Off topic to some degree, but I use propane for hot water that also heats our home and my garage via radiant heat... Just filled up and got my bill - $2.99 a gallon ! Ouch!

Curious what others pay around the country. I'm in Frederick, Maryland area.

I locked in at $1.899 untill the end of march. Another company had a prebuy at $1.659 for 2000 gallons back in Aug. I didn't have enough spare cash at the time. The company I used for the last 8 years went from $1.999 to $2.599 this year so I started shopping around.

I bought a 1000 gal tank and put a wood stove in the house for this reason.

I usually fill each July and only need to fill once a year. Paid $1.50/gal back in July. They wanted $1.60 but are always willing to deal a bit if you say you'll pay the driver cash or check at time of delivery.

Since I own my tank I can shop around and use anyone I please. One bad experience renting from Amerigas made me realize I never wanted to be locked into any one company. Competition is good for the consumer!

I painted my lid a neutral color and finally had to lock it because two previous companies kept showing up trying to fill me even after I explicitly and repeatedly told them both I am a will-call customer only.

From July to now my tank has dropped 15%. For me any hassles of wood are well worth it, but I can cut for free.

I seen kero selling for 3.00 a gallon and you have to go out pump it yourself ,so I don't mind the High LP prices. 120lb tank for my heater.

$2.39 here.

If it gets up to $3 - I'll tell them to take their gas filled bomb off my property.

Bought a used 500 gallon tank in December so I can utilize the Capitalist system. Paid $1,100 for that, and 2.09 to fill.

In Sept. the 288 gallon tank cost me $3.09 per gallon to fill. I called and raised Cain, (very nicely). They lowered the price A LOT, talked to a manager, who found me a used 500 gallon tank, and he was strait enough to tell me that it is best for the customer to own his own. (That part I had figured out).

Wow... a lot of variations around the country. Time to call up my company and see what I can negotiate. That and shop around for a pre-buy next summer!

Just paid $1.79/ gal. in mid-Indiana. We use several thousand gallons a year on the farm so we do receive a discounted price. Not sure how things will be in the future, our dealer (Tenbrook) was just bought out by another company. Hopefully a bigger company will lead to better pricing.

Just got a propane delivery for our small storage garage. $3.89 gal. We usually go thru about 40-50 gal month. A lot of money just to store syuff in heated area. Oh well, replacing chrome is more expensive. Still hiway robbery if you ask me! In eastern Connecticut.

Ready for this?

I locked into a group buy @ $1.97 in August. We just got a bill for $5.50/ gal. It was a mix up, and they are correcting the billing issue, but damn! If that's the going rate around here right now, I'm surprised people are taking it quietly.

That would be pretty nuts..but might be possible if it's a really crappy propane company AND you have a really small tank fill, and are on a special finance plan / delinquient account or something..

Here we get a 10c/gallon difference if paid in 10 days. Doesn't exactly make a big difference (usually $10-$20), but I've been fortunate to always be able to pay it in time.

And just installed a pellet stove in the basement i finished, didn't think it would heat the entire house (1700 sq. ft ranch) but it has been keeping the basement toasty and the upstairs around 67-69 depending on the outside temp. This is using approximately 1.5 bags of pellets a day, around $3.50/bag from spring buy program. Doing this I rarely hear my furnace kick in unless the stove goes out from running out of pellets. In the past I'm guestimating I used approx 150 gallons propane/month so $216/month at the current price. The pellets would be a little over $100/month so looks like I should be saving some money as long as the cost of pellets doesn't sky rocket.

Yea, luckily for pellet users, they were pretty cheap this season.

I keep telling myself I'll get a pellet stove "next year", but haven't yet.. Almost certainly will next year though if we plan to stay in the current house.

Southwest Ohio, 1.99 gallon for 250 gallons to top off a 500 gallon tank. In September
it was 1.69 a gallon. Been thinking about an LP conversion kit for one of my trucks
since they are already talking about the possibility of 4.00 gas this summer and 5.00
in 2012.

Filled my 120 gal bottle and 500 gal undeground tank, neither of which were empty at $2.08 per gallon today. I get a $0.03/gal discount if I pay within five days so that's $2.05 here in Southeastern PA.
