Ten years ago, we completed a whole-house renovation. The wife was in-favor of a bathroom outside of the garage, still a part of the attached 2-car garage. The design placed a central hall from the kitchen to the garage. On one side is a 9 ft x 6 ft full bathroom w/shower. The Rinnai exterior water heater is just outside of the exterior door to the side of the house, so the demand is met immediately when you twist the sink hot handle, or the shower hot handle.
Opposite the bathroom is the laundry/pantry, which holds a lot of food, clothing, dishware, and other things, lots of cabinet space both on the floor and in an 'L' configuration, chest-high. The pantry is 71 in. X 90 in. Both the bathroom and the laundry/pantry are 106 in. high. I like the extra headroom. I'm not needing the extra height, but when we did the layout, that's what we had, using the existing building footprint.
I use the shower to get cleaned-up w/o tracking my dirty clothes through the house. I drop off the dirty clothes into a hamper. across the hall, or sometimes I'll just put them into a wash cycle immediately. When needed I have a 'really dirty clothes' hamper which pleases my wife, so her clothes don't get washed with my work clothes.
I keep thinking about what to hang on the walls, I have pictures of famous GP drivers of the 1960's, when I was going to Watkins Glen that I think would be good to display, also my race tickets to Watkins Glen, Sebring, the Montreal GP, Monaco, and the Indy Car race in Detroit. I also have a picture of a Ford GT racing, the same one you see in the movie
Ford vs Ferrari. The picture was taken at Sebring, but not by me. Anyway, I have lots of other auto/motorcycle pictures I could hang-up too.
We have the full bathroom laid-out so you can enter the bathroom from the hall leading to the house, or from the hall to the attached garage, or from outside the house, on a path to the pool. It's convenient, it serves the pool usage, and my trips from the garage to get cleaned-up.
From the hall into the bathroom:
A linen closet to the right.
Above, the exterior door opens onto the path to the pool.
Above, standing at the exterior door, facing the door to the hall, and beyond that across the hall is the laundry/pantry.
The sink and toilet:
Last, the shower, which has an overhead 'rain forest' showerhead and the wall mount hand-held showerhead:
I like the 'rainforest' wide showerhead after getting cleaned-up, it's very soothing. You can also see it in the mirror of the 3rd picture.
I also have a playing field and the scoring 'tombstone' glass from an old pinball machine which I always thought would be a good addition to the walls, but that has to get approval from SWMBO.
I'm in-favor of the idea of a near-by shower in the event of exposure to some caustic chemical. Also, there was the reminder about fire extinguishers, have two 5 lb. ABC where you can reach them in a hurry, 10 lb ABC is better, as you're likely going to extinguish an incipient fire with that much protection.
