Well I was able to sneak up for a day & a half this weekend and got some more pine tongue & groove installed and got some bow hunting in one night also.



Also got new manifolds for the boiler and he finished wiring everything and adding the coolant to the system

Looking good! Are you doing the whole place in T&G? I couldn’t convince my wife to go that route but I would have loved it! My shop will eventually be V groove T&G.

Also, after going up and down my spiral stairs a thousand times already I will reiterate... go at least with a 60” width! [emoji3]

I will be doing the whole thing in pine, ceiling &I walls. I hope we like it when it's all done. For the stairs we are going with a 60" up from the "48 I was thinking

that will age nicely. I did an attic room in pine tongue and groove like that, and in a pretty short time it was darkening to a rich honey color that was nice, plus the smell of the wood is excellent. a very pleasant place to be. I did not do any kind of finish, just left it raw wood.

I will caution that if you go raw wood, you need to love any pictures you hang, because they can't be moved once the wall darkens around them!

Really it darkened that much when left raw huh? I was thinking at first to use minwax polycrylic clear coat as they claim it won't really yellow but then I have a buddy that builds cabinets for a living say he did his uncles loft area and left it raw with no finish and it didn't change color much.... now I'm confused lol.

Its only really noticeable when you move something, but its changed a few shades

(try to ignore that these boards dont sit square!)

Slow & steady. Here are some updated pictures of the progress on the shack.


Was able to have a chimney installed for our wood stove we don't have yet lol.



Ordered some doors for the bedroom & bathroom and got those installed.

Also got my buddy's to help with the vapor barrier
bought a new lg double oven and got that installed.

And last but not least was the meat pole!all ready for Wisconsin rifle season!

Just wanted to check in here after hunting season with some progress.

It’s been slow moving due to the fact it is hunting season and every time I walk in the door up there I just wanna relax lol.



had dish installed at the shack and then mounted a 40” tv in our bedroom.also went ahead and mounted a 50” in the kitchen/dining area.


2 weeks ago Menards had carsiding on sale again so I bought 4 pallets or about 1800sqf and started hauling it up north and working on the ceiling.i was able to get 1/5 of the ceiling done this weekend and I hope to start busting *** on the rest of it this winter and have the whole thing done, all 4 walls & ceiling done in the next few months.

Well I got a chance to sneak up for a 3 day weekend to the shack and banged out what I could of my least favorite part of the tongue & groove.... the ceiling.




Getting close, a weekend or two with the wife and we should have it done.

Very cool build, thanks for taking pictures of everything as it reinforced my ideas behind insulating my own pole barn and it was the first time I had seen perma columns not already in the ground. Those things are rad.

Thanks guys. We are really glad we used the perma columns they made it our forever building for our kids children. The walls are insulated as much as they could fit. Ceiling is r38 but it’s not up to code up here so my plan is to do blown insulation on top of the r38 batts and get it around r60.
