Hello everyone... I'm new to the forum. I'm not a professional mechanic or even close but I love tools and appreciate great quality. I prefer US made tools as most on this forum probably do, which leads me to my first post. Earlier today, I was using a brand new SK 5/16 12 point socket to install hex head masonry screws to mount a security cabinet. All was well for the first couple minutes and then I started slipping. At first I thought it was me so I made sure the socket was firmly seated on the bolt. Didn't make a difference and the bolt head was intact. So I inspected the socket and to my great disappointment it had stripped out. What's up with SK? So I used my trusty Craftsman USA 6 point set to finish the job. Recently I had seriously considered ordering the SK 48 piece 1/4 socket set but now I'm not so sure. I don't know when this particular SK socket in question was actually made. I've had it for a couple years but never used it. So it wasn't worn or damaged. All my other SK tools seem to be fine but this has really put a bad taste in my mouth... Especially when I've cranked the hell out of some Gearwrench tools and never had a problem! Ugh... Has China taken over the tool scene? Maybe I just need to gradually replace stuff with Snap-On. I can't afford to dump $30,000.00 in all Snap-On tools but all I hear is praise for them - never really heard any complaints. Anyway, sorry for being hyperverbal... I know it's a small matter but it makes me wonder about the big picture with SK and their quality. Ok, I'm done. Any feedback is definitely welcome!
