Like the new cabinet by the door. I have a small space like that, may do the same.

Hi WarrenJ

I am trying to use all the space I can, yet have plenty of room for the car.
At least that corner looks a lot neater than it did. Thanks for stopping in.

Best Regards
Herb

How long can you use them before they wear out? I seen things similar but never tried them.

Hey Gerard

I went to the large True Value hardware store here today, and looked at the sanding pads for the 4 1/2 in angle grinder. The amount of accessories for these tools is mind boggling. I bought the ScotchBrite sanding pads in 80 and 120 grit, and a cup brush and two flapper wheels. I also bought a set of Recip saw blades in various sizes. I wanted some carbide edged blades to cut angle iron with, so I walked out of there lighter in my pocketbook!!
For these items I racked up around $70.00.

The price of hardware is skyrocketing. It is cheaper to buy nuts and bolts by the box if you can find them these days.

Best Regards
Herb

Hey Herb, just stopped by to say "G'day", because I haven't commented for a while.

Great work on the furniture & the new cabinet.

Mark

Good to see you again.

I thought the little cabinet worked out well, although open cabinets can be dust magnets, especially near a door. I did not want to put a cabinet door on as it sits sort of behind the door rail. I could have done it, but we will see how things go.

Thanks again for the visit!!

Best Regards
Herb

My son in law brought me a bunch of one inch oak stair tread cutoffs from one of his jobs. These came out of some guys half a million dollar house. I will make plant stands and cutting boards from them to give as gifts.
The Dixon mower now lives in the woodshop but can be backed out quickly if I need the room. The small table saw under the workbench seen in photo#3 and #4 moves into that space and is on casters. I can use the chop saw and table saw if working inside on a rainy day.
The shed continues to work well for me.

Best Regards
Herb Spencer

I love those old stoves. Got a couple I need to do... That one looks great Herb! I like the gold accents.

CoopVA

Thanks, the little stove was a fun project. This one belonged to my great grandparents and burned coal. They used it to heat part of their home, so this has sentimental value to us.

Herb, having a small shop, it seems every square foot is precious. I'm impressed you managed to fit more storage in beside the garage door :)

Dennis

Thanks for stopping in. I try and use as much of my garage as possible and still keep some "walking around" space. I am enjoying your home improvement work on your thread!

Thanks again

Herb,

I've taken the better part of the day (even at work ;P) reading through this thread and I have to tell you, it's truly inspiring. I'm just starting my woodworking shop from scratch and have lost count the number of your images I saves as reference.

I know how much you like to work outside. I'm going to build a stand like this one in my shop, and I bet you could easily wheel it out under the tree to hold several of your tools. This guy has his drill press and grinder stored underneath and swaps the tools out as he needs them.

I like your idea of working outside, and would use this if I could. I'm in a townhouse complex, however, and the HOA probably wouldn't appreciate sawdust all over the drive :D I will likely need to come up with some sort of cover/shroud to keep the dust down. What tools do you feel kick up the most sawdust?

Thanks again for sharing all of your success with us so we can learn

Hi Herb, I'm only about 14 pages into your thread so far. Love your setup it has lots of charm (if that's not too much of a girlie term to use on GJ)

Did we all notice the quality eye protection in those old photos in post 223 ? That made me laugh.

Lots more to read, cheers Grumblebum.

Thanks so much for your visit!! I am very pleased you found something in my thread of interest. I hope you will visit often, as I will as you work out your shop and set up.
I think one of the worst offenders on saw dust and chips is the Router or Router Table. Another maybe worse is the Jointer. Since I have a shed woodshop and work outside, I use those tools there only and not in my garage.

I still have the Fine Homebuilding magazine article on the shop you referenced. That guy set up a great shop in a small space. I looked at it often.

Thanks again for the visit.
Best Regards
Herb

Herb, I finished reading your thread last night. An enjoyable read :) Lots of interesting flea market finds and great restoration. I've been thinking about doing some tool box restores as a hobby later on but now I'm going to be on the lookout for anything of interest much sooner I suspect.

Cheers Grumblebum.

I am really pleased you enjoyed the thread. I do love doing the restores of especially items from pre-1960/70. I also like doing vintage furniture from the 1920s and 30s. Tool boxes are a big favorite as well. Thanks for your visits and hope to see you often here. I will also visit your place quite often as you post your projects.

Best Regards
Herb

Herb,
I've finely finished reading over your thread and I'm really impressed with all of the small things you added to your space. I like the restorations probably the most as I've done a fair bit of that myself, but nothing compared to what you have done. I'll be tagging along for the future updates. Enjoy your week in the cabin.

Nothing posted in a couple of weeks because I have been stuck in Kansas City where wife's mom was in the North Kansas City Hospice. She passed away Sep 15th. I am hoping to get back to work in my shop and get back on the journal as soon as things have settled down.

You know Herb that you have a bunch of brothers here on the GJ pulling for you during these trying times. Life is to be celebrated as you reflect back, and the pain of missing someone will surely pass into good memories as time goes by
our prayers are with you.
