Did anyone else receive a Craftsman branded wrench? It is clearly made by SK but I found it odd considering that Craftsman now has these made by Apex (China). Perhaps old stock.

don't overlay a sk wrench over the cheaper china craftsman lobster claws. The open ends are pretty much the same size when I did it with the sk 20mm I got today.

I totally forgot about this but had a package waiting when I got home. Pretty nice to get a free wrench even though I've never had to use a 20mm in my life. I just wish we had a local dealer here who would honor there warranty and stocked there tools so I could pick up some loose impacts that walked away over the years using them.

I got my stuff today, I've always liked SK but they've earned my loyalty with this, definitely a top-notch resolution to what started out as a bit of a PR mess. Good one SK.

Ha! I got my package about an hour ago and couldn't wait to get on here to say I got mine! I was somewhat surprised that other folks got theirs today as well! I know these things are hit or miss...or so I've read. I've signed up for 2 items and have now received both.

I was closing down the house and found the SK box on the front porch. Got the black hat, wipes, catalog and 20 stubby wrench. The letter said the wrench for a sorry for the long delay due to the posting here! :) pro job on the letter and kit, definitely fixed the PR issue. I had already written it all off.

Well gents, whether ya'll like it or not, I contacted SK shortly after I posted in this thread and disagreed with most of you. I didn't recieve a response so I assumed that they didn't care.

I assumed that up until today. Today I walked back up the front steps and noticed a package on the porch. I called SK two days ago and ordered a 1/2" drive rebuild kit for my 1/2" 42470. That's what I thought the package contained. Boy was I wrong. The package felt a little light so I put it on the kitchen table and opened it up. Inside was the all black SK hat from this thread, and a two of their metalic toolbox stickers. I was blown out of the water because I didn't request any of it.

My wife asked me why I got it when I had ordered a rebuild kit. I didn't know, but after a minute I started to wonder if it was meant as a thank you for the heads up I gave them. (Even though they came through for you guys.)

I went to the computer, logged onto my e-mail and carefully scanned the list for a e-mail from SK. No dice. Then I wondered if it might have gotten flagged as spam. Sure enough, there it was.

So here is a direct copy/paste from my e-mail to here, from Lauren Hoth:

Good morning.

Thank you very much for your concern.

We are aware that there are several individuals that are taking advantage of this program that are not actually tech students.

Unfortunately many companies runs this risk when holding a marketing campaign.

Thank you again and I hope you have a great week!

Thank you,

Lauren Hoth

As I understand it the purpose of the free hat and catalog is for SK to gain more of the share of graduating auto-tech's from todays colleges.Unfortunatley, a bunch of people who have either never been to an auto-tech program, or who attended long ago are trying to obtain the hats by submitting false entries under the questions marked Instuctor and School on the submission form.I would much rather see your merchandise going to the aspiring auto-tech who is faced with a choice of dwindling domestic tool producers, or an increasing amount of outsourcing tool companies, rather than to a bunch of individuals who are concerned only with "getting theirs" regardless of the cost to the manufacturer, or the manufacturer's intent for the promotion. Here is the link to where this is taking place:http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=240505Thank You for your time,**** ********

The only parts I have redacted with a * symbol are parts which contain my personal information.

I urge everyone again, before signing up for something just to get something for free, think about what the true intent of the promotion was and who it was meant for. I think SK weighed their options and decided it was better to send the stuff out, regardless of being scammed, than take a PR hit for weeding out those that shouldn't have gotten the stuff in the first place.

Heck, we've got people complaining about the hat already!

If anyone thinks I'm the only one who thought that this promotion might not be for everyone, read back through the thread. Quite a few people expressed doubt at what was a legitimate entry in order to skirt the requirements.

If Epsteins had an free online promotion and all of it got scooped up by something like slickdeals.com ya'll would be raising hell over it. So what's the difference?

But who says we won't buy from them in the future? More so now that we've had such a great experience?

Last night as I was explaining the whole thing to my wife, and she said to keep the catalog out and circle what I want for my next gift, I'm due.

SK marketing knows what they're doing. Some may even call it the cost of doing business.

Yep. They didn't lose anything with that promotion. They're the ones that voluntarily added the wrench.

That is exactly right... They knew the whole time what they were doing. School kids do not have the disposable income that us older folks do... The residual sales from parents of the kids and associates were what they were aiming for... and by treating it the way they have, they got MORE than they would have ever gotten by just hitting the tech school kids. It is great that they are doing it for the new guys but all in all it is still a business and they have to make money.

I guarantee that my next major tool purchase will by SK.

Good job to their team with this whole promotion!

I'm looking at the web page http://www.skhandtool.com/choosewisely

Where is the indication on this web page that the offer is for tech students only?

Does the word "unfortunately" in Mrs. Hoth's e-mail not clue anyone in that this was not their intended goal?

The part you placed in bold is from HER response to me.

It seems that there are many members here who will do whatever it takes to justify dishonest actions. Your life, not mine.

I sent her an e-mail last night asking if I was sent the hat and toolbox stickers because I was trying to safeguard SK. She replied "Yes".

Is the initial e-mail she sent back to me so easy to dismiss? Does it provide no evidence that this promo wasn't meant for everyone?

Some of you think that this was a sneaky way for SK to drum up massive amounts of business. The way you describe their "supposed" manipulations of their advertising makes them sound like the same caliber of tool company that Craftsman is now-a-days. The kind that is willing to stoop to any level to attract a customer.

But they're NOT that kind of tool company. If they were that level of sneaky, they never would have dreamed of moving production BACK to the United States.

You can say they garnered more business. You can say that they profited by it. You can say whatever you want to. But the fact is that while SK not only has enough integrity to remain US made and sourced and GIVE you gents freebies you lied in order to get. You the customer have shown a lack of integrity. SK did-not-intend-this-for-everyone. Why are we trying to deny/justify lying? We all say that society is going down hill. Yet we won't do anything about it.

Honor, Courage, Commitment. The Marine Corps lives by it. Ya'll don't.

I don't remember having to fill out the school or instructor section.

It is required now, but was it always?

Why are we arguing over free ****. It seems that some cant be happy and go on rampages complaining to a generous company that people where abusing their giveaway. I'm sure there's plenty of people who aren't members who did the same that we all did. Just shut up and deal with it. The company's happy about what's going on and probably could careless. In the end it's all about marketing and this is clearly helping them! So shut up and move on.

Mine came last week. Whats not to like. This weekend I used the wipe they sent and am now on the hunt for a source to buy them from. Will probably buy something from them soon. Need to go through my stuff and see what needs upgrading.

The best part my wife just saw the box and thought it was books for her new business and ripped in to the box with excitement only to find a wrench, tool catalog and a hat:shocking: :lol_hitti

made my day

and yes they know what they are doing I can assure you my next wrench purchase will be SK.

wipes are are an awesome find. I can not wait to try those out

If S-K is/was offering a free hat and a free catalog in some attempt at trying to capture soon to graduate tech students, it is likely too little too late, since Snap-On has 50%-off discounts for tools to tech students just starting. By the time they are done, they are likely hooked.

When I filled out the survey, It didn't include the wrench, or hand wipe sample. all I really wanted was the catalog. I like printed tool catalogs.. and the SK catalog is great. listing dimensions of the tools, and great pics are a plus. I think most of us signed up with the intent to make a purchase, or several. SK is a hot topic right now, and rightfully so. I don't think SK is going to get hurt on this promotion..I think they will see a spike in sales due to getting the word out with a great promotional package. I would love to see how many they have sent out so far! On a side note, I decided to engrave a few new tools friday, including my SK 13/16 they sent me...the chrome on the SK is tough as nails!!

Wow. This feels pretty weird now. Seriously.

Why were we ratted on again? Because we took advantage of an offer for a hat and paper catalog? The same catalog available for free at any time? Because, that's all that was offered initially; the wrench and wipes were sent by SK on their own initiative, even though, as Ms. Hoth acknowledges, they know that not everyone signing up is a tech student.

This is bizarre and unpleasant. It feels to me like GJ's own version of the dolchstoss.

We've got momentum developing for an SK Day, and we have dozens of people taking notice of and developing a sense of fondness for SK that did not exist before or has been enhanced because of this, and we are to feel badly about it?

The world is eating a stack of **** sandwiches, and yet we are making an issue of how non-techs took advantage of a hole to get a hat and catalog, offered by a business seeking to earn business, the net result of which has been a positive buzz about the company and expressions of newly found loyalty to said company.

I'm at a loss.

Important question: is a customer service rep equipped to comment on what SK executives want to have happen in situations like this? Are they the strategic planners of the corporation, or folks trained to deal with customer concerns?

I didn't see anyone say what they did was "sneaky." It was, however, brilliant and effective.

What's this SK Day you speak of?

It's something I plan to pursue, as I think I mentioned in here somewhere. I have someone who can put me in touch with an SK representative, too. This representative apparently knows about and approves of GJ and the things we do here, like Epstein's Day and Wilde Wednesday.

So it's like a group buy kind of deal or a special for forum members? Sounds good, I haven't been around for too long but I'm about to start buying tools soon for my garage so I look forward to it.

I'm really loving this forum!!

Sk told me their distributors also offer student discounts. I'm not in school yet but I plan on trying it out when I start school.

When I plan these days, the main goal for me is always to support the company and to show them our appreciation for remaining high-quality USA manufacturers. So, I don't push for discounts.

Let's see how this plays out. Epstein's Day just happened, so I wouldn't try to roll out an SK Day for a while. Too many such days ruins the good vibes. In the meanwhile, I'll contact the rep and see if they are down with the idea.
