Herb: it's a WHITE CHRISTMAS here today cause it snowed last night. it doesn't happen often, but it sure makes it feel like Christmas when it does. I'm only posting this picture on your thread so you can maybe enjoy a little White in your Christmas today too. our 3 little grandkids played in the snow last night until their parents took them home around 11pm. they had a blast and weren't even close to dressed warm enough.

hope you feel better and falling is never a good thing when we get older.

cheers

Thanks and sounds like your grandkids had a great time. I am hoping your 2018 is fantastic for you and family.
I enjoyed our Christmas this weekend (30-31st) due to family coming from out of town. Thanks for all the 2017 friendship and looking forward to hearing from you often in 2018.

Best Regards
Herb

HERB: we've got plenty of SATURDAYS (313) as Andy (OldIronFarmer) calls them and a few Sundays (52) of them to give us time to do plenty of things in 2018. if you haven't seen Andy's thread here's a link and he manages to do something daily to post and he's 68 and not slowing down a bit. i bet you'll like his sense of humor that always seems to have me guessing too while he's posting up some new method to do a project or just talking about life.

https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=334140

so hopefully you'll think of a few that don't include Raccoons or other maintenance issues at your pristine home.

i'm trying to scale down my storage and maybe try to just keep the tools I use and a few collections cause the last few years my buying of COOL TOOLS has maybe got a little over the top with all the cool stuff i see.

in your case it sounds like maybe a new bike or two and maybe a new truck or how about a bigger shed or shop so you have even more room to move around and make nice stuff?

we're not getting older we're getting smarter and we have more time so enjoy what time we have left to the fullest.

hope you are injury free going into the year and looking forward to sharing more stories and thoughts with you.

cheers

Happy New Year and thanks so much. I have visited Andy's thread and I get a lot out of it. I will believe when I see if you scale down!! I know we all need to do that especially when we run out of room. I am not one to be without "supplies" or "new tools" but your ship can only hold just so much cargo can't it?
Thanks and I will be looking foward to talking with you thoughout 2018 as usual.
Not golf weather here tonight!! We are expecting a low of 1~ F which is warm compared to a lot of the USA.

Best Regards

Yes that is great news you starting your garage thread. I suggest a "little upfront history" of your space, although many of us already know that. Begin with what projects you want to do in your space, and how you plan to set up for those, IE: woodworking, metal working, Space ship building, whatever.
Naturally we want to see all your shop preps, and everyone of your personal tools. (We like history on the tools where you got them, either purchased, traded, or stolen.)
I will be plugging your thread every day, and will be one frequent obnoxious visitor daily.
Actually, thanks for starting a thread in the gallery and I will be enjoying it a lot!!

Best Regards

HS: i'm in ORGANIZING MODE and new thread soon to give you another reason to post more often.

that said i bought 2 of these cool hand carry tool pouches that you liked and i've yet to ORGANIZE them so I know i asked you this before, but thought it was a good reason to see if you are doing ok and bump up your thread.

any changes to yours and since i own two of them and maybe mostly use for DIY, handyman, electrical, plumbing and no cars would you maybe have some advice to share?

I did manage to put in a tape and the real problem with me is putting it back after i use it hence me owning about 30 of them.

thanks again for all your help

Thanks for checking in here and looking me up. As shown earlier in my thread, I had set up my tote for carpenter work, and have since been very happy with it. I made a few changes but not major. My goal was to lighten the tote by having just enough to do what I needed to do. I have also since then set up a tote for screws, nails, and other various fasteners. It keeps things handy and I don't spend time looking for tools.
I may set up a smaller tote for electrical, and then would need something for parts like boxes, wire, receps and switches. I already have a big electrical bag, but it is too heavy to carry around.

My tape measure seems to like it's holder so I trained myself to always put it back when I am done with it. Not that I don't lose them now and then.

Thanks for stopping by and I am Anxiously awaiting your garage thread!!

Best Regards
Herb

HS: i still haven't started filling up my tote, but I know it will be handy once i do.

as you know i started my GETTING ORGANIZED THREAD and even though it's not as fun and going out and picking up cool stuff it sure will be nice once i do GET ORGANIZED so i can actually find something.

hope you are doing well and have you been checking out the motorcycles or just thinking of maybe road trips and cool hotels for your next trips.

my bride and I just spent 4 days on the OREGON COAST and we had a pretty cool room to watch the big waves in and I also managed to get this double rainbow picture from my chair inside our unit.

have you been to the COAST?

cheers

Yes I have seen the coast as you show, but my trips there were mostly just changing planes or killing time to return home. It is very beautiful country and I do like it a lot.

Sorry for not responding sooner, as we have been out of town visiting family in Kansas City.

I countine to be amazed at the amount of work your doing on your home and the new shop thread!!

I really appreciate your dropping in and I wish you every success for 2018. I am ready for the SPRING and some tillering and planting! I have so much to do I have forgotten what it is. Seriously, the cold weather needs to go away, and let's have some outside time.

HS: thanks for the KUDOS on my ORGANIZING THREAD, but actually there's been a lot more thinking than doing and i hope to change that. it sure would be nice if it was warmer again and quit raining/drizzling.

speaking of Midwest our daughter and new son in law moved to Missouri so my bride and i are maybe talking a road trip this summer, but not sure when yet. probably have to watch the weather and make sure we don't hit TORNADO SEASON.

hope you had a good time in Kansas City.

I know your shop and home and grounds are probably where you want it, but do you have any plans or projects coming up you'd like to share?

cheers

Sorry again for the late response to your post. Things have been busy with lots of stuff including TAX TIME.
I am thinking of painting the inside of my back shop, and doing remodeling, but every time I scope it out, I see all the MOVING OF STUFF to accomplish it and with spring coming I need to be more out doors than in. Still, I can't DROP the idea as I want it done!

Thanks for stopping by

Somehow have missed this thread, you have a really nice place going for you Herb. When going through this thread, it is actually something from the very beginning that stuck with me, when you said something in the lines of, that it is small, but you are very appreciative of what you have. I think it's true, that when one looks up at all the garages here, we sometimes should just stop and appreciate our current situation.

Regarding the riding, just wanted to pitch in about the course. I try to take a course every spring, which in Finland we call the "ruosteenpoisto", which translates to Rust removal :) I think it's a good way to get the basics back together, especially here where we have half a year of break during winter... Also, I would say that major part of biking is the scenery and the company. Just getting one that feels ok and easy to handle, and you will enjoy your trips. You can always then swap the bike later on when you find out more requirements during the trips.

On the tool tote side, I have one which I specifically purchased for one purpose alone: keeping it always empty. It's surprisingly hard to do some times... Having it empty below my tools, allows me to take in 30 seconds all the tools I need for a job. Usually I would need the cordless drill, some screws, tape measure, level, etc. and it's a hastle to carry them. Just to be able to take the drill and a selection of screws anywhere has helped me when working outside for example.

Wishing you a warm spring so you can start working outside.

Herb, that's one huge undertaking.

I have looked at my garage and momentarily think of doing just that then instantaneously put it in the toooo hard basket..

If you are ever out this way??????

HS: while i agree paint does really spiff up a place if it was me i'd plan on painting if and when you might want to change the current design of your shop such as bench placement or other items. otherwise i might tend to agree that leaving it be and working on other projects should take a priority cause your shop is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than most and looks great now.

or if you really want to paint it for your MENTAL WELL BEING then at least wait until the weather is great so you can maybe tarp your stuff and store it outside for a few days while you are painting.

i hope it's starting to warm up for you cause it went into DEEP FREEZE MODE here this week.

cheers

HS: you don't have to build a truck or garage to make a few posts of your cool shop or just tell us how you're doing so post away as you have time either here or on our threads that you seem to enjoy.

hope all is well in your world and how is the Wilton getting along with all the Craftsman tools?

cheers and have a great 4th

BTW I picked up something yesterday i've been looking for that you might want to put on your radar for your shop. it's a Craftsman 5191 (or maybe it's a 5195 and forgot to look) that is 4 inch jaws and it came out of a wood shop and had nice jaw protectors so it's going in my woodshop today.

Thanks for looking in on me. Everything is great here and we have been super busy with travels, fishing, huge grand daughter wedding, and home upkeep. We are now looking for a cabin in July for some more fishing.
I am doing great and we are REALLY enjoying our time. A few old timer aches and pains but we all have those. Nothing to worry about. I did learn not to dig up 40 feet of drainage line by myself though. Ben Gay to the rescue on that matter.

Thanks again for all your looking me up and I am here, fine, sassy and doing what I like.

Best to you all
Herb

Well---I supose I am as about as far behind the power curve as possible here. Thanks to those above who keep me on their minds, and I am still kicking around. Wife and I have traveled far and wide this summer. Thinking she is 71 and I am 73, guess we better hit the roads now, and focus on staying home later. Personally, I like the serenity of my garage (as does she working on her projects). We have been darting in and out to keep up the maintenance of the house, but have been on the go the last couple of months, ending up (I hope) with being in Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee the last ten days. So home it is now with the exception of our "fall" fly fishing trips up though October. So that's where I have been.
I have not in any sense given up on Garage Journal, as I renewed my membership to the Alliance and got the keen looking new medalion for my tool box. I have been doing that since 2014, and I am proud to support the GJ.
Thanks again to all those who remembered me, and yes I am going to be redoing the Small Two Car Operation in new style and colors beginning soon. It is time for a remodel!!

Best Regards
Herb

Glad to hear all is well Herb and you and your wife have been having fun traveling.

Like you, I enjoy the serenity of my home and shop and when my wife and I aren't traveling in our coach I absolutely love being home and in the shop. Hell I've even learned to relax a little bit lately and have been enjoying sitting on my deck and enjoying the view of our back yard and mountain view. Sunday morning sitting on the deck with a cup of coffee seemed almost the perfect start to the day. I look forward when I can do that every day and not have to go to work during the week.

Looking forward to more of your projects Herb, so I hope you have some lined out.
