Copied/pasted from another thread:
So I've been involved with a construction project from hell (currently in arbitration if that helps explain things). And I've been without my garage for nearly two years.
All my tools are in a storage unit two miles away. Inconvenient. So a lot of my tools are sitting in the corner of my bedroom and for the past two years I've been buying new tools or upgrades to the tool set I have. In the late 80s I bought the classic Craftsman (USA) mechanic set. I've added to it here and there but for the most part it has served me, and my moderate DIYing, very well.
These are my new to me tools over the course of the past year or so. Most of them are being used, out of my bedroom and on the street, but a couple of them haven't been put to use yet.
I'd love to buy the best stuff out there but there is literally no justification. I'll spoil myself here and there but for the most part I know my lane: "good enough" is fine by me. I try to find that line between good quality and affordability.
I, like many, have landed on Tekton. Their customer service and no questions asked warranty is a huge bonus for me.
Like I said, the Craftsman (USA) have served me well and probably can for another three decades but I want to get new sockets. So I bought the 3/8 socket set. There was a promotion when they first came out and I got them for $145.
I also bought a variety of extensions (fixed) that supplement the extensions that came in the 3/8 set and to eventually supplement the 1/2 and 1/4 sets I'll pick up. Pretty nice knurling I must say.
Also bought the USA pry bar set and starting my mini pliers build out.
And a few mini pliers to start that build out.
Also bought their 16 pc hard handle screw driver set. Originally I bought their sampler pack of high torque and hard handle P2 screwdrivers so I can get a feel for them, test them out/use them, etc before making a decision on which set to buy. I really want to like the high torque handle but it feels so unnatural in my hand. I love the feel of the hard handle, very comfortable. And for as much as my Craftsman has treated me well I've always despised the feel of the handles of the screwdrivers and nut drivers. Brutal on my hand.
I can explain why I have four P2s... the high torque handle was part of the sampler set... which also came with one hard handle. The tip of that hard handle was rusty so they sent me another. Plus the one that came with the 16 pc set. It's ridiculous, I know.
Lastly I impulsed bought their new 3/8 comfort grip 11" flex head. I'm still getting a feel for flex head anything, especially ratchets. But the 90 tooth head/pawl feels really nice in the 3/8 set (which comes with a polished handle, very comfortable). But I have to say. I love the comfort grip Tekton designed. Not really oval, a little more squareness to it, and it feels amazing in my hand. So much so I just bought their 8" non-flex head.
