Hoist for garage attic.

Yes, this is not a quick little project but I bet you can get it done in a Saturday (as long as you shop ahead of time). Anyway, it's so nice to get snow blowers, presssure washers, mowers, etc. off the garage floor when not in use. It ultimately keeps the garage clutter free.


Mine cost me nothing out of pocket at the time. I had a HF winch laying around ($79 if you go buy one) same with the bearings and steel for the track (maybe $20). I also had some 2x8, 2x4 and 2x3 cutoffs that I framed the door and opening with ($15). I got the idea here but can't remember from who to give them the credit.

Looks like I am adding a few more things to my HF wish list then.

Being Fully Insulated and Drywalled...75K Heater...Great lighting...lots of Pegboard...Cable run and a TV on a swivel...Coffee Maker...Old Coke machine w Beer/water...staircase leading to insulated loft upstairs...lots of cabinets...a HD workbench that takes up an entire wall...my car stereo mounted in a 1957 chevy dash on the wall...infinity speakers...Air Compressor upstairs...Hose reel...Air plumbed all around Garage...lots of outlets...old Steel "Tanker" Desk with HP Computer...Racing Seat on a swivel stand and rollers for a Computer chair...a good 3 speed squirrel cage fan for venting...a cieling fan...Poker table/chairs upstairs...Outdoor Bar/stools upstairs...a window air unit upstairs...a coded keypad by the main garage door...Being Detached and at the end of my property...all I need is a urinal and sink and I am all set. (plus finish all my projects in the garage)
I love my Garage...not the cleanest...not the biggest...not the coolest...and not finished, but I love it!

It's 1 foot inside the door and goes the full length of the garage. Floor is slightly sloped from the rear to the drain.

Awesome. A must have here in the winter. A heated garage causes all the snow buggers to fall off and melt.

As mentioned, lighting, power outlets, and storage - you can never have too much of any of them. The more comfortable and ergonomic your space is, the more you will enjoy your time there. I built an attic/mezzanine in one end with a flat wall on the front for displaying treasures, and an opening in the middle. that way I can't stack things behind others and lose them. I also put a light up there, very handy. The other one is a small but solid mobile steel work table, probably the most used item in my garage.

Putting in a 40 buck skylight. Having a 8 foot roll up door in the back so there is very easy access to the back yard and placing an attic exhaust fan in the upper back gable.

Glaidator Gear track and a TON of hooks.

I just installed about 12' of gear track. Wow! This thing ate up all of of rakes, shovels, brooms, etc. and it took less than an hour to install. Definitely much more organized now.

Stereo's do make it more enjoyable to work out in the garage...I'm looking forward to getting mine fired up one of these days.

^^^^^^ Went to a "Bringing Back the 80's" concert a few weeks back. They had an early 80's Chevette on display. Man, I forgot just what a piece of junk them things were..... all came back real quick though.

The greatest things I have added to my garage are:
The toilet in it's own room
Kitchen Sink with water heater
Pull Down stairs to the attic
Epoxy Floor
Sony kitchen radio w/ CD player (mounts under staoage cabinet)

I had a Chevette but mine didn't have an engine in it. I had to Fred Flintstone it!!!!

My wife's best friend had one of those junkpiles. When I got behind the wheel, it took me a while to figure out why it did not "feel right". The steering wheel was not centered with the driver's seat, it was off to the left by about five inches. I was glad that I was not driving it for long and even happier, that the car was not mine.

My Wife (girlfriend at the time) had an '83 Chevette. If you had to put a quarter in the machine to air up the tires, the car was totaled.

60k BTU kerosene turbo heater in an insulated garage. It stinks and so do I after I've been out there for hours, but it can be 5 degrees outside and I'll be in jeans and a t-shirt wrenching away inside.
For those of us who have to deal with winter, extending your wrenching season is huge.

Got my pipe run to my garage with 6/3 in it.Next step,connecting it all up.
Electricity without using an extension cord! Wooo hooo!
Next,the mini fridge.
All my tools organized.
Good lighting.
Outlets.
On and on...

I built this tire rack from stock black iron pipe pieces. It gets my Winter tires up out of the way but they are still easily accessible.
