Worked on installing aged bronze switch plates & outlet covers. Also decided to paint the white trim rings for the can lights rather than buy them for $7 each x 30 lol. Ran out of paint for the final coat tho but I did finish 6 of them and installed them but forgot to take pics of it.

I was also able to finish this whole wall where my front door is.

In hindsight I really wish I would have put windows up top because of all the blank wall space. 308634e0f57e291ff93489db6f29034a.jpg
I started working on another wall quick before I left Monday afternoon in the blizzard to head home.6409db59cd9ac2593086cfd2f31eea75.jpg

Few picture updates. Progress has been slow tho.
Worked on some of the walls and also got the rest of the first floor window casings & trim work installed!

Bought a Kreg jig and started to build a top for some night stands with my daughter.

Looking forward to finishing the pine tongue & groove as I’m getting sick of the same project every weekend lol!

Few pictures of the bathroom, kept the wood carsiding theme going lol. Changed it up a bit and did some mini galvanized steel panels for the ceiling.

Bought a draw knife a few weeks ago and I decided to use it on some smaller pines I cut down blocking my view. We hand hewed them and are going to cut them into legs for a night stand I’m building!

Also added some galvanized tin under the loft area to break it up some22c36870f2e500e81dc2992f02b7af13.jpg

Few picture updates on the progress of the shack.

I was able to finish the last of the carsiding the first week of April.IMG_6032.jpgIMG_6035.jpgIMG_6037.jpg
I also trimmed out the attic access door & installed 3 ceiling fans.IMG_5957.jpgIMG_6016.jpg

We also finished the tin ceiling in the bathroom.
IMG_5963.jpg

My latest project is installing flooring in the loft.
We decided on trying to make a rustic pine farmhouse floor from 1x8 pine & cut nails.IMG_6044.jpgIMG_6071.jpg

IMG_6080.jpgIMG_6081.jpg Iv got about another half day of working on it before it’s done. Our plan is to stain it a walnut color to contrast the raw pine.

Next we will start on the railing. I ordered this iron panel from menards last week for the middle and we are either going to do rebar or iron balusters with 6x6 rough sawn cedar postsIMG_6017.jpg

Great progress and really looking good, keep at it. Do you have an estimated move in date?

JB

30 years when I retire lol. This is just a weekend cabin/hunting shack. We really didn’t build it with the thought of living in it full time.

Oh that is right, I'd forgotten about that. It'll be one nice retreat for you and a good place to warm up after a hunt.

Haven’t been doing much lately with the newborn but here is another iron out of the fire. Completed the railing for the loft area & did some stack stone on the loft overhang.

Built the railing all from rough sawn cedar. Now I just need to find the money for the spiral staircase & kitchen cabinets

Love me a barndominum. Nice small, quaint hunting shed you have there.

A question on the hunting stands. Why the tall vertical openings? I’m not a hunter but would think those let more cold in and would allow animals to see movement easier.

Those are for shooting a bow out of. Many of those stands the deer walk past and I could jump down on there back they are so close.

Thanks for explanation. Have you thought of plywood Dutch doors for openings? Guess if the deer come that close, all is good.

There are windows on hinges from the inside196ca29d00a528466efbc78929b963f2.jpgits hard to tell because the polycarbonate is really clear. I have them on the green stand but haven’t made them yet for the brown one!

Haven’t been on in awhile but here are some of the things we have been working on.

We finished our kitchen project

I also was able to purchase a wood stove that’s been our dream to have for 10 plus years.

After a lot of research we bought a blaze king ashford 30 and I got installed it in September.4ace617f858864527ea5d2f37de014ac.jpgshe was a heavy bit@h at 520lbsa55c0e81a3ae5b2e5ae5a0bc08bfd51b.jpg2d4586b6bd0c594f06ee9bebe6a88afa.jpgb25efa39869fbf8793d2ffa29766c13a.jpg

After realizing I’m completely broke and couldn’t afford the spiral staircases we built a temporary ladder to access the loft5730b18e303f555f3803483b6da558e7.jpg
I had my daughter megyn help me had hew some logs for railing also1aac4d89425572858c9412a8e480a55c.jpg

And last but not least me & megyn were able to make it happen one night from our box blind and put a nice shot on this 8pt buck at 15 yardsc83d07860c9df69d653c324732190663.jpgccb8bed4e3612e68cc472bc947673a19.jpg

I like it and I'm considering the same..

Any regrets or wish you would have done something differently?

Built it 40’x80’ added a wrap around porch and made the living space 30x40’

Agreed on the 30x40 living space. Also agreed bigger is more money especially if what you have works. I was just messing around with my proposed layout. It’s 1440 sqft living with 24x24 garage and 24x30 shop.

What do you think about the 17’ walls? I am considering 14’ walls.

I still like the 17’ walls and the height of the ceiling in the cabin area. Over the last few weeks I found out our roof has a leak near the stove pipe and I attempted to get on the roof last weekend and pussed out. For that reason I’d rather have the side walls 12ft lol7da6ae22c393d4bc9f86313f24138001.jpg

Oh another few things are that I spent 2k on gutters and they tore the fu@k off after two winters and the snow load sliding off the main roof onto the porch has dented the steel roofing.

Should have not spent 2k on gutters which was the difference on wrapping around the porch and also have added sheathing under the porch roof.

Spray foam would have been nice also lol.

Now I’m all worked up. Where’s my Jim beam;)

Hindsight is 20/20, on the bright side you have a great place with beautiful views and the hunting doesn't look bad at all.

I feel you on climbing that height. Backside of my shop is 18’, front is 22’. Nervous going up back, scary going up front especially when by yourself. 12’ is looking pretty good now.
