Slab forms bracing

I’m having a hard time driving stakes to brace my forms. Hard, rocky ground. I can’t even drive a wooden stake and was wondering if anyone has any alternate bracing techniques.

Angle steel cut to a point of about 20 degrees on one end. Drill holes to attach form boards. Mass produce them. I had to do this once in hard ground. Wood would just shatter, even oak.

Use rebar and fencing staples to the back of the form.

Or rent steel pins with nail holes that do the same thing.

Or make a L with the form and put gravel on the back of it.

This is what my form guy had me help him do when I built a 4' retaining wall in my back yard. The soil in one area was hard limestone. I had dig down with a demolition hammer to the footing.

Hammer drill and get some concrete pins.

The ones with holes in them ar 5/8ths the smooth ones we use for form work need the 3/4" pins.


If forms are stiff you only need a few pins to support a 4 to 6 inch slab.
