Manufacturers are not always as clear as code but they often list circuit ampacity, minimum circuit amps and some list wire size and breaker,, and methods on occasion. Sometimes they use the word minimum when it should be recommended especially where it's a good idea to keep ocpd modest. Furnaces come to mind,,, air cond units often list wire and breaker, some cooking lists the min and the max circuit it may be connected to.
Someone more familiar with multiple motor circuit size can feel free to elaborate. Been a while since I read it and not sure how well I understand it anyway. I don't do a lot with it.
I would really have to study to pass a test if I could and lots of the real calculations are over my head,, don't really care anyway most of the time.

Thank you everyone for all of the help. No idea why you put up with me but thank you.

Today someone emailed me a copy of the original owner's manual/install instructions for the saw that has the 4hp motor in question. Seems crazy but pictures look like it came with a 2-20p.

I'm going to put a 14-50r on the wall then run soow to a disconnect and a 6-slot panel in the cabinet/bench thing I'm building that will house the saw. From there I can also do a power strip and a light.
