I see lots of threads showing off tools around here, which are cool. But I want to see what neat places they go and what they work on. I will start.

I had a customer call me asking of there was anything I could do in a hurry with a hydraulic cylinder that would not go in or out "For some reason" and that he would bring it in once he got it off the machine. No problem I figure a quick packing job and off he goes.

This is what he brings me...

Now where the tools come in, Love taps and a pin wrench just was not doing it. So I used my big red wrench

Once I had it out, you can see how bad it was even in the gland, which needed a big love tap to come off.

So lets see come pictures of YOUR tools earning there keep!

As an agricultural engineer, I , quite often see cylinders in a similar shape. We usually get the local machine shop to make new rods for us. I like your stand for holding the cylinders. Will have to fab up something similar. We use a big vice to hold them or try and slacken the nut when it is still on the machine.

Sadly as a DIY'er I can't work and take pictures at the same time. The closest
thing I can offer is a pic of my right angle air die grinder I was using to clean
up the head of my dear Supra before I completely disassembled it.

When I help out in town I don't use my tools. A long with some other people's shops.

So at my shop this JD 4010 is the current project, ****** overhaul is why it is split.

This took me about 80 hours suburban to crewcab. I also built the trailer you see the Burbank on

This has been a long term driving project. Going to go through it's last stage this spring.

This was a fairly fun one. About 120 hours into it. I dont like height and color choice though. But it's not mine.

I run a machine shop right now, I have 5 lathes 2 mills 2 drill machines 2 presses and the hydraulic service table. I do a little of everything truck and trailer, heavy equipment, auto, marine, aviation, farm. Its a super job.

Yeah I have learned my lesson with women, go to bar then take her home to her place give fake name go to different bar next week. its easier that way.

If you want I can grab some pictures of it, it has a 4000psi pump on it for testing and we have a 50 gal tank we can hook up to it to check large systems as well as power up implements off machines. The best part is that it has side mounted cylinders so we can hook up the home made wrenchs and turn of rod nuts. any fluid left can run out and is caught in a catch system so no mess.

Do you run a service truck or are you a in house guy? What do you dislike working on the most? Mine would be manure spreaders...they never break down when there empty or on a day when there is no breeze.

DIY or PRO, either way it's hard to show the tools working....and most of the stuff I take pictures of for whatever reason, they are usually focused on the work, not so much the tools it takes to do it.....But I scanned through my work pics and came up with some:

3foot pry bar helping me install a Transfluid coupler on a big old Detroit:

Drilling truck frames - love this thing - it'll punch a big hole through in seconds:

Finished...oh, and mount tab welded to the truck body, too....

Damaged blower inlet from an exploding fan wheel. Don't see the tools much here - Miller mig and Plasma machines

Cut the cone out with the plasma:

New rolled cone to weld in.

Finished and ready to go back on the machine - saved the customer about $1000 by repairing it rather than buying whole cover ready to bolt on.

Sweeper stripped down for some major repairs - put the hydraulic lines / manifolds in "traction" from the ceiling to avoid disconnecting everything:

Going back together - assorted tools all over - 1/2 & 3/8 impacts guns, air drill, sockets and wrenches laying all over the subframe:

I could tell you some stories about working with Oklahoma's Geological Survey. Most of them involve copious amounts of alcohol in friendly one-horse towns.

Although I work in a heavy truck shop, the owner of our shop also owns a small trucking company which hauls gravel and feed in end dump trailers. This is what happens when half a load of distiller grains freezes in the trailer and you try and dump it next to a parked JD 4440. Needles to say it was way cheaper to buy a used cab and have me switch it over than to report to insurance.

In the second pic you can see my 36" SO pry bar against the tire.

Slow day at work, figured I could grab some pics. Here is some more of the cab. It is sitting crooked on the floor but this is how bad it was leaning on the tractor as well.

And here are some of my tools at work. First couple are working on the tractor using my home box as a cart until I take it home.

Not gonna lie. It is pretty sweet. When i first saw someone roll them under a truck to lift it i literally, out loud, scoffed. And then it lifted it no problems. And then they wanted me to get under it! Took me a lil while to get used to it.

Some day We might get another pair, but for now I can only lift up one end.....but we don't do chassis work - getting access underneath is usually just to run a hydraulic hose or get to wiring.....

I'm just a DIY'er. My tools have been getting a lot of use on my girlfriend's Beetle recently. I replaced the rear axle bushings, front strut mounts and control arm bushings. Unfortunately, there's still plenty of suspension clunks.

Nothing too fancy, just toning out some data cabling for a customer.
Notice the red Snap-on flathead! I replaced a Klein 1/4 inch with that and the difference is like night and day!
