Skil Sander model 9 handle?

I recently came across an older Skil Belt Sander. The name plate says
Skil Sander Model 9, 8 amp.
It came from a lot that included lots of prewar era hand tools.
Does anyone have any idea how old this thing is?
It works like new but the back end of the handle is shattered, I insulated the exposed wires and taped up the handle well enough to test it.
The oil reservoir was full, and the belt like new.
It was found behind an old cabinet and apparently had fallen off the back of the cabinet down behind a section of wall between two additions in the basement.
Does anyone know where a handle for something like this can be found?
Any idea how old it may be?

Here's a few pics:

You will need to find a parts sander for the handle. I would repair what I have with JB Weld, build up to what I need.

The right side of the handle is fixable, the left side is missing more than 2" of the lower handle. When I found it, the wires were all bare and shorted, it had been this way for a long time but still being used. I have the bare wires taped up for now but its not safe to really use. The thing works great, it could use some cosmetic help but functions perfectly otherwise. If I had some of the pieces it would be easier to fix, or maybe even mold a new handle. I've seen quite a few newer models, mostly 449 models, but the handle on those is different and I'm not sure if the newer handle would fit or not.

Use epoxy to from the missing part of the handle as well as hold broken pieces together.
Cut,grind, sand, and texture as needed to make it look like it should be.
Use that repaired part to make a silicone mold. Once set up remove the part from the mold.
Then use the specific plastic type epoxies to fill the void in the old mold and make the new part.
Remove the new part and install on the belt sander.

The other way is to do the first steps to repair the part then have the 3D scanned and have a rapid prototype made

The original looks like Bakelite, under bright light its got sort of a root beer color.
I can make a mold, but am not sure what type of resin to make a handle from. Since it only attaches at two points, the handle has to be super strong.

I am wondering if a newer handle would fit? The switch style looks the same all the way up to the last model of these in the 80's or so. The most obvious change seems to be the addition of a dust outlet in the aluminum casting.

Greetings,

I know this post is old but I was wondering if you were able to find a handle? I had a friend who's dad had one like this that the handle was broken and I designed up the handle in CAD and had one grown on an HP Fusionjet machine, looks like the original. If you are still looking for a handle this might work for you. Let me know.

The OP was last signed in back in July. Hopefully they'll see your offer.

I looked up the patent on their sander, trying to answer their question about when it was made and found this

Thanks for sharing, that is cool to see. I've attached some pics of the sander with the handle I had grown, not the best photos to see the detail though.

I didn't see this till just now, that looks like it would work great for mine. I've been using it with a duct taped ball formed around what's left of the hold handle for years, basically about 3/4 of the one side handle is there and about an inch of the other side, I wrapped them with tape to form a handle.

I don't have a 3d printer though, and don't know anyone that does.

How much did they cost?
