Well I already bought one, but I wish I would've known about those. I actually prefer plastic when loading into a car regularly. The metal ones get scratched up and the corners tend to damage/scratch upholstery and whatever else they are near.
My days of junkyarding and roadside repairs are over for the time being so I'm less concerned about it now. Those look like they have good latches though. The portable boxes with lids weak link is when they're loaded down heavy all the weight is on the latches. Where do you find those?
I have the Toughsystem for carpentry tools. I dont have any of the drawer boxes however, just conventional deep tool boxes.. Ive played with the drawer boxes in store and they have nice slides and lock closed real well. Ill say the conventional boxes are very tough, I can stand on them like a step stool but I probably wouldnt stand on the drawer style, but they should be OK. I think there was a revision a couple years ago on the drawer style because there were issues with them jaming when the drawers were overloaded, but I think they got that fixed now.. . Theyre waterproof and can stay in the open box of my truck through rain and driving and still be dry inside. Theyre built like Pelican cases if youre familiar, even a bit heavier construction than Pelican. Latches are almost too strong they really snap closed.
I got mine through the local lumber yard, but they are available anywhere that sells Dewalt, just google Toughsystem. I have a couple of the Milwaukee boxes too. Theyre nice, but the Dewalt is tougher IMHO. Both above are Dewalt products, one called Tstak, one called Toughsystem. The Toughsystem is larger and heavier duty. Id compare the Tstak to something like a Festool Systainer or Sortimo; lighter duty.
Theres a new Toughsystem2. Im not sure if theyre compatable with original TS. Need to confirm that.
