Does anybody in here have a good opinion on weather or not it's cost effective to rebuild a skid steer bucket. If I had to guess it'd be anywhere between 800-1200 depending on the side and build type.
The skid steer came to my house needing a few repairs on the machine and the owner wants to see if i can repair the bucket also. So for right now what I can see (bucket is off, on the ground while machine is being repaired) is the heel of the bucket is worn out/thin. There's a few cracks in the factory welds where the attach plate is welded to the bucket. He does a lot of remove/replace concrete work so it takes a beating and scraping asphalt is the equivalent to taking cheese to a grater.
If its just the bottom of the bucket and some wear strips I cant see it costing more than 500 bucks for materials.

About 20 years ago I built an entire bucket, except for the back, out of 3/32 abrasive resistant plate. I didn't have a plasma torch, so I had the plate cut to my dimensions, brought it home and welded it together to match the original bucket. Steel prices are higher now, so I'm not sure how it would dollar out these days.

V out the cracks & repair them. Hardface the wear areas. More than that and you will be into the cost of a good used bucket.

My new steel costs for hot rolled material is costing on average $.71/lb. without any cut charges. My experience with fixing worn out loader buckets is that after you are done with the repair you wonder why the hell didn't we just buy a new replacement one.

What is the size of bucket and capacity ?

I can't really read the capacity stamp anymore but it's only a 74" wide bucket and it's stamped LOPro. They're made "lopro" so you can see out over the bucket and look at the edge.

I made them toss in a Resloh Cutting edge on my Takeuchi as part of the purchase negotiation. I've never seen a cutting edge last 1/4 of what one of these will. But it also cost $1300. I know they said ouch when I threw that spit ball at em. lol

I say weld out the cracks and use it until you can find a good deal. I'd wait to find a good deal on a used bucket personally, but might opt for a new unit if it is for profitable business. No one has time to mess around fixing equipment mid job.

Helped the son in law out, he didn't have a lot of money so we just did what we could with his budget.4 hrs and I think $175 CAD in steel
