Well 5 years ago me & the wife bought 40ac in northern Wisconsin that borders national forest on 3 sides for hunting etc.
Last year we decided to look into building our own place and started to clear out a spot.
After going through one contractor and then finding another one and making many changes from our original plan we broke ground this spring on the site prep and now we are about a week away from finishing the shell.

We ended up having Walters buildings as our builder. Building size is 36x72' with 17' walls & a 12x24 porch.
We add perma columns last minute from the advice form many on this forum.
The layout is 36x48' shop & 24x36' living quarters with a 14x24' loft.

After lots of rain and the excavator being really behind we after 2 months got our fill brought in.
It was almost 170 yards of screened sand, pit run & gravel to make a level building site but it looked good & we where happy to see some progress.

After the pad was in is when **** hit the fan with the first contractor and we had a huge falling out and they refused to build our building after they had 20k of our money lol. Money was refunded and we then found another builder that was much better to work with and build us our dream cabin/shop. After we changed lots of little things from the first contractor & added a few things and going broke in the process we settled on a price and then started waiting again to have a build date.

While we deer hunted they work on the building all week! It was really nice to meet more of the crew and shake there hands and tell they how happy we are & how great of a job they had been doing!f6c3ede1285f3bb1b5fdcc0a4ee6dd63.jpg

On the last night we were up there they started installing some of the siding on the gable end with a walk door.f24a7909cd550258d610f94ab2c845bd.jpge959bbe9a1835f86ad3b8af3f4bfad94.jpg

They also started framing in and installing the windows in the living quarters before sundown089cdc4452e71dd701bd5ae9b706c7a8.jpg

Very nice! Do you also have to dig (drill) a well and put in a septic system?

I would think that to be a great app for radiant concrete heat since the system is pretty much required to be ON 100% of the time during the winter months. On that note do you have natural gas or planning a propane tank?

Right now we will be using an out house and getting water from my dads cabin 4 miles down the road.
Propane is our only option. Our plan is to have stamped concrete in the living quarters with plumbing roughed in and install the well & holding tank at a later time.
We will also be installing pex in floor heating in both the living quarters & shop portion.

They had most of the wainscoting on when I had to leave this afternoon, they were also finishing up installing the gutters. They still need to install the garage doors we went with tan insulated overheads and then they have to sheet rock and add a door for the divide wall between the shop & cabin.
