Just got the tray on clearance, I guess a new one is coming out and yellow isn’t offered. I’m waiting for Black Friday to purchase the 5 drawer cart also in yellow. Really excited! Also lucky that yellow (which I like) is the least popular color at my HF so they actually have the carts in stock.

Quick question though, do you guys recommend leaving the casters as is or swapping to all swivels?

I don't have that cart but I have always been much happier with all swivels on any of my roll-around tools.
The one exception is the base I built for the HF end cabinet. It goes under my drill press table and I made it pretty snug to the DP base so it doesn't stick out. I had to use fixed wheels on the back side so it would move in/out easily. It rarely moves so I'm fine with that.

I recommend that you double check the calibration of your new PI wrench. Both of mine were out of tolerance when new.

Normally I try to save exhaust studs and reuse them if possible, but the nuts are usually gone. Getting metric hardware is a chore locally, and the shop can't handle online ordering and stocking items. So I bought my own.

I know those yellow stickers, McMaster Carr. Reminds me, I need to order metric hardware

Don’t listen to anything I say because I’m just a DIYer and kind of an idiot…

….but I’ve had those PIs in my shopping list for a year and won’t pull the trigger on it because of that calibration issue combined with Tekton being cheaper, certified and if anything ever goes wrong with it…their warranty is second to none.

I like having protection on expensive items (and yes these would be an expensive purchase for me).

Thanks for the offer, seems silly of me not to test it, but since this seems like a common problem I’m just going to return it and get a Tekton. The Tekton is $10 cheaper. Amazon is great with returning things.

I had been wanting these for a while, but the price has been over 1K per set since mid summer. It dropped back down to a more reasonable price, and with the coupon, I was able to get both sets for a price I was willing to pay. I will probably never use the larger ones, but hey, this is the Garage Journal no judge zone.

It's been fine for me. My buddy who had it for a while was a BMW master tech and liked it a lot too.

I used a very similar one to do the top mounts on my wife’s mustang, it was a little disappointing - there was none of the excitement or feeling of danger you get with traditional spring clamps, it just safely compressed the spring.

The only issue is you may not have enough travel on the tool to compress longer springs, a buddy used it for the front springs on his bmw 530 and it wouldn’t compress the spring enough.

That's surprising. I've used mine on my wife's Honda Odyssey and my buddys Volvo XC90 with no issues.

This was about 4 or 5 years ago so not sure who made them as I traded them in on matco ones as soon as I could.

Yeah you gotta buy what's there, maybe you'll have good luck with them but living in the rust belt they couldn't take the pressure needed to break stuff loose.

Which ones are stronger proto? Or only snapon ?

Well fortunately this does have a happy ending (the story, not me . . . today). Despite the best efforts of Amazon's crack addled phalloncus in their shipping department it actually survived in one piece. By the looks of it I should be grateful it was in the box at all. Now to start planning a base for it.

Going back and looking through the paperwork and double checking on the website it would appear that my 11106 that I ordered for $89 is actually the Wilton model # 745 (21400). I'll take it!

How did the base turn out?
I did a dual setup I have limited space or I would do a nice heavy bench setup

w.hansen if you like the idea of "waffle grid" hose clamp pliers, Gearwrench and Proto were selling a Taiwanese version of that concept but with Vice Grip style pliers, which is much nicer with tough steel spring hose clamps.

Alas, this is too much money. Unless you really wanted hose squeezers, too:

I wanted a quality 1/4" drive to 1/4" bit holder socket. All I can ever find around here is the cheapie ones that come with "bit sets", and they are always kinda loose and floppy. I found that Snap-On makes one (TMBS8A), and it's magnetic. So I figured I'd give it a shot. I bought a used one:



It's not so much that I usually need to crank a bit with a ratchet, it's more that I'd like to use my 1/4" extensions and swivels to hit awkward screws. So I'll try this one out and hopefully it doesn't ****.

Picked up a Milwaukee 15GA Finish Nailer for some trim work projects I have to do. And found a deal on some new to me SO hex sockets and a right angle grinder. The grinder just needs cleaned up a little bit, but works like a champ.

I could have used one today to torque the hubs on my van to 25 inch pounds. The only torque tool I have that goes that low is 1/4" drive and the only 27mm sockets I have are 1/2" drive. I used a 1/4-3/8 and a 3/8-1/2 to git 'r done. When I get to my desk where my wallet is I will be ordering the Koken.

Exactly! Me, too. Econoline front axle (rwd) has (ahem ... now) old timey taper bearings and I'm busting out my wee-est 1/4" SK torque wrench (flex beam and needle and tic marks) to do that one by the book, but with a big danged socket. And two Craftsman adapters between them.

I have that same nailer. IME; there is nothing not to love about it. It’s one of my favorite M18s and I’ve had more than a few in many, many years
