I'm a homeowner hobbiest that just bought a Hobart 190, and wanted a storage rack for small metal stock. My post frame shop has a 7" wall cavity between the posts, and I've built other shelves to utilize this space without taking up floor space. This rack is 7" wide, and works for metal stock from 18" to 7'6".

Thanks for the comments, here is a picture of a rod rack that uses the same space between the posts.

Great use of space. The only thing I would add to this is something on the ends of the fingers to make sure that the metal doesn't slide off.

I haven't had a problem with it yet, but I guess even a small weld bead would help keep things from sliding off, and would be easy to do.

That's a nice rack you have there :lol_hitti Looks like a really cool barn, More pics?

I don't have many pictures after the build, but here is a link to the build thread http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=116067, and a picture of a storage rack that I built for my kayaks. I'll have to get more pics.

Nice use of space, I would move the electrical box to the other side of the post to avoid the potential of smashing it with a piece of steel.

I like it ..

Thanks.

That is a good thought, but i would need to pull a longer wire to get to the other side of the post. I guess I could weld up a shield around it. Awesome, another welding project.

I like how you keep all your water related toys in one area. Gotta love the old Coleman crawdads! Do much kayak fishing?

I've done a lot of float trips down the Shenandoah River in the Crawdad. I love that boat, but just about have the bottom worn though. The kayaks were a Christmas present for the whole family this year, I'm looking forward to fishing from the kayaks with my son this summer.
