing Spear.

I used to sell them for just under $100 ea. But that was years ago when material costs were cheaper & I made multiples at a time. Haven't made any in some years except for the two in post 55811. Those I made a lil over a year ago & were gifts. Actually, I haven't really made anything since before the pandemic hit & now that I have much less free time now. :(

They're about 10" OAL, the handle is 3/4"Ƙ & 4" long. "Blade" is 5/16"Ƙ. The ones in post 55811 are smaller though since I made them for an old/ex lady friend that has small hands.

Christmas was a bit scaled back this year, just the wife and I exchanging gifts, but I think I made out pretty well:

PXL_20211225_050434680.jpg

  • 4" vise stop by OP STOP (Made in USA)
  • 25' x 1" measuring tape by Fisco (Made in the UK)
  • Starrett 70A pocket scriber (Made in USA)
  • NWS 125-62-160 6.25" round nose pliers (Made in Germany)
  • CTA coarse rethreading dies (Made in USA)
  • PICA 3030 pencil (Made in Germany)
  • Bondus Torx keys (Made in USA)

I'm pretty happy with most of this, with the noted exception of the NWS pliers.

As I've seen reported in a few threads, including here and here, these came with an extraordinary amount of swarf/grit inside the joint, to the point where the pliers would bind up. The rough, gritty motion and the crunching/scraping sounds it makes when you open and close them was embarrassingly bad. I spent about an hour trying to get them adequately cleaned out, but they're still not to the point where I can bring myself to use them without being really annoyed. The tips don't even remotely line up either, not that it really matters in this application, but it almost feels like salt in the wound.

Sorry to say but if you pay a premium to have a tool you'll enjoy using, it shouldn't feel (and sound) like there's coarse sandpaper in the joints. I won't bother my wife by asking her to return these, they're just going in the trash where they belong. My other NWS pliers have all been flawless, so I'll just re-order another pair later on and hopefully not get another QC failure. Embarrassing that they let this one out the door though.

On a positive note, for those who might be curious, here's the vise stop installed on a 4" Enco:

PXL_20211226_001455409.jpg

I got this vise along with one of my vintage Craftsman drill presses as a freebie. The vise isn't anywhere near Kurt quality, made in India in fact, but it's still built like a tank and more than adequate for anything I'd be doing. I certainly couldn't toss it, so figured cleaning it up and accessorizing was the next best thing. Still need to get a replacement for the missing jaw, but that's next on the list along with some different types of jaws.

Don't know why but I love those Pica pencils, just bought 2 more not too long ago. Not that it matters but I noticed they changed the design a bit from the 1st one have (just cosmetic though).

I also got their long reach markers too & use them quite often. Just wish they were a bit finer point though.

Good deal on batteries, actually cheaper than Black Friday. I pretty much use 2 and 4 amp batteries in the shop and can always use more. The 8 will work great for the wife in the weed trimmer and leaf blower. She can have her own battery and charger and quit stealing mine. And she can't say I didn't get her anything for Xmas lol.

New tools today from Lowe’s. The socket rail and the fold up nut drivers are dads he bought for his truck. I bought the rest of it. The oil filter claw is a Christmas present for my coworker Batman he has wanted one and been using mine. I figured since I bought my boss a $67 flashlight that I better buy him a $14 oil filter claw lol šŸ˜‚. I had originally went in just to get Chinese fingers in the first picture but they had the whole set with the magnet and mirror for $1 more than just them by themselves so I said what the heck for a dollar more it’s crazy not to get the whole set. Then I got an extension I was going to buy one from Snap-on but I can’t see paying that much for it when I’ve had good luck with extensions from Craftsman and other brands before. Then the tape measure something I never thought I’d need in automotive but have needed a ton over the past few weeks so I’ve been borrowing one. They had the Kobalt on sale for $10 the Craftsman one of the same size was $20 so I got Kobalt. Then the wire brushes will come in handy mine were worn out about 2 years ago lol. I could of probably gotten them somewhere like Harbor Freight cheaper but I was at Lowes and Harbor Freight closes at 6 on Sunday. So yeah I’ll have lots of new tools to show up with tomorrow at work. People might think I’m Santa going to give out presents LOL.

I'm a huge fan of those Wiha dead blows and I'm surprised that they aren't more popular on GJ. I bought mine ~10 years ago and they were made in Germany. I think I have 30, 40, 50, 60mm.

Does anyone know if Wiha makes these?
